"Hey everyone!
Sorry it has been SO LONG since I've been in touch. Life has been very busy for me these past 3-4 weeks. In the military, our "Fiscal" year ends Sep 30 so this is the time of the year that I get overwhelmed with the task of writing Quarterly/Annual Awards packages for my troops. It is a tiresome process, especially when trying to write 10-12 different packages, but it is worth it; these guys and gals are all bustin' their asses over here. Some of this may go over your heads but bear with me. This is how well my folks are performing…

We are here with 12 jets. 2 jets stay on a 15-min Alert commitment and can launch at anytime. There is always 1 jet going thru a "Phase Inspection" which is a lengthy, thorough tear-down of the jet that is due at certain airframe flying hour marks. See, like a car's maintenance is tracked by mileage, these jets and some of their maintenance is tracked by "flying hours". Ok, so that's 3 outa of the 12 already committed elsewhere. We lost one jet about 2 weeks ago to an engine fire on landing. The pilot landed the jet safely and egressed the aircraft on the runway (that means he shut it down, jumped out and ran like hell!) as the fire trucks were pulling up to extinguish. The jet is pretty much ok but the engine is junk, the engine bay that houses the engine is badly damaged and there is a lot of structural damage. So that jet will soon be tore down, disassembled and sent home in crates, no lie. So what's that leave us, 8? Now with only 8 jets to tinker with, we are responsible to have 2-4 jets in the air, 24hrs a day, flying 4-5hr missions… To sum up how well we are doing, we haven't missed a single sortie (combat mission), we've dropped upwards of 30 bombs, became the first F-16 unit in the AF to actually drop a Laser Guided Maverick bomb (2k lbs bomb that goes to target lit up by a targeting pod carried by the jet), my troops are volunteering time at the Base hospital in the ER, taking patients to-and-from the helicopters that are bringing in wounded US forces as well as wounded Iraqi civillians non-stop, 24hrs a day… Basically, we are working our tails off and couldn't be prouder!!!

I had a guy come in to work tonight, been in 18 years, 38 yo, and he had tears in his eyes. He had just finished his volunteer work at the helo pad and his tears were a mix of pride and sadness he later told me. A helo landed earlier in the night carrying a 9 yo Iraqi child that had been shot in the head during an attack on there village by some insurgients. Her mother was with her, couldn't speak any english but was completely devestated. This guy, Mike, spent over an hour trying to comfort her in the ER while they both watch the medics trying to save her child's life. Thankfully, the wound wasn't that bad; the child's left ear is gone but the bullet never actually penetrated his skull. Once the docs got him stable and explained thru a translator that he would be all right, the mother just sat in Mike's arms and cried on his shoulder… He stayed with her until she calmed and could be sedated. he explained all this to me (he's my Assistant and room-mate) and the tears just kept welling up because he was so proud of what those docs did and how he felt about himself, helping the mother… but he was also sad because this kind of thing happens everydasy the docs told him. Now you see one of the lesser known reasons we are here…

Before I forget, I have some BIG THANK YOUS to send out!!! Over the past few weeks I have received some wonderful packages!!!

Debbie, My Soul Sistah, YOU crack me up! I got a package from Debbie with mary Kay soaps, lotions, after shaves and the box had pix of me and Jeff taped on the outside, a few bald eagles and a pic of Deb and neal Schon… Too Funny!!! Thanks for the stuff, Debbie!!! The girls grabbed up the soaps and suncreen and I am sharing the after shaves :)~ I do, however like the soap and the aftershave cream in the bronze tube!

Suzie!!! Thanks for the Evans Blue debut cd!!! These guys are pretty damn great! Think of Breaking Benjamin thrown into a bowl, toss in a cup of Staind and add a pinch of Tool, whisk together and you have Evans Blue! HIGHLY recommend checking them out!

Kim, the New Pumpkins cd ROCKS!!! It gets back to the Siamese Dream sound and is loaded with great tunes! And this Special Edition booklet it came is is another story… it is WAY cool but WAY weird :)~ Thank you thank you thank you….

Kelly, the one AugeriHead other than Maria that I fought with relentlessly, THANK YOU for the new Silverchair cd, young modern! It takes off where Diorama finished and is a great album. Gotta listen a few times before you really "get it".

