Their loss, not yours. Enjoy your life with your family my friend.

Having spent some time with the band, I can say that I still don't understand why Perry might not have felt like he was part of the band, but I can see how over time, as that relationship soured, it must have become a very "us" and "him" situation between Perry and the band. Another member of a great AOR band who did a few shows with Journey both in their heyday and in the Augeri years cautioned me that he felt an odd vibe between Augeri and the rest of the band, kind of the same "me" and "them" wavelength. I can appreciate that a lot more from Augeri's standpoint, but from Perry's standpoint - If what Herbie said was true, that band meetings had come down to Perry and Lee Phillips (his uber-attorney) at one end of the table, and the rest of the band at the other, I can appreciate that. I can also understand Perry's "never felt like" comment from the standpoint that there must have been some power struggles between Perry and Herbert, that Perry felt like he was on the outside of, and that may have played a part in that comment as well.
But he loses me at the "never" part...Certainly at some point, that "band of brothers" mentality must have united them. What happened to "We believed in music, brothers 'til the end...?"
LazzMan wrote:Hello Jeremy, my name is Lisa and I am the HR Director of the Journey organization. Welcome aboard and you new employee number is 364189. You will use this number when completing timesheets, which are due each Friday no later than 5:00 p.m. PST. Failure to submit timesheets in a timely fashion could result in your paycheck not getting issued. In addition, I'd like to go over some of the conditions of your compensation plan:
- It is the organization's expectation that you will write one new song per week. This song should fit the same genre as our current catalog, as we don't see any value in exploring anything new, music-wise.
- You must, without fail, consistently create the "Steve Perry magic" when collaborating with any band member.
- You must continue to grow your hair, at the minimum rate of 1-inch per week until it is straight and six inches below the shoulder. Additionally, it is the expectation that you remain clean-shaven with the exception of mini-muttonchop sidburns that must be worn at all times.
- For live shows, tight jeans, Nike Cortez sneakers, yellow leopard-skin shirts, and texedo tails must be worn at all times. On this point, there is absolutly no negotiation and are hereafter referred to as "deal-breakers" in your employment agreement with our organization.
- We would preferr it if you could also expand your nose to be larger and somewhat disproportionate to your face. If this is not genetically possible, a schnoz extension will be acceptable pending the approval of the other band members.
- Lastly, you will both introduce yourself and be referred to hereafter as "Steve".
Failure to meet or exceed any of these conditions will result in your immediate termination from the organization with no warning or due course. Also, these conditions are subject to change without notice or confirmation with you, and could also result in the termination of your employment. We also reserve the right to terminate your employment for whatever reason we deem as "non-80's behavior" or, "non-Perry emmulation". This would be at our descretion and, again, without warning or due course to you.
Thank you, Jeremy and, again, Welcome to the Journey organization.
Jeremey, thanks so much for that clarification. When a fan has such a deep rooted love for a band, and things so terribly sour, it is just nice to know the truth from the perspective of someone that has been around it. It answers a lot of questions and will no doubt end some speculation. And you ARE the lucky one, you will be much happier than if you joined those two nutcases.Saint John wrote:Jeremey wrote:LazzMan wrote:Yeah, I read your blog and that seemed screwed up. Ahhh....good old Behind The Music. What we may not have seen is the context Perry's statement was taken out of, Jeremey. He may have been referring to a specific time period. For all we know his statement could have been preceded by "Yeah, after 1983 their was a lot of division in the band. From that point on, I NEVER REALLY FELT LIKE A PART OF THE BAND." VH-1 may have edited that out for dramatic purposes...something networks LOVE to do. I'm not putting words in Steve Perry's mouth or trying to defend him, but I think it's only fair that we assume a lot of those segments were edited to cause as much shit stirring as possible.
