Raised On Radio track theme

Postby StoneCold » Thu Sep 06, 2007 3:10 am

Thanks to "JH'sTXfan" mentioning it, I found Springsteen's new single "Radio Nowhere". Good rockin' tune about how hard it is to find some good rock, rhythm and soul on the sound box these days.

At least one, maybe two Elvis references are in it.

1. "Mystery Train" (an old Elvis tune).
2. Misty Rain could be referencing "Kentucky Rain" (?).

It made me think about Journey's track Raised on Radio and how many great songs they mentioned.

It's been 20 years since ROR and this line no longer applies "The hits keep rockin' station to station."

The new technology is nice to have but I miss the days of just turning on a radio and hearing some great songs.

Today, the closest thing I can find to having that "radio" experience is Pandora Radio online.

http://www.pandora.com/

Do any of you still have any good regular broadcast radio in your area? Do you think broadcast radio will ever go back to being enjoyable again?

Oh, if you haven't heard "Radio Nowhere", it was a free download on Itunes this past week and this UK News site has a free link as well.

Yep, my favorite part of it is:

"So I bought a .44 magnum it was solid steel cast
And in the blessed name of Elvis well I just let it blast"

Journey on the radio.

Postby StoneCold » Thu Sep 06, 2007 3:58 am

It's rare to hear Journey on the radio anymore.

Sometimes I'll hear Faithfully on that lady's dedication show ((Delilah?, which I can't stand by the way).

So you're wondering how I hear it if I can't stand the show? Hopping presets, that's how.

AWYWI and WITS sometimes on the Classic Rock.

DSB once in a long while but that's it.

Never hear Rainbow anymore, not even on Classic Rock.

Gawd radio sucks now.

I wonder if Springsteen's track will get any airplay and what type of station will play it?

Pandora is AWESOME

Journey is way more popular on the radio than 10-15 years ago. WHOLE new ballgame with this 80's euphoria.

Lots of Journey around here, but it's San Francisco. I hear Lights, DSB, Feeling that Way/Anytime...at least once a day. Lots of classic rock stations around here.[/list]

Never heard of it but I'll check it out.

As for broadcast radio, there should be a station with a format of play an older song, then play a newer song. It's good to find new good stuff too.

On the previous post.

Journey ALL THE TIME? I'd go crazy after a day with that. We had a station do ALL GARTH BROOKS ALL THE TIME for a week straight. Nuts.

My local radio station usually throws some Journey in once every three hours, but that's been stepped up a bit since the Sopranos deal, and now one can hear most of their big hits and FTW/AT, SIL, and even MOL.

I listen to Pandora also. If they occasionally throw something stupid like Rick Springfield on there, I'll just hit the "thumbs down" and it goes away.

I'll try harder in the future Gordo. I believe Andrew likes the new toned down Dean. Again, maybe he wants me to unleash the fury, and come in here and announce my presence with authority? Andrew?

You need to get back to the old ways. SJ does too. Otherwise the triumvirate of evil (your words) is just gonna fall apart.

You're expressing an opinion on Rick as a singer not his heritage.

Drew will back you on that. Actually through Pandora, I've caught a couple tunes I like. "State of the Heart" isn't bad.

But since we're discussing Aussie's, Icehouse was a good band.

I just looked RS up and found out he was Australian. Nothing to do with that, I just don't like his style of music.

A lot of his stuff sounds like they took "Jessie's Girl" and reworked it to try to get another hit. The State of the Heart song reminds me of something John Waite would do.

Toto

Springfield, yeah. SOME Toto, but:

Hold The Line - ROCKS
99 - Doesn't rock but good jazzy tune.
I'll supply the love - good funky tune.
Without your love - good mellow tune.
Rosanna - good creative sounds on that one.

Toto to me is another version of Chicago. Some good tunes, a lot of throwaways but the good stuff is listenable.

I had to come back an edit this a bit. I can't stand most of Chicago's 80's stuff, hit or no hits. Stuff that sounds like Starship's "Sara".

Toto's better than that.

The early Chicago stuff wasn't bad though.
