I believe I was one of the first to comment about Journey being an "American" band, and I didn't want a non-dominantly-English-speaker singer leading it. I still don't. If anyone thinks I'm racist because of that, so be it.
No Donna. I am too lazy to go get the exact wording, but you did say you didn't want Arnel singing in Journey because he was "Not an American citizen."
That still boggles my mind.
And Journey is the shitiest of the shit... I think I read that someplace before!!!
All this talk about racism is just stupid. Is this man being targeted for assasination because he's filipino? Hell no, there are just people who don't think he's right for the All-American band that is Journey.
Yes, there is intolerance. I will not tolerate the band that I once loved (and still want to love) making choices that IMO are totally ridiculous. It just so happens that this guy is a foreigner (hey, do they need a new lead singer, that would actually work...?) and that is what people are jumping on. If he had a physical anomaly folks would talk about that. How many 'intolerant' references have there been to SP's nose, or the fact that JSS is 'too tall'.
There are too many people that want to use the 'race card' simply to have something to say. It does as much to harm relations as those that are making the supposed 'racial' comments.

And, they are correct...but only as long as nostalgia lasts. When the nostalgic fans get bored living in the 80's, Journey will have nothing left.

If Journey gets a singer that can make the songs "sound" like they do on the albums, they'll always sell tickets.
Turn on the radio. For us fans, very little of today's music can compete with what we know and love.

After several decades of living in the 80's, I don't think anyone around here's going anywhere.

I heard that new Springsteen song on the radio today..."Radio Nowhere". He said it!

We on these forums are irrelevant now...if we even did matter.
The people Journey wish to tempt are the %99 of the other fans who go to concerts and do NOT follow these forums. They are the people who hear Journey is going to be performing and, "I used to like them back when I was a kid...it would be kinda neat to see them..." Or, they think, "I hear them on the radio once in a while...it would be kinda neat to see them, even though I wasn't born when they recorded this music."
Those are the people they are courting....not us. The, "Journey should do ______ because us hard core fans supported them for thirty years and we know what is best..." Or the, "If Journey doesn't do ______ I am and done as a fan and I have supported them for 30yrs." This crowd no longer matters cuz it is such a small percentage of the big picture.
Ten years ago, it was different, because they wanted some longevity...Nowadays, they are just going for the quick buck while they still can.

Which is why it is so bitterly disappointing they did not embrace the possibilities of forging any new ground with JSS as frontman.

Perhaps Journey could open for Frontiers...

It's funny though we can rip Paris Hilton to pieces and absolutely pull poor old Augeri in all directions but no one ever takes real offense at that, mention someone from another culture and!!!!!!!!...... it's the way of the world I guess.
Every person in the limelight is open to jabs and so may it continue, in an inappropriate way that is
For all you newbies and first time viewers.....read a few past threads before you jump to conclusions about the Journey board, we're a good bunch of inappropriates,.
So Arnel's in then, I'll be damned

Rockindeano wrote:Andrew, I would immediately write a rebuttal, explaining the fact you allow opinion, and the expressed opinion on this board does NOT express the viewpoint of the Board owner. Then, go on and explain that Journey themselves are utilizing and manipulating this Board for their own personal gain, and that you have no problem with it. You need to write something asap. Hell, let me do it.