Nothing much else going on… My STEELERS are 2-0, I hear I'm missing out on the big VH tour, my wife tells me Sixx AM is coming to Utah and I will miss that too…

Oh, before I forget!!! NIGGY, Chuck Norris was in-country 2 weeks ago hanging with the troops!!! But he's a punk cause he didn't come to my base :)~

Ok, gonna go for now and I promise I won't let too much time pass between my next email!!! I got yelled at by my wife, actually, about that! THANKS MARIA :)~

Take Care ALL of you!!!

BTW, ANY new info on that band Journey??? What's going on with Jeff??? Is everyone going to South Bend??? If Drew is selling MR t-shirts could you talk him into donating an XL to me??? :)~

H@kk Out!!!"

I'm glad he is doing well over there. It's gotta be tough being half a world away from your family and be in a hostile environment like that.

Carl needs some items. He will share with all his men. They need coffee, personal items, snacks and anything that can be made with hot water. Sports pages are good too! If you get together like I have with my neighbors, you send it to his APO in N.Y and then the gov't takes over from there. Please give it a try. He said we can share his emails and pics,so anyone interested send your email address.

"To my MR Family…
I just want to say "Thank You" for all the kind emails I've received in the past 24hrs. Knowing that so many of you enjoy my stories and love sharing your own stories and thoughts with me is a blessing. Someone guessed correctly when they surmised that this must be a hard time for me. Although I know it is my duty to be here and that I actually believe we are making a small difference, there still remains a huge part of me that desperately wants to get out of here as fast as I can. It has nothing to do with fear; yes, we get the daily, random mortar attacks still. It has nothing to do with losing faith in our current govt, which sadly, I finally have. It has to do with the many, many wonderful things in life that pass me by while I am here. Already in the first month I have missed my daughter Abby's first giggles and her learning to "roll over" on her own. I've missed my oldest daughter Bella scoring a winning goal in a soccer game and the chance to take her to see her newest idol, Hannah Montana, in concert. I miss every-single-ounce of my wife...

And I miss you crazy guys and gals. I miss getting on the board and arguing with WyngDynger over his obsessive Racism crusade. I miss trying to explain to Matty that Friga is, and always will be, a bitch regardless of how many great songs he's written. I miss reading the legendary words of TNC, The "King Of Sling". I miss AR and LogJam's IncredibIely Hilarious Pix, I miss Deano telling EVERYONE to fuck off and DIE :)~ Fuck, I've been here WAY too long and have a LONG way to go! As NIGGY would say, "True Dat!"

But your emails keep me afloat. Even my wife can't believe the support I get from my "MR Family". She finds it sad that I have gotten more emails and packages from THIS Family than I have from my own… Because of an incident last Xmas between my youngest brother, my father and I, I guess you can say we aren't on the greatest of terms, even though I have reached out to them via email. But my wife also feels the same way I do about you all; she can't believe the support and friendship I get from you all and it makes her very happy that you all are there for me when I need to rant, kinda like I am right now :)~

Anyhoo, what can I say? The Steelers will be 3-0 after this weekend. Hockey is right around the corner and the Pens are gonna be even better. The Race For The Chase is in full swing and I really think it's gonna be a hard battle between Gordon, Jimmie and Smoke for the title. And of course, I've been watching Fox News and see that OJ may FINALLY wind up in jail after!

Finally, a few of you have asked again if there is anything that we need over here. To be honest, from what I've seen these past 30-days, the guys and gals seem to enjoy getting things like snacks, cookies, nuts, junkfood, books, candy, Cans of Coffee…

Me personally, since I am trying to maintain a strict diet, I have no need for these things. What I do crave endlessly is new music to listen to. So if any of you have gotten some great stuff recently, by all means, send it my way. And I don't mean BUY it for me. Burn it on a $.50 cd-rom, in MP3, WMA or CDAUDO, and send it. Just email me first… just in case I already have it or know that I wouldn't like it.

There are some new releases out there or coming that I would love to get my hands on, though: The latest Megadeth (not the Warchest), Eddie Vedder's solo effort (soundtrack to some movie, Into The Wild), VANESSA CARLTON'S OCT RELEASE :) Yes, just like I love Clarkson, I LOVE Vanessa Carlton, DON'T laugh! I think Maria, god bless her soul, is already planning on hooking me up with the new Alter Bridge and some other stuff, right Jagassette??? Hell, a few DVRs of Porn would be cool as hell!!! :)~ :)~ :)~

Yo, BESHAD!!!! I KNOW you got some MP3s for me, remember???

