Call a spade a spade...
What you're (and Roth, when he said it at the new conference) are trying to do, is validate the severing of Mikey from this group....by calling it a new thing. It's either a reunion or it's not a reunion. by trying to put a spin on it as a 'new thing' is laughable...because all it is is a nostalgia thing....they're desperate to NOT call it a nostalgia tour, but that's exactly what it will be.
In fact, during that same news conference, Roth made it clear that the 25 songs they worked out were NOT going to include the new songs from 1996...because they had to fulfill the "responsibility" (laughable in itself) of playing the old stuff.
Contradictions...between Roth and the rothheads, there's tons of them....
If you're waiting a validation from me w/rgds to Anthony's firing, I already posted in a different thread why I did not stand for the bros back then and I don't stand for Anthony now. The bros, right or wrong (IMO wrong) , decided that if Anthony went along with Hagar he couldn't get back to the band. He did and he took his responsabilities. Now the situation is not what we all expected (a full-fledged Mighty Van Halen reunion), and if I standed completely on the Roth side I could not have parted for Anthony anyway due to his friend Hagar.
Is this a reunion? Roth reunited with the bros. Anthony not. But, Do you really believe Anthony tried to get back with the bros this time? They call it a new band, arguably with a smart move.
Is this a nostalgia tour? Absolutely. Just like it was back in 2004. A nostalgia tour, and not a good one. But I didn't hear any Hagar fan complaining back then.
Regarding the new songs: too bad they aren't going to play them. I loved Can't Get this stuff no more ,even more than Me Wise Magic....
Cheers
