OT - Page and Coverdale

Postby chf34jmac » Thu Oct 04, 2007 12:19 pm

I happened to hear a song done by Jimmy Page and David Coverdale today on XM and form the way it sounded (VERY Led ZEP Like) I really started to pay attention to the sound. I have to say that if Zep were to do an actual tour not a one of, and Plant wasn't willing to do it, Coverdale has both the power, range and sound to his voice to do it amazingly. Anybody else?

Yep, Coverdale's voice is not too awfully far from his peak in the late 80's and early 90's whereas Plant's is basically shot from what I understand(at least as far as his vocal range is concerned). I'm afraid that many people are going to be disappointed in this one Zep show in November mostly because of Plant's inability to pull off the histrionics. The Coverdale Page album from '93 is GREAT and the chemistry between the two was very tantalizing...I would have loved to have seen 3 or 4 studio albums together but alas, it was not to be. On the one tour they did, however, they did a admirable job on both old Whitesnake songs as well as a few Zep covers.

I wouldn't rule out the possibility that Coverdale and Page might do something again in the future but NO WAY would that project ever be called Led Zeppelin...

Do you remember the title or any lyrics? I'd like to check it out.

Unfortunately, I was in the middle of driving so I couldn't write it down. Bugs me too because I really wanted to listen to that song again when I got home. :D

Coverdale's voice is not in good shape....it's not half what it was when he recorded that album with Page in 93...what a CLASSIC album...love it.

You're correct. I've seen quite a few of the clips from "Live in the Still of the Night" DVD and he doesn't sound nearly as good.

You're also right about the Coverdale/Page album. Great stuff. It's the best work that either artist did outside their respective bands.

I can't believe there are only three years difference in the ages of Plant and Coverdale.

Coverdale Page is a great CD. I know there is footage of Page backstage on the Whitesnake DVD. Coverdale and Page are still "mates" as David put it. Think it would great to hear some more new stuff from the two.
