Micheal Sweet and Boston - More than a feeling

Don't know what the fuss is about. Sweet was ok on those clips but he sure could not hit those Delp-only highs and didn't even really try.

Shouda had Glenn Hughes, he would smoke those songs with the respect they deserve, and he's the ONLY Christian rocker I can accommodate in any way, shape or form. He's been to hell and back.

I don't usually feel a need to defend, but wanted to fill in a few facts. Michael was asked to do this at the last minute. You are trying to sing songs that one of the greatest voices in rock sang, there were very few rehearsals and technical problems beyond their control, Michael was driving back and fourth everyday from home to rehearsal through crazy traffic for this-during a time that his wife was just recovering from cancer. Plus during a time that his family and band have been going through personal trouble.
Considering this was last minute, very few rehearsals and Michael gave it all he had personally, while going through a lot personally..I think he did pretty good.
Michael too has been through his own hell over the years.
The fact that Michael even did this under the conditions he did under the personal things going on in his life-kudos to how it came out..along with technical trouble during the Boston set.
Peace.

There is an article from Tom that I need to find where he speaks about Michael and all of this. If Tom gives kudos, that's good enough for me.

Here for now are a couple of quoates from Tom on Michael-

"His guitar playing and singing had been so good in rehearsal just the day before that both Gary and I spontaneously stopped to tell Michael that these songs had never sounded so good live as they did now with him playing. Unfortunately, no one other than us has gotten to hear that, yet."

"Like for instance Michael Sweet out of the blue offering to interrupt two recording projects to fill in for Brad at what had to be an impossibly busy time for him. He drove back and forth through Cape Cod traffic to rehearse with us for days. His filling in for Brad really saved us, he was literally a God send."

"Michael's guitar rig was out for the first half of the set, and he had to deal with tech's fiddling with the pedal board at this feet while he tried to get to his mic to sing the opening songs. With incredible cool he got through his songs in spite of it all, finally chucking the guitar all together for "More Than a Feeling."

Keep in mind too that the .mov clip was according to Tom "This is from the first time that Michael Sweet rehearsed with Tom, Gary, Kimberley and Jeff together. FYI, this was an informal stereo recording, and the mix levels and quality are not up to professional standards. "

He did the tribute show as his wife was recovering from serious cancer.

he's awesome. those are the 2 reasons that I DO love him!

God bless his wife. read about her progress and testimony of healing at Stryper's myspace page in the blog
www.myspace.com/stryper

thanks for those links!

Thanks for that link - I didn't know she'd had cancer. P.S. The pic of Michael and Kyle with the "kids" is a little too much for me. I am feeling my age now!!!! ;)

I really did not want to turn this into a religious thing, and even though I am a Christian, I don't care for a lot of the religious type shows on tv, but it seems a few of you may be interested in this.

This was taken from www.michaelsweet.com.
On Thursday, September 20th, Michael and his his wife Kyle will be appearing on TBN's "Praise The Lord" to discuss everything they've been through since Kyle was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. In addition, Michael will be performing two songs from his new album "Touched" which is being released later this year!
(Details, MP3 Samples & Photos to be released the evening of September 20th)

Praise The Lord is on TBN network and is on 7 PM PST and 10 PM EST.
This will be the mellower side of Michael.

Michael's new album project Touched-he is giving some of the proceeds from this to ovarian cancer research. My wife came VERY close to being in the same situation as his wife, so this means a lot.

Great voice

I can remember singing along to

First Love & a few others
Some of the Stryper songs were great heavy sort of metal rock ballads
driven by his soaring voice it didn't matter what his beliefs were...

I have one of the largest Stryper/Michael Sweet dvd/cd boot collections to repay you. PM me please.
Thanks.

Stryper has a special place in my heart!! Stryper was one of the first things this guy that I met in 1986 and I had in common - so we went to Stryper shows together - we have now been married almost 20 years!!

I would have loved to be at that Boston tribute. I loved Brad Delp big time!!

Thanks for the links and the information on the interview!! :D

I am a concert freak and haven't been able to go to any since being sick for these past few years and one of my favorite things to read about concerts is people meeting at them, or going to them together and then being married for many years.

Being a Stryper and Boston fan, to hear Mike singing those songs was incredible and unreal. This whole event was good for Mike on so many levels and came at a unique time.

Looking forward to hearing Stryper and Tom cover Boston on the new Stryper album.

Yeah, I took some time with the newer Stryper video links to find stuff that I hoped would show them in a different light to those who maybe only knew them from the 80's era and all that went with that.

Don't suppose you get TBN? I could hook you up with Stryper stuff.. :P

And speaking of Christian Rock, did you know:

- That the Lincoln Brewster that helped write FTLOSM & did that tour is the same Lincoln Brewster that does nothing but Praise & Worship guitar pop now?

- That TONS of Christian artists are session writers/players all over non-Christian music?

- That Tim Miner (who has a lot of credits on FTLOSM) was a Christian Music artist prior to working w/ Steve Perry?

- That GIANT members Dann & David Huff were founding members of WHITEHEART?

- That WHITEHEART's Gordon Kennedy wrote Eric Clapton's "Change The World"?

- That WHITEHEART's Tommy Simms toured with Bruce Springsteen's solo band?

- That Tim Gaines of STRYPER is now touring w/ Richard Marx?

- That PETRA's John Schlitt was also in HEAD EAST?

There's stuff like this all over the music scene...

I thought Oz did most of the leads on those Stryper albums?

Nope...Michael did 95% of the writing and I would say 65%-75% of the leads. Oz is no slouch, either...great player.

Besides being a great singer and guitarist, Michael is a great guy. I have had a couple chances to meet him in the past during his solo tours and I am not sure I've met a nicer guy. I am very impressed with his vocals on these Boston classics, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Oz also has an amazing voice too. They both play guitar amazingly and dual guitars are going most times. The hamonies are amazing too. Youtube doesn't do justice to some of the one's I posted to try and give a later to who Stryper is and how they still have it. Robert is an amazing drummer too. To bad he will not be on the new Stryper album.
Because of how they choice to play music, and because by the main stream general fan, they are known for being bumble bee dressing Bible Honestly singer people, Michael and Oz are hardly ever considered with the great guitar players or vocalist and it's a shame because they really are good.
