Learning To See

Postby Liam » Wed Aug 29, 2007 12:41 pm

I'm revisiting the BOBW cd, and I've come to the conclusion that this is the best "new" song that they did. Lot of people might not agree with me...but it's a very well constructed song. MUCH better than Up For Breakfast (Unfortunately, on the '04 tour...I got that instead of LTS), and while It's About Time is a relatively good song...LTS is the one I've gotta pick as the best. Good solo, nice heavy riff, great vocals by Sammy, just an all around great song. Just wish the harmonies weren't buried in the mix so much. Anyway....your thoughts...?

And NO I didn't bring this up to start a DLR/SH debate. I'm just talking about the song....let's try to keep it that way.

I think Learning To See is the best song out of the 3 new shitty songs they put on that CD. The song is OK by VH standards and is irrelavent and long forgotten. If it was on a good VH CD from the Hagar era I doubt it would have ever been a single or got any airplay on radio.

Definitely the best of the 3 on that CD. I'm not sure if it would have gotten airplay if it was on an earlier album, like FUCK.
It's a bit too heavy for radio.

It would have been a deeper album cut, like Feelin' on Balance.

I'd say it compares pretty favorably to the two new Dave songs on BOV1.

Which isn't really saying much, as those are about the weakest DLR songs VH ever did.

I liked 'It's about time'.....and just on the last posters comments, i think 'Me Wise Magic' was a great track!

BOTH MWM and CGTSNM were stunning to me. It was having Dave back but darker, heavier, moodier lost a lot of the sort of goofy party feel of the prior Dave era, and I LIKED it.

Learning To See probly IS the best of the new 04 tunes all around. Though musically I prefer Up For Breakfast the lyrics damn near wreck it. Learning To See had it all.

Me Wise Magic was the best on BOV1. I couldn't get into CGTSNM. MWM had that intro that I just LOVED. The tone EVH had on the clean guitar.....fanfuckingtastic. :-)

Yep, MWM is a flat out monster. The Edward tone had a TON of menace to it,then his ending goes-on-forever note bend... Dave absolutely DEMANDING: "TELL ME YOU BELEEHHEEEVE!! DO YOU BELEEHEEEVE?!?!?!" total goosebumbs.

The intro was great. I love the end too,one of the best fade outs from a VH song, classic! I wonder how long he played after the fade out,I wish I could hear it all.

I agree, I'd like to hear Me Wise Magic on this tour, although I'm not holding my breath.