Deano, Lula!!! I've been getting the pix you've sent and the Tweanos look WONDERFUL!!! God Bless 'em. Thanks for sharing them with me.

Alright, enuff babbling from me!!!
As always, feel free to post anything I say on the boards if you want! I ain't scared. I'll just need SOMEONE to defend me if some AssClown, Tree-Hugging Newb starts talking shit about me! :)

Got a "three-fer" for you-all.... 8)

"Didn't Jeff's tour start this week??? Anyone got any pix??? remember, I can't get to any sites like Photobucket and the like so, if you have any cool pix, PLEASE send me some as attachments :)~

And tell Jeff, "DUDE! CALL BRETT MICHAELS AND FIND OUT HOW EASY IT WAS TO SET UP A VISIT TO IRAQ" :)~"
_______________________________________________________________________________________________

"Does anyone know what happened to Kim (Kimterp) or Ed (SotoAlltheWay)??? That last few emails I've sent out have shot "undeliverable messages" back to me for their email addresses. Just curious. And Susie, has anyone heard from her in awhile? I hope she is doing well..."
_______________________________________________________________________________________________

"Check it out everyone!

Brett Michaels, lead singer of Poison and star of VH1's hit series Rock of Love (Like I need to tell YOU folks who Brett is) will be visiting with and performing for the troops over here in Iraq in October. I haven't find out the complete itinerary of his trip or how long he will be staying in counrty but I can confirm he will be visiting/performing at the base I'm stationed at (LSA Anaconda, Balad AB) on Oct 5th. I also don't know if he will be performing on his own (Acoustic, Un-plugged format) or if he has a solo band with him. But I will email all the details of his visit here and try my hand at writing a show review for you. And if he does any Meet&Greets, I'll try to ask a few questions and pass on his answers too. I have literally been BEGGING my First Sergeant to give me one of the "resereved seat tickets" he has for the first 3 rows of the theater :)~ There aren't ANY bigger HairBand/Melodic Rock fans in Iraq bigger than me!

Hey NIGGY, at least Brett isn't a Punk like your boy, Chuck Norris! At least Brett is making a stop at the base I'm at. :)~ Chuck rolled thru a few weeks back, hit 1-2 bases then went to Germany!"

"Ok folks,
This is a message for those of you that have inquired about sending Care Packages and have been asking me "What would you guys and gals like?" Up until now I have been telling you things like snacks (nuts, chips, pretzels…), cookies, micro-popcorn, COFFEE… Well, thanks to a particular package that someone got and it's contents (which were devoured in seconds!!!), I can now honestly tell you ONE thing that will go over very well…

Don't laugh…

OREOS! OREOS of all flavors; regular, double-stuff, chocolate filling… OREOS!!!

I can't believe it myself!

So for those of you wondering, there is a GREAT idea!

Just came across this new song by Monk & Neagle. Someone get a copy to our boy H@@k!

What Soldiers Do

Come and walk with me, my son
I need to share my heart
Tomorrow when the morning comes
I'm headed off to war
Take care of your mother
And your little brother, too
I'm praying that I'll be home soon
So I can be with you

I know you're only 10 years old
I know that you're afraid
But I need you to be brave for me
And for the family
I know it's hard to see me cry
But put your mind at ease
God is watching over us
So we can be at peace

With all my heart
I can't wait to tuck you in
And sing a song to you
Son, stand strong
Love is the reason I would give myself for you
'Cause that's what soldiers do

Remember what I taught you now
About how to be a man
Talk with God throughout the day
He will help you stand
With faith to see, hope to believe
And love for everyone
Know that I'm so proud of you
And I will always love you, son

With all my heart
I want to take you to our favorite place
And catch a fish or two
Son, stand strong
Love is the reason I would give myself for you
'Cause that's what soldiers do

And as I go, I want you to know if I don't make it home
You are gonna be alright
I'm telling you, son, you're gonna touch the sky
Don't lose hope, just lift your eyes
We'll be together again some day

So with all my heart
Hold on to Jesus, son
And He will lead you through
Son, stand strong
You may never go to war
But you're a soldier, too
And when you have a son like you
Teach him to fight for what is true
'Cause that's what soldiers do

Another Reason Why I Miss MR.Com.

"You know,
I miss MR.Com everyday and the fact that I can actually read sites like BLABBERMOUTH.NET makes me miss MR.Com more!
I'm sure you have all heard about the shooting in Cleveland Wednesday at a local High School? Well, this is a true example of how the media twists things and causes more problems than help sometimes.

