I still say this doesn't happen. This article reads like something written by Schon. Man, it's just plain terrible.

This looks like it was ripped straight from that fillipino rag's "racist" article.

Arnel will never front Journey.

all is lost! His voice isn't bad, in fact it is quite good, but there is absolutely no emotion in it.
They will fix the accent and the clothes and live concerts will be appreciated by the casual fan, but not by me.
Neal, wake up and smell the roses, for gods sake.
Good luck, Journey, you will need it.

Classic Rock is actually the best and highest-selling rock magazine in the UK - and Geoff Barton, the guy who posted this was the editor of Sounds and Kerrang! during their classic eras. None of this probably means much to Americans - but all I'm saying is that this guy isn't some barking mad blogger nor a clueless Rolling Stone type. I imagine he's still pretty well-connected...

I'm feeling the emotion in his voice, Granny. And he's a big step up from Augeri - so they'll continue to do just fine out there on the nostalgia circuit.

Is "Romours" how they spell it in the UK?

It does read like that other article about that guy we're not supposed to talk about....

No, frfsakes - it was sheer laziness on the writer's or editor's part. I didn't say he'd won the Pulitzer Prize or anything. Just that he will have better connections than most of the guys who write the crappy articles that often get posted here.

Actually, I thought it was a bit different. Barton was being light-hearted and positive about the story - not whiney and victim-like. And he rightly said that Arnel was good.

I agree 100%. I think this guy flatout is the right choice. I believe Neal and Princess got it right this time.

i always enjoy reading posts outside of this forum, where other journey fans use journey terminology,,
like toast, stone, the voice, legacy, ect ect.. 8) . ..

... i would bet this Arnel gentleman works for more of a "reasonable" price.. .. cheap.. it is all
about the money ,,isnt it?? :?

Unless Steve Perry's new nickname is "Arnel Pineda", this is very disappointing news....

I think SP doesn't bite because he knows his fans still thrive to hear him again. Once that stops he'll do something. But if he doesn't hurry, he'll be doing it from a walker.

If either of these guys had Steve Perry's voice, would he be the right choice?

For Frig and Fro the answer would be "Yes". It all gives the impression that they are looking to exploit and pay sweatshop wages to anyone who would give their left nut just to be on a stage. That is probably in their best interests anyway since that band is finished. I don't blame them in that sense.

Yeah - or how about this freak too?

Augeri is actually the guy under the mask. I changed my post to include him as a choice too.

It doesn't matter if it's Arnel, Kamala the Ugandan Giant, or Kimchee. None of them look the part, and speaking English clearly to the audience is a requirement or at least should be. Perry, Soto, and even Augeri did have to communicate in between songs to help further the connection to the audience.

The whole thing really is laughable. I really hope Arnel gets the gig, so I can observe this train wreck from a distance.

Thanks for the article.

I haven't changed my opinion about Arnel one bit.He is really good, actually he's the best choice out there.
Someone said he's a genetic anomaly just like Steve Perry.Serious vocal chops.

I'd be interested to see him fronting Journey.

They could hire Killer Kahn.

He could sing and then spray the green bile out his mouth to complement Pencil Holder Face Valory spraying the water pistol.

"Apparently Neal Schon and co. were impressed by footage of Pineda performing Journey cover versions on YouTube."

Good lord. So they're picking their singers off cover band videos on YouTube now?
And when they already had a perfectly decent singer on board too...
I have lost much respect for this band, it's unbelievable.
Why not randomly click on a MySpace profile and they will be the new singer.
