The clones might have the range and the pitch, some can even sustain the notes, but they are all missing "something". Maybe because they are trying TOO hard to sound like someone they are not.
It is amazing to go from a clone sample right to Perry. Even on the Alien Project demo, he had it all. The man was born to sing.
On that note, I still think Jeff was perfect for Journey. I wouldn't want another clone. Jeff sang the songs with emotion. He sang like Jeff, not Steve. I respect that.

While I'm not sure about right now, 10 years ago Jason Kelty had all of the things you mentioned.

Are there any other recordings of him floating around?

Not yet. Someone mentioned in another thread they had a lead on some boots. Anyone remember who that was? I'm too lazy to look

I think it was G.I. Jim. Not sure, tho.

Actually, I think could rival Perry power, emotion and pitch. Jeff did bring something to the table that I liked that Perry never had. Masculinity. Not a jab at Espee, but rather a solid truth. The scary thing about Soto, and especially after knowing him a little bit, he got better and better. He was still improving with this band, molding himself into that Journey sound, and my two cents says he would have gotten to a point where it would have been really good.
You all think that masculinity scared Jon Boy?

From a female standpoint, I have to agree - JSS brought so much testosterone to that band it wasn't even funny. I love SP, I like SA...nothing against them. But the sheer power of Jeff's stage presence was something I didn't see with either Steve.
Rockindeano wrote:Hmm... Perry was pretty frickin good. He owned the stage. I saw that guy 20 times and every time he was awesome. Augeri on the other hand looked like the kid who peed his jeans on the field trip and was hiding behind the other kids when the zoo keeper was describing the goose and chickens. Soto did command the stage. His 6'3" frame sure helped that and also his confidence was very present. Confidence comes out when you know you can do the job. Perry and jeff had that. I think it was clear Augeri didn't have any at the bitter end of his run.
