Front Page: Frankie Sullivan Producing (Not Survivor)

Postby Red13JoePa » Thu Aug 30, 2007 12:08 am

So we find out what Frankie's been doing between gigs.

Great, but to me honestly this did nothing but set the Survivor album which was already set to be released around the same time the goverment releases the classified Kennedy assassination files, back even further.

They probably haven't recorded jack dick shit.

Red what's the problem here? It sounds like the Mecca project is nearly done. It is a testament to Frankie's talents that he has been asked to produce. I love anything with a Survivor influnce. Mecca had an awesome debut and I can't wait to hear Frankies stamp on Mecca 2. I like you can't wait for a new Survivor disc and I truly believe it's going to happen. Hang in there Red.

Trying to.

That's why me and EyeOf both bought oxygen tanks to sleep in.

So that sometime in the 2040s we can guy buy the new McSurvivor and find out who capped JFK all on the same day.

Red my friend it's going to happen. I've heard such from a couple of sources. I for one am thrilled Frankie is produciing Mecca's album. Did you hear the first Mecca disc that JP was heavially involved in? Andrew will tell you that it is a friggin masterpiece. I'm excited Frankie is active. Listern Mick Jones did producing during the 80's and that did stop Foriegner from putting out great stuff. I'm just trying to stay positive my friend. Who is Penn State playing this weekend?

I don't care either way what Frankie does outside of Survivor.

Penn State's playing Florida International, but then I think you knew or you wouldn't have asked.

Hey Red I think it's important members of Survivor have their name out there. Mecca is high profile. It will be an anticipated release and I'm thrilled Frankie has his name on it. I did not know who Penn State had this weekend. They'll bury cream puff u. I'm in for a long Saturday my WSU Cougs are at Wisconsin!

It seems to me that Survivor is in disarray right now.

So much for capitalizing on the DWTS momentum...

Disarray? Explain? People who know the band better than I don't tell me that. If you know something please share.

Don't "know" anything...only basing it on the appearance that the band is struggling to gain traction.
European Tour cancelled/never official, working on an album, adding MSG tracks to the setlist, not working on an album (by the looks of it). Whether or not DWTS was a good thing was debated hard, but what I see is that it was BAD TIMING for that exposure. Survivor has not been able to capitalize on it. Maybe if they a song to release that could have been "something". It would have been better with an album...and/or a full tour. A wasted opportunity....

IMO

I disagree. I think it's great that Frankie is so respected that he is involved in Mecca's new project. They clearly have more dates than in years past. I agree I wish they might have released a song or something. I just saw them in concert and met with the before the concert. Everyone I spoke with was happy and energized. Time will tell but I don't think disarray is something I would call it. What about organized chaos! LOL

the deal with Frankie on Mecca 2

Postby crazy mar tay » Thu Sep 06, 2007 4:22 am

Guys its simple. I know JV well we are close buds. In addition I have been with Joe since the start of this 2nd album and I have been through it all with him the trials and the tunes and I feel compelled to respond as you guys seem confused or in the dark.

The deal with Frankie Sullivan producing Mecca 2

1. Frankie is a mother fucker of a guitar player and great songwriter in this genre`

2. He is greatly respected in the biz and by Joey Vana. Vana is a big Survivor fan and used to be tight with JP and the guys in the group 20-25 yrs ago

3. Joe Wanted to get back in touch with Frankie after listening to my copy of Reach which I bought. He loved the sounds, production, the way the entire album came out ( sound wise not songs thats different alltogether) and sounded. JV said it sounded like it took them a year to do it and spent a million bucks on it ! Not shat out like others in this business do so often. Many of whom have there asses licked and touted to be the 2nd coming when they are far from it.

4. JV after getting together with Frankie n hangin out a bunch of times asked him for his opinion on what he had so far as JV wanted some feedback. Frankie seemed to like it alot and said he'd produce a track or 2 and play on it if needed.

5. After a few times in the studio with Frankie at the controls, Joe deceided why do a song or 2 fuck that, do it all ! lol. So, He asked Frankie n sully said yes so he's producing the album (with Joe's input of course) with Frankie n Bry (engineer and owner of w.g. studios) engineering the thing. The results so far are fantastic!! I liked what I heard before and Frankie's direction and ideas are IMO right on the money and this is truely a better album I can say with Frankie involved and running things.
Joey is a perfectionist and he needs someone like Frankie to guide him and be able to say " this is a great song...you killed on it its done move on!!" JV can't do that too well so that is one of the many things Frankie is doing for Joe In addition to understanding what Joe wants to do with the songs and the melodies. They are working BETTER than Joe or anyone probably ever expected. Things are great and the album never sounded this good and that is not just my opinion but JV's as well. Bry also likes what Frankie has brought to the table as well.. Bry is the COOLEST kat and has great ideas and knowledge of what he does so this is a match made in heaven.

6. Like all great producers, Frankie gets not only the best vocals out of a singer but he understands how the ENTIRE band /group is to sound AND play!! He has an idea how everything is supposed to work and how to get there best performances take after take. This guy along with Nevison and Fillepeti got those albums to sound like they did so just remember that as well.

[b]On SURVIVOR
: There is NO agenda or anything covert going on. Survivor is a band but, its FRANKIES! He is the boss and if he doesn't want to go overseas or do a bunch of shows it has nothing to do with Mecca or Joe Vana. it was Frank's decision to not do it for his reasons.

They are fine as far as I have know or heard. They have done a ton of shows and keep in mind the main guys are all OVER 50!! So do not expect 100 gigs or anything like that. Not all there gigs are posted though many are. they do private and other shows and appearances like many other groups do as well.

