The music world longs for new Steve Perry music!

Postby Dkramer » Fri Sep 07, 2007 9:18 am

I have grown up listening to Steve Perry and Journey. From the time I was 15, I wore out every Journey record I've ever owned. For me, their music holds a special place and I cannot go very long without "fix".

I have attended Journey concerts where Steve Perry fronted the band and later with Steve Augeri singing, and while i commend Augeri's efforts, there is only one Steve Perry!

Lately, I have really developed an appreciation for Perry's FTLOSM record. His Sam Cooke influences really come through on both that record and the Raised on Radio record.

While I would love to be able to see the old Journey lineup reunite and tour again, it seems highly unlikely.
(Hell, my teenage kids would like to see it too!)

But if it is not to be, I hope that Steve will someday be inspired enough to go into the studio and make one more record which might include some of his own new music and maybe a couple of old mowtown inspired covers like Sam Cooke's "Cupid".

Youtube has a FTLOSM tour video of Perry doing "I'll be alright without you/ Cupid" which will knock your socks off.

If you're out there Steve, we need more!

***Sorry about the typo folks. No Heinican, just in a bit of a hurry. I'll remember to hit the prewiew button next time!

Don't run away now, Dkramer...a lot of us having been wishing for new music from SP for a long time. I just don't think it will ever happen at this point - it has been a very loooong time since he did any new solo stuff. The most we can hope for is more background singing with other artists (if you aren't aware, he did some recently with Guff).
I agree that is a KILLER bit of Cupid on youtube...one of my fave pieces because there is something so sweet sounding in his voice. I only wish he had done some Sam Cooke (and more) because he always puts his own spin on it & it sounds incredible. Welcome! :)

Agreed Dkramer, it's been a long time, and his voice is phenominal. I personally think it'll happen (solo release), unfortunately, it's not in my time frame or control. In the meantime, check out his background vocals with David Pack and Guff.

Hey Kramer, a grammatical in your first post! Right on man, plead the Heineken!

Anyway, thanks for the link to SP doin' Cooke.

My bet Perry's got tons of stuff stashed. If you had a voice like that, tell me you're not gonna record as much as you can.

Anyway, if you're logged in, there's an edit button at the top of your post where you can correct "ground up" to "grown up".

Lot of us getting ground up by Journey right now!

Singers mostly.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

I know that most everyone is angry with the band at present but this girl still wants to hear and see them together again for one last show with a great DVD. Pull out all the stops.

Yeah, it would be nice, but hasn't SP already said "no way"?

Maybe he really enjoys being behind the scenes in his golden years? Eh?

Hey, I'm fully aware that Perry said NO, and totally respect his right to live his life the way he pleases. I fully understand THIS is not Perry's dream, I'm speaking in terms of MY OWN dreams of what I WISH could happen just ONE more time. I don't feel there is anything wrong with me or others expressing that here.

Of course it doesn't hurt to dream, but maybe all the dreaming going on has pushed him away.

If your kids asked you a thousand times for a pony and you kept saying no, wouldn't you eventually tune them out?

Well first of all, Perry has said he doesn't come on ANY of the message boards, so therefore I'm NOT ASKING Perry for anything, NOR am I expecting him to fulfill MY Dreams for me. What he chooses to do with his life is his right! Again I'm a huge fan of his and totally respect that! :D

Secondly I think that this board has had LOTS of anger expressed towards other band members, I think at this point a few fans expressing some "positive remarks" should be more welcoming, than what has been here lately. Just my thoughts here.