Blabbermouth's (BM’s) headline is “14-year-old Marilyn Manson Fan Shoots 4…” and reads:
“The AP reports that a 14-year-old suspended student, wearing a black MARILYN MANSON concert shirt, black jeans and black-painted finger nails, opened fire in his Cleveland, Ohio high school Wednesday…”

But the ‘actual’ AP official release is simply “Gunman Dies; 5 Injured at Ohio School” and reads:
“A 14-year-old suspended student, dressed in black, opened fire in his downtown high school Wednesday…”

The fact that the kid was wearing a Manson shirt wasn’t mentioned until later in the story when witnesses described what he was wearing.

This story ISN’T related to music and it shouldn’t have even been posted here. But by BM tossing a headline like that together, from different fragments of an article, they MADE it related to music and musicians, and it is this kind of ‘shotgun reporting’ or ‘guess-work’ that brings down shit-storms of bad press and headaches to musicians like Manson and other celebrities.

Honestly, had this kid not been wearing a MM shirt, BM would never have posted this story. But by doing it this way, regardless of the “band” on the shirt, they are drawing undue attention where it is not needed or warranted.

This kid had issues, he had recently made threats but the faculty and students didn’t take action as they probably should have. Why be the first one to toss out, “Well, he was a Marilyn Manson Fan…”

See how shitty this is??? I have to rely on dipshit sites like BM to get my music news! GOD DAMN!! I can't wait to get home and see MR.Com again!

BTW, I heard some of y'all had a party this past weekend ;) Got any pix to share???

MaryLou, got your BIG package of goodies… BIG THANKS!!! the kids tore it up!

I also got a GREAT package from one of the Kims in here… the Sunflower seeds were a complete success! And the Phone Cards were a major bonus! major Thanks!!!

"Could it be???"

"Gee,
As much as I vented last week about sites like BLABBERMOUTH, I did actually see a story there that really sparked my imagination and fired up my "wishful thinking" engines :)~

BLABBER is reporting that Jeff has cancelled his Australian dates "due to a possible addition to Jeff's schedule which we will announce here soon. Unfortunately the importance of this upcoming news coincides with the dates originally booked and there are plans to rebook as soon as possible."

Could it be that my over-active imagination, constant wishful thinking, and persistent nagging/hints thrown Jeff's way have finally led to him planning a USO tour over to my neck of the woods?!?!?!?

I am sure this is NOT what is really going on but a Boy can dream, right? But if anyone has any inside info, especially if I am not too far off the mark, let me know… Just seems kinda funny that, counting last week when someone asked for them, I have sent the USO Information Jeff's way 3-4 times already in the last 6 months… Hmmmmmmm :)~ Keeping my fingers crossed!!!

Not much going on over here. Although its been pretty quiet "on-base", things have been far from it off-base. I am sure everyone has heard about one of the recent attacks US/Coalition Forces made North of Bagdhad last week. It was all over CNN and MSN since, aside from some no-kidding bad guys, a few innocent civilians and children were killed as well. What CNN and MSN don't usually explain is how the bad guys and gals USE the kids to get thru checkpoints and into areas they usually wouldn't to pull off their attacks. Wheteher its strapping bombs to themselves, the kids or using the kids as shields, it is the grown-up terrorists that put these kids in harm's way, not us. In fact, just this morning, a VBIED (Vehicle-Born Improvised Explosive Device) tried crashing thru a check-point 600 yards from one of the gates to the base I'm at. Of course, they didn't get thru but the suicide driver and passenger detonated the VBIED anyway, killing 19-20 Iraqi civillians being brought to the base where they work and injuring just 1-2 of our own SF folks. I was in a chow-hall when it went up and, let me tell you, it was probably at leat 2 miles away but the explosion literally 'shook' the facility. It's hard to explain what these explosions are like, whether it be from a mortar, a rocket, an IED or VBIED. It's not like your TV's surround sound or like 4th of July Fireworks. It’s a really 'deep' boom that might not be so loud but you literally 'feel' it in your gut… I can't really explain it but it's scary as hell everytime no matter how many times it happens.

Enuff Doom & Gloom from me!!!
BTW, Can ANYONE beat the freakin' Patriots t this point?!?!?!?!? My Steelers will be in New England on Dec 9th! Wonder if they'll still be undefeated???