I wish Frankie was a bit more open 2 but he's not. When he has something to say you'll hear it unfiltered. He is a very smart guy, he knows himself, his abilities and what he wants and doesn't want to do with his career.

they are doing more shows now with this band than they had done in the 6 previous with Jamison and his bass player. I know they are workin on a new setlist and who knows maybe doing some writing for a new album. there will be more shows live from the guys.

Mecca 1 was a very good rock/pop album with some world class players and a great new singer. the production sucked on much of it. it was also poorly engineered for what it should have sounded like. That is NO LONGER a problem. Bryan and Frankie are working great together and this album SO blows away the first.

They played it safe on Mecca. I like that album also alot. but, this record will bitch slap 1 as its so much MORE than just a Same ole shit follow up like some other guys in this genre` do ad nauseum.

Samples and a new website are coming ... and I hope you all like what Pat,Wally, David, Valkir, Christian, Frankie Sullivan and Joey and the rest of the musicians have in store for you!!

I still just think he should he be producing a Survivor album.

Of course he can dabble in whatever he wants, but my preference is for him to be making music w/ Survivor and if he's doing other things like producing other bands' albums, not only doesn't it interest me from a survivor fan perspective but it keeps him from making survivor music.

You can feel how you want. I wouldn't try to tell you what to think or do. I am just telling you Mecca II /Joe Vana isn't stopping Frankie from doing new Survivor recordings..They are doing the Mecca album when they have time. Everyone else has other jobs /careers or projects to do. They work on it pretty much every week but its not 8 hrs a day 7 days a week. Frankie is doing other stuff as well but is he workin on a new Survivor album with Robin? I do not know.

It just speaks volumes to his lack of ability or desire to focus on Survivor.

So am I to understand that Frankie is playing some guitar on the Mecca album as well? I hope so!!!

I don't have a problem with Frank producing someone elses album If it doesn't interfere with Survivor's plans. but Survivor should be his main focus at this time. It's important to get a new album out in the very near future now that Robin is in the band, and to make this one a Rocker unlike the ballad-heavy Reach album!

Frankie playing gee-tar on Mecca II

Postby crazy mar tay » Thu Sep 06, 2007 8:01 am

there is a strong possibility Frank will play on a cut or 2 ..how much and what song?? I do not know yet thats up to Joe and Frank but I think its a good bet you'll find his handywork on something on 2. He's one of Joey's favorite M.R. guitarists so It's a good bet.

Hello everyone!

I just stopped by Marty's house and he showed me this board. I have been on the notice board many times and posted but not this particular part of the mr.com site. I think this is a good way for us fans to voice our opinions on our favorite bands and there current progress.

I thought I would respond to some of the things that Marty just read to me from the above posts.

1. As far as a new Survivor Album all I can say is this, Frankie Sullivan is not the type of guy to "shit out" new material. He is a very soft spoken, and private guy. He is what I would call a deep thinker. He is not the type of guy to go scanning the internet reading up on himself or Survivor, However, I do believe that he DEEPLY cares what the fans want & what the fans desire of Survivor. I see Frankie as a perfectionist and someone who wouldn't just put an album out to have product out. Enough guys are doing this already. When I see an artist who puts out an album every year, I do not see an artist! Frankie puts out art....not a product!!

2. REACH: I for one very much liked ALOT of the Reach album....but, I will say I LOVED ALL of the production.

3. I am as big a Survivor fan as ANYONE on this board or website. If I thought for one second that Frankie producing Mecca II with me would stand in the way of Survivor I would personally escort him back to his vehicle ( no pun intended) and send him back to Survivorland. hahahaha

4. As far as what alot of people have said about the lack of information from the Survivor camp I will say this: I give out too much information sometimes and I think it's best to ONLY comment on things when they are set in stone and completed. I completely respect Frankie's way of handling Survivor and the information that comes out from that.
Remember this, anyone can do an album, but, to truly create a piece of art it takes enormous commitment, time, patience, emotional strength and the ability to seperate your own mediocrity from brilliance. You have to know what is great and what is average. Then, you can combine all the brilliance and you will have a wonderful album. And that whole process takes time and Frankie as a MASTER producer knows how to harness this! Survivor fans deserve no less than this and thats why I believe it takes as much time as it does. Frankie spending the time he does working on new material and waiting until it is just right proves that NOONE cares more than he does about making sure that you get the best Survivor album possible. In other words, CUT THE GUY SOME SLACK!

5. This is Survivor newsboard so, I don't know if its proper for me to talk about Mecca II....all I will say for now is working with Frankie Sullivan has been an absolute pleasure.

Thanks again.......

Joe thanks for stopping by! I am thrilled Frankie is working with you. I'm a huge fan of Mecca 1. I used to email you when the album first came out but lost touch. Having had the pleasure of getting about a half hour with Frankie for an interview about 5 years ago I found him to be thoughtful, insightful, and extemely private. I was impressed. I come from covering sports where everyone beats their chests. That's not Frankie. Frankie never once talked about how great he is etc. I wish people on this board would cut him some slack just like you say. I found Frankie a very private person as a well and wow isn't that refreshing! Good luck Joe! I can't wait for the new record.

That release date was BEFORE he got involved in projects outside Survivor.

It's been pushed back.

Am i the only voice of reason and sanity here. No one promised a new album. I have quoted that press release on the board before. Secondly Mecca 2 is nearly complete according to Joe Vana so what's the deal folks?

They did say WELL over a year ago that were to be heading into the McStudio soon to McRecord and McHoped a new McAlbum would be out in Mc2007. Of course that's not a promise but not only does your comment that no one promised a new album contradict those statements, it also contradicts your previous repeated statements of excitement for the new mcalbum.

I'm not Frankie sycophantic enough to be dazzled and amazed that he is producing something other than what he said he'd be working on 14 months ago, for another band and just chalk it up to "Oh well. This is GREAT ANYWAY. He's producing now!"
