But for me the beautific Christ-like pose was the most annoying aspect of his 'stagecraft' because it suggested a rather arrogant sense of ownership of the material being played - and a sense of entitlement for the credit he was mistakenly receiving - and this made every cell in my body jingle with irritation. Very few fans ever commented on the Jesus thing - but one perceptive reviewer made a scathing remark about it last year and rightly so.

Whereas JSS came across like a proper bloke who was honoured to be on the same stage as the true legends in the band....

I'm not sure what you're talking about in regards to the "Jesus thing". Please give an example. I've never thought that Augeri came across as anything other than humble whenever I've seen him perform or do an interview, interact with fans, etc.

Dave - when I saw him in concert he kept doing this arms-outstretched, head-back, eyes-closed routine with the quasi-spiritual smile on his face. I'll try to find the article where the reviewer noticed this too....but please spare me the challenge of combing through endless live footage of the guy.

As for the humble thing...well, his WOF remarks about Perry having 'just as much if not more' right to be there reveals the truth about that myth.

This is the first I've ever heard about a Christ-like pose out of Augeri... I still don't even know what the wiggle was unless it's the move that TNC more accurately dubbed "That Fruity Shuffle" Augeri did long before wiggle became part of the loon lexicon.

I guess anytime a guy stretches both arms outward as Augeri and JSS both did from time to time, it could be construed as a Christ-like pose.

Here's the article. Now you've heard it twice:

"Frontman Steve Augeri, who will forever be compared to the incomparable Steve Perry, spent most of his stage time front and center, mugging for the crowd in a Jesus Christ pose, like he was expecting to be showered with adoration for all of the music he had nothing to do with."

Jealousy. Pure and simple. Critics are losers who will never get to stand on a stage and experience the love of a crowd. Fuck him.

Yea, from you and now this article both this morning.

Dude, you know me, I'd admit if this was a refquent, nagging criticism of Augeri, but clearly this dude was in the minority as far as being put off by it.

As loons will happily point that I am in the minority of ranking Generations as my favorite record.

Oh I'm not so sure about that, NIG. Had Perry been up there soaking it all up I bet that guy wouldn't have had a problem....

Wait, Matt.
Augeri makes the gesture and it's an irreverant wannabe Christ-like gesture of pomposity but if perry did it the reviewer would be correct to acknowledge perry's right to assume the Diety like pose?

That's true Larry - but it's more than just the outstretched arms somehow. Augeri never did it in that 'here I am, fuck you all' kind of a way....

LOL, I rest my case.

Your ilk points to JSS doing the same thing Matt thinks Steve Augeri had no right to do and it's the coolest thing ever.

If Augeri so much as twitched a muscle, did anything more than stand there welded to one spot and sing it was either gay, a slap in perry's face or both.

There's no doubt that Augeri's narcissism and mock-humility would be easier to stomach had he written the songs. And yes Perry would have had the 'right' to assume that pose...

I don't feel there is anything wrong with any singer posing that particular way, as long as the singer is actually singing!

And Matthew thanks for bringing that article here, I enjoyed reading it again! Especially the end of the article about the "sword" and the "white horse", and getting "Sir Perry to lead the charge". That was great! :D

JSS doesn't give off this utterly phoney 'passive and happy martyr' vibe though. He's much more in the 'here I am, fuck you all' school of Christ posing.... :)

OK, so you don't see outright overt cockiness in Augeri, but "mock-humility."
Plenty of people, present company included, found it to be sincere not mock. BTW, it also doesn;t get any more pompously elitist (something which I realize you admittedly revel in) than saying one singer had every right to do it and another none.

But Red...I am openly a pompous elitist...it's there for all the see. I don't make out I'm the nicest and most humblelest man in the whole world. THIS is why Augeri gives me the creeps. And I've often wondered why he did. He's got that televangelist look about him...you know...those smiles that don't match the eyes....

Anyway...we know that he stared 'humbly and sincerely' at his fans whilst conning them in concert. So why the big surprise with my remarks here?

I was at that concert. Steve had a rough time. Thats when they pulled the tapes. They should never have even started that tour.Steve was looking forward to a break momths before. It was Neals choice to take the money and tour with singer that couldnt sing.As far as "christ like pose" thats bullshit, everybody has there style. The Wiggle didnt do anything for me either, but it didnt bother me, the guiy could sing till 2005 some good nights, some bad At least he was out there enteraining Journey fans. Perry didnt want to sing for Journey but didnt mind collecting the checks as if he was still singing for the band.

For all we know St Stephen Of Punxatawney was behind the tapes.
He could've told them his bulk cat food bills were getting out hand and to go out, let him continue his mafia like no-show job so that the greenbacks kept rolling in.

Huge JSS fan are you? What do you know about his back catalogue? Love his work on the Rockstar Sdtk?

Bought both releases of World Play did you?

We talk about Augeri being bogus, I GUARANTEE none of the loons who shat upon Journey from 1998-2006 before the school girl crushes set in know Jack Dick Shit about JSS' music pre Journey.

You'll all say you will, so rebuttals are pointless.
