At this point in time, I don't think I'd want to see Smith back in the lineup. After hearing and seeing what he's capable of doing (and I've sat 5 feet in front of his drumset), it would be anti-climatic watching him play DSB or Separate Ways again. He would be holding back on his playing so much.

Trust me, he was that close.

Deano was talking about the last tour. The SoulSirkUS thing was before Generations in 2004/05.

Regardless of whatever the Wizard of Oz claims to know.
This is what I do know...and I'm not afraid to say it. I met and spoke with SS in April at a Vital Information show. Just the mention of Journey practically makes his eyes roll. He has no interest in the band anymore. And there are others here who have said the same from when they met him as well.

Deano, was it because they were going to put Castronovo out front if Jeff didn't accept the job or was Deen going to leave altogether? It's all water under the friggin' bridge now anyway...so just for conversational purposes, tell us WHY Smith was "that close" to returning? OR is it a big fuckin' SECRET or something??![]()

Saint John wrote:Surprised he didn't cry. My guess would be that he rolled his eyes becase your question reminded him about the $80 MILLION (approximately) the band had to flush down the toilet when Steve Perry decided not to tour. Steve Smith would be begging to tour with these guys if Perry ever came back.

If Journey now is the cash cow she seems to be, then no.....I see the originals
coming in to graze.(I mean this in no ill will, I would love an old days get together)
If new music and direction was to be in thier likes I would say Deen C is the man for the skins.

I beg to differ. New music and new direction, possibly. Better music and better direction? No. Dean is a one trick pony on the skins. All power, all pounding. Smith is an artist and can change up to suit the needs of the song. Like I said, night and day performances at the WOF after concert. Smith played two songs using dean's kit and he cut loose on them. No Perry around biting his fist as a visual que to Smith to get him to hold back on his chops. (quoted from Perry saying he used to do that during their concerts)
Dean is a much better singer than a drummer. It's too bad he doesn't have the stomach for being a front man.
