Yes. Hits are usually specific to time periods. Open Arms is one of the worst songs I've ever heard, but at that specific time, contrived, sappy ballads could sell. At NO other time would that song have been popular.

I think so too... I know its kind of fruity, and my tastes lean towards the Infinity-Departure Era. But H2G is such a beautiful tune, could at least have been a good song in a movie. Think of it superimposed over the diner scene in "When Harry Met Sally".
