Its heartbreaking for Journey fans.

You know for a lot of people at least in Europe we finally got the chance to see Journey and embrace Steve Augeri as the new singer, belive me being such a Perry fan that took a while.
For me it was at the Greek Theatre show that i attended and many dates in the UK that followed, then tape-gate hit and like many we was shocked and dismayed at the band.Still Jeff came in and all looked and sounded hopefull for this great band and we stood behind them only for it all to go pieces again.
Now they have all but decided to become a greatest hits show with no future only a past to hold onto as they look for a new Steve Perry to guide the good ship Journey along. My feeling is that the future is bleak and the shows will be badly attended until the band finally just dies.
No matter what your opinions of the band are now and i know there is some serious hate from the Augeri loving bored housewives herd ,Journey fans in general are heartbroken,be it for not having Perry or Augeri in the band or the awful tape-gate saga and finally losing the ray of hope Jeff.
Never have i been so dismayed with the past and future of a band, we can only hold onto the memories of better times and the timeless music of this ONCE great band.....Journey R.I.P.

I'm just gonna concentrate on Rush now. At LEAST I know they'll go out with dignity and grace and not lie to loyal fans.

The dream situation is a farewell tour with Perry that ends the bands time on a good note, cannot see this happening though i am sure money has been offered to all parties to do this at some point?

That's the problem (well, one of them anyway)...

They aren't looking for 'a new Steve Perry', as in someone that can totally WOW the audience with vocal skills and stage presentation. What they are doing is looking for someone NOT Steve Perry who can sing just like him, to continue to rest on yesterday's laurels. As much as we love the Perry-era music, we were looking forward to what JSS could bring to the table. Apparently greed and ego got in the way of that.

Then there is talk that they are considering Jeremey Hunsicker for the job. While Jeremey has been known as a 'tribute band singer' because of his band "Frontiers", he is also an incredibly talented guy who has a broad knowledge of Journey music and could sing songs OTHER THAN the dirty dozen, which would keep Journey loyal to their roots and still sound like the '65 million units sold'. So, they could continue to do the 'same ole same ole' if they wanted to, but still shake things up a little bit (kinda like JSS was doing with songs like Rubicon, etc).

Now they've been considering another guy, he who shall remain nameless, and although he has a great voice and can sing the dirty dozen, many people feel he isn't a good fit for Journey, for a variety of reasons.

The lunacy of it all is mind-boggling. It's as if when presented with two options, they say "which one will cause us more ridicule/hate/grief/insert word here" and then choose that option. They've made one HUGE mistake after another, and expect the fans to just go along with it. It is a consumer-driven business, and they are losing their consumers FAST.

I guess they will probably just hook on to some other 80's era band to allow them to continue to tour. They did that with DL and it was a success. Why??? 3 words: Jeff...Scott...Soto. I have to wonder though with comments made by the likes of people such as Brian May if there will be some bands out there (those WITH integrity) that may not want to be associated with them. I can't say I would blame them.

Bottom line... today's Journey SUCKS!!!!

I could not agree more with you they seem to hit self destruct buttons all to often. They dont sell records unless its greatest hits etc,so all their income is from shows meet and greets. Augeri did good work with the fans and on stage until they let him take the bullet for lipping and he was gone. The thing is they need to keep all the fans they can and they have upset so many.
Now i am a massive Journey fan but you know what i just dont think i care that much anymore, there best days are long behind them. What worries me how far will they go to wiping any cred the name Journey has. I wish someone would take the name away from them

They don't even do that. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but I do believe that the records that have been remastered/repackaged have been due to the work of STEVE PERRY, who is no longer officially in the band. It's quite ironic if you stop and think about it. The one person who is most concerned about the band's legacy is the one that got kicked outta the band. Go figure.

He's the one that's done that's done the least, if anything, to discredit Journey but yet he's the one that is considered fair game for bashing and berating. Go figure indeed. Image

Stop acting like he doesn't deserve some of it. HE was the reason there wasn't a new album from 86-96.

An album or two in those 10 years could have kept them in the limelight as it has Bon Jovi and Aerosmith.

I agree with both of you. They should be called something else now like Almost Journey or Journey s Gone. What pisses me off the most is that I ve took my daughter who is now 16 to 18 concerts since she was about 12.She was just as much of a diehard fan as me.They let her down .Fuck with me that is one thing, disappoint my daughter is whole different matter.Thats what pissed me off the most. She was clearly upset, and there wasnt a fucking thing i could say or do to help. Least she has enough morals to know its is not okay to lie and cheat people, and treat others as you would want to be treated.Thats two things Neal and Friga never learned growing up,Ill restate that. They never did grow up. Them fuckers

I didn't say he was innocent of all wrong doing. I said he'd done nothing to discredit Journey. Not singing with them wasn't discrediting them. Having someone else try to sing the songs and make people think nothing would be different without Perry was what ended up discrediting them. Neal and Jon were stupid enough then to think that they could plug in another singer and everything would be the same. What's possibly the most pathetic thing is that they haven't learned a damned thing as a result of that failure.

Well then again maybe they have. It seems that they've resigned themselves to playing the same tractor pull circuit they had sunken to with Augeri. The Def Leppard tour gave them a chance to move up a bit. But wait, they would have blown that too without JSS.

So where's Jeff and who's the real fuckup in Journey? It can't be Perry, he's been gone for years.
