OT: Where's the media on this one?

Postby conversationpc » Thu Sep 06, 2007 11:49 am

While the media and libs clamour to cast stones at Republicans ala the Larry Craig scandal, this particular story is basically being ignored even though it's far more harmful to the country...

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., has abruptly walked away from her responsibilities with the Senate Military Construction Appropriations Subcommittee after a report linked her votes to the financial well-being of her husband's companies, which received billions of dollars worth of military construction contracts she approved.

Dave I say that in EVERY single political thread that comes around. Nobody listens and you'll never convince either parties faithful that that is the case. They'll just twist it around and make it - a. the other parties fault or b. Some kind of witch hunt.

It's a useless fight but good read none the less thanks.

Democrats and Republicans alike all have their share of scandals. The only difference is that the media grabs onto the Republican scandals and won't let go.

Yes BOTH parties!!!! But the Repubs, in my life, seem to banish individuals. Craig should be gone, no matter what that idiot thinks. It is his party and his electorate that has to act and I hope immediately. Now the Clintons !!! I saw the illegal Chinese funding and the fleeing of Charlie Tree and another in the beginning of Bill's 1st administration. They bend the rules. Trust me ,if a Repub lets another country influence their election, it would be all over the news. These 2 parties know what each other are doing !!!!! The Clintons tested the waters and Hsu fled the country. THEY GOT CAUGHT !!! These politicians are smarter than all of us, but they catch each other. Most are lawyers !

Yeah, it's so unfair

You republicans are a whiny bunch. Stop the corruption. If Fienstein did this, she too can go to Hell, but the GOP is just so much more corrupt it's not even funny.

You're so wrong, it's not even funny. When the libs were in charge of Congress back in the 80s and early 90s, corruption was the norm, just as it was during the Republican's turn and will be again while the libs are in control again.

One thing you can always count on about the human condition is that all different kinds of people are still susceptible to the same tempations. Libs are no different.

By the way, I'm not a registered Republican.

Democrats are the whiny bunch. Republicans have money, education and they work. Democrats cater to those who DON'T work, promote suing people, and perpetuate welfare. If ANYONE is whiny...it's the motherfuckers on welfare that complain how unfair this country is.

Isn't that the truth! well said, the Democrats want more and more govt. programs to feed off of while the people who believe in business pay!
I love how the Dems. scream right wing and try and lump all Reps. with the religious fanatics to make them look so "fair and balanced." If you are a Dem. you are giving your power away, you aren't getting more.

Well said?

St John doesn't know dick about politics and paints with an extremely broad brush.

All I know, which might not be much, is the republicans are going to lose many more seats in Congress and the White House next year. Goddammit that feels good saying that.

All republicans can suck my cock.

I hate the GOP. Fucking HATE those bastards.

Democrats are 34% more likely to hold college degrees than Republicans. Excluding those whose earnings are in the top 5 percent (i.e. CEO's), there is a direct, irrefutable statistical connection between the highly educated (much more likely to be Democrats) versus those who are not. However, I do agree with you that more often than not, illegal immigrants and welfare recipients do propogate that unfortunate undercurrent. A lot of people like to blame their shortcomings on something or someone else, because it means they don't have to take responsibility for them.

That number probably isn't even close to being correct. Consider the following statement from the law professor at Northwestern University and director of the Demography of Diversity Project, Jim Lindgren:

Yet Republicans in the general public tend to be better educated than Democrats. In the 1994-2002 General Social Surveys (GSS), Republicans have over 6/10ths of a year more education on average than Democrats. Republicans also have a higher final mean educational degree. Further, Republicans scored better than Democrats on two word tests in the GSS--a short vocabulary test and a modified analogies test.

If one breaks down the data by party affiliation and political orientation, the most highly educated group is conservative Republicans, who also score highest on the vocabulary and analogical reasoning tests. Liberal Democrats score only insignificantly lower than conservative Republicans. The least educated subgroups are moderate and conservative Democrats, who also score at the bottom (or very near the bottom) on vocabulary and analogy tests.

The irony here is that if there were substantial numbers of Republican political scientists, psychologists, and sociologists at Duke and other elite schools, Professor Brandon might already know that in the United States, the two most similar groups in educational attainment and verbal proficiency are liberal Democrats and conservative Republicans--and that ordinary, non-liberal Democrats are among the least educated political groups.

http://www.instapundit.com/archives/014093.php

It looks more like the least educated are those who can't make up their mind whether they are liberal or conservative, on both sides of the fence.

Coplete bullshit. A non-partisan study group made a study on over 2,000,000 news programs, print media stories, and books. "In distinct contrast to the conclusions reached by Ann Coulter, Bernard Goldberg, Sean Hannity, and Bill O’Reilly, (this exhaustive study) finds the media to be, on the whole, far more conservative than liberal, though it is possible to find evidence for both views. The fact that conservatives howl so much louder and more effectively than liberals is one significant reason that big media is always on its guard for “liberal” bias but gives conservative bias a free pass."

How else to explain Clinton getting impeached for lying about getting a blowjob and 43 NOT getting impeached for his bullshit war, surveillance programs, and lying to the world about 9/11 and Iraq right before the invasion.

Enough already, guys. I respect all of you, but you need to try to be objective from time to time.

Are you honestly saying here that Eric Alterman is non partisan? Eric Alterman is about as far to the left as one can get.

Barb, no offense, but you missed the point. The study itself was conducted by a...READ THIS...NON-PARTISAN GROUP...THE A.M.R...not Alterman himself. He merely cited that research. I've heard it cited on a number of occasions. Fact is fact. Deal with it.

Being objective would be to admit that the vast majority of major media outlets do traditionally lean left. The vast majority of those in the media identify with the left. That doesn't mean that they purposely write biased news stories, columns, reviews, etc. Besides that, I don't particularly care if a particular outlet is liberal, conservative, or middle of the road, as long as they don't claim to be unbiased.

While we're at it...
  1. Fox News leans conservative. If you're conservative and don't want to admit it, it's because you're living in a dream world where you pretend they are unbiased, like Sean Hannity.
  2. NBC, CBS, CNN, etc., all lean liberal, as well as most newspapers.
  3. Most talk radio is conservative because people just don't want to listen to that liberal crap.

If that were the case, then why do you see more republican scandles on the news than democratic ones. And one other thing, clinton wasn't impeached for getting a blowjob, he was impeached for lying about it under oath, aka perjury. One question too, how did bush lie about 9/11.

Let's see...he KNOWINGLY lied about Iraq's "possession" of WMD, its involvement with 9/11 (ZERO!), and its nuclear capability. That's just a LITTLE more of a violation of national security than fudging about oral sex under oath.

I'll find the book where this study is detailed and footnoted. You'll hear from me soon, and it'll blow your mind.

Let's see...the media helped get Clinton impeached because of its reporting on his shenanigans...yet what about "Mr. Family Values", Newton Gingrich? The "man" showed up at his wife's hospital bed, following a serious operation for cancer, with a yellow notepad of divorce stipulations outlined...which he promtly read aloud to her in front of his child...a divorce that was set into motion by "The Family Man's" sordid sexual affair with a married college professor. Which did you hear more about?

Yeah, the media is liberally slanted. Whatever. That's why Coulter, Fox "News", HANNITY and colmes, Limbaugh, and all those other hatemongers have their own shows. Name one liberally slanted radio or TV news program. And don't say NPR, because that assertion has already been incontrovertibly refuted.
