Good point. Most of Jeff's cover songs are amazing and better than the originals. 8)

As for Ryche doing a cover album.. UGH! :?

That's the only cover album I own PERIOD... :D

The only other one I can think of that I own is Styx's "Big Bang Theory". There are a couple of good tunes but it's pretty horrible overall.

It's a Rush thing for me. I have every album they've ever released including the compilations.
I know... I'm pathetic... :)

I have all the studio and live stuff but not all the compilations.

I'm rather OCD when it comes to Rush. I also have all of Neil's books as well as several that have been written about the band and their history.

I hate cover albums!!!!!!!!! For the most part, I will not buy, listen or have anything to do with them. I would make one exception in the case of Glenn Hughes, (if he ever did one) and I've thought about getting Toto's, but only because they are amazing musicians. Other than that, I don't even listen to online previews of any of these bands pathetic cover albums. Coverdale once said on his website, "what's the point of these albums when you can have the original?"

It was good reading, for the most part, but I got tired of his incessant comments about those "fat Americans".

Really!! I didn't even notice that! I'm going to have to go back & read it again with a new mind set. Try his first one. It's about his bicycle trip in Africa. Pretty cool.

From Def Leppard to Tesla to Poison to Queensryche to a pile of other imaginationally challenged fuckwad bands....I'm SICK OF IT.

No one wants to hear Joe Elliott's take on shitty David Bowie or T-Rex or yet another album with Your mamma dont dance by poison.......

I'm putting every one of you rock bands on notice (and I know you fucking read this board!!!) If you can't get back to writing and recording your OWN material.....FUCKING RETIRE!!!

I gotta agree. Cover albums are driving me nuts...
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Some covers are OK. You should hear Johnny Contardo do In the Still of the night. I would like to hear Perry do that song like he did Stand by Me on the ROR tour.

True, I never really noticed Crazy (Seal) or Frozen (Madonna) that much, back when they were popular. But I think Jeff's versions are better than the originals, an extra edge added. Crazy is ten-fold better than the original IMO, whether it's SoulSirkus, Talisman or JSSB performing it.

I wouldn't mind hearing Tesla's cover cd though. Is it any good?

There have been cover "songs" since about forever. I'm ok with that. But, why all the sudden cover "albums"? Enough already.

There ARE some good cover songs out there, but if I wait years for my favorite band to release an album, and it's covers, that blows...

In general I agree. But I have to admit, I am really diggin' the new Tesla ones. Killer version of Rock Bottom and a nice rendition of Thank You on there. Alot of tunes that haven't really been covered elsewhere.

But I do get where you're coming from.

Can't stand the covers of Faithfully (I don't care if Cain wrote it, he shouldn't sing it!). Perry MADE that song, end of story.

On the other hand, if Perry were to release a album of covers of his favorite songs, that's another story. I'd be all over that.

As for the bands mentioned above, I agree that so many bands doing covers is pretty lame. Spend that time coming up with at least 2 or 3 GREAT new songs that will get people's attention.

I'm with you. Generally, covers...blech. However, if Steve Perry ever sang an album full of Sam Cooke covers, I could die a happy woman!

Yeah, one or two on an album are cool (like on VH's Diver Down), but no more than that.

Yeah, but Diver Down had some originals....in fact, Little Guitars is a GREAT fucking song...so it's not totally covers...

And the point I'm trying to make is that the cover album issue is a recent explosion...

Hell, when I posted the original post I had completely forgotten about Styx and Rush. Rush, I always forget about....just a character issue I have with cannuck bands other than Triumph...and Styx is almost excusable...hell, they fired their only good songwriter after BNW....with the quality of song that was on Cyclocrappa and the gazillion fucking live albums they released, It makes sense that the only chance they had to record music in the studio was with someone else's shit...

Regardless, I'm just sick of the covers explosion....Hell, I also forgot to include the pig from Seattle and her recent cover announcement.

I like Rush's version of "Heart Full Of Soul" more than the Yardbirds original.

"Seven and Seven is" is another one that sounds better.
