JLT can still cut it, but not on Journey songs. That would probably finish him off. A good choice on the surface, but it just wouldn't work, and I'm a huge JLT fan.

Casual fan, eh? I've got EVERY Journey album aside from the S/T 1975 release and Dream After Dream. I've got countless Journey mix cd's that I made myself for road trips, etc... I know just about EVERY song they've ever done by hearing maybe 1/2 seconds of it... intro or otherwise... I've seen Journey with SA four times (2001, 2003, 2004, 2005), once with JSS (yeah, I'm only 26 so I wasn't really old enough to care back in '86-'87 last time they toured with SP). SA did the Journey catalog justice (at least when it was him singing it, which it most definitely was in 2001) and Jeff Scott Soto seemed to channel Perry... so much so that it was creepy at times... not just the voice but the entire stage presence was also there. Also, if you're interested to know, I'm very disappointed that I will never have the opportunity to hear JSS nail "Winds Of March" (imagine it) with Journey. Here's to hoping he's reading this and decides to play it with his solo band. Seriously. Imagine how great that would be. Hell, even imagine Jeremey or Arnel nailing the tune. Both have got excellent pipes. I understand Neal & Jon did some horrid things to SA and Jeff... but last time I checked we weren't all saints in here either. Like it or not, Journey is still an excellent band, all faults and horridness of actions aside. I mean, come on, Axl still pulls no-shows on fans and entire concerts are cancelled/rioted and people still listen to GNR/buy tickets... even though Axl is the only real original left. Seriously. I'm a Journey fanatic and always will be. I may not understand exactly where you're coming from, but I honestly don't know if I want to if it means I'm going to end up angry and bitter.

John

He has his own range... like I said, not the SP range... but a uniqueness that would still work with the band... just imagine if he'd have got the job back in '78... also imagine if Perry would have got the Blackmore gig after Graham Bonnet. HA!!! Don't mind me, I'm still laughing at the guy who called me a casual fan from his second floor (although his basement is nice toO). Just remember, we're all friends here (unless your sole point is to bash).

I always like to bring up things for "what if" purposes. Just to get the idea out there, y'know? as I said in an earlier post, imagine if JLT got the Journey gig back in '78... and SP got the Blackmore gig after Graham Bonnet left... another what if scenario... kinda like if Dio or Gillan stayed with Sabbath.

I don't know if anyone can..Ok,one guy could..Brad Delp.(my other all time favorite singer) Let this one bake your noodle once!!!! Brad Delp was in Journey and Steve Perry was in Boston? HOLY SH*T ! Could you imagine if they did an album together..BD and SP on the same album..wow!

If you read it how its written I stated the self-titled (abbreviated as S/T) 1975 release and Dream after Dream. Self-titled came out in '75 as far as I'm aware.

JOE LYNN TURNER!!!

Yeah, I know, no chance of that EVER happening... but personally, IF Arnel gets the job... I think he will do well... I don't really understand what everyone has against him. From what I've seen recently, Journey has more fair-weather fans than just about any other band. Granted, they shouldn't have let a talent as great as JSS go, but until we know what exactly is going on, we shouldn't sit here and bash a band that we have absolutely no idea what their current reasoning state is. Arnel, Jeremey, Hugo, Kevin Chalfant, ...STEVE PERRY? I'll support just about any great singer who comes along for the band and does the catalog (and hopefully NEW material) justice!!!

How's that for a FIRST post on the board?

Welcome. I imagine if Steve Perry himself were to post here, some would call him a dumba** who doesn't know what he's talking about, just because it was his first post. The assumption seems to be that if you have a million posts, you know what you are talking about. If you don't, your opinion is worthless.

Jump in, say what you want and don't waste time worrying about some of the responses. See my post about the Brad Paisley video (http://forums.melodicrock.com/phpBB/vie ... hp?t=29255). It describes many who post here.

The level of hostility is disappointing and something I continually try and address. But the bottom line is that the fan base the united happily for some time during the JSS tenure has now finally given up and sadly the air of pessimism that many feel (those long time die hard fans that take the time to look this board up...) is hard to shake.

I'm eternally hopeful that the mood will lift here, as things in the world of Jouney are not likely to change in any way that will appease those currently unhappy.

Your first post sucks. Journey has no "reasoning state" Most people here arent fair weather fans. We have been fucked and lied to from a band that we admired and spent alot of $$ and time to go see.You would be satisfied with anyone fronting the band. How about Brittney Spears? As long as she does the catalog for you that would work for you.Fuck the catalog, fuck Journey

***Apologies to those who have seen this before***

You people just don't get it do you? The average Journey fan could CARE LESS who is singing, as long as they sound good and it is the dirty dozen + or - a song or two.

We care because we aren't average Journey fans, and we just don't like what they did to Jeff. But that is our emotions talking.

Journey is going to tour middle sized venues and some larger outdoor venues next summer and make millions, no matter who they have on vox.

It's the music the average fan cares about. As long as they have the name Journey they will attract an audience.

Sure it would be BIGGER with Perry, but that won't ever happen. So Schon and Cain, Ross and Deen and whatever singer it ends up being will be on the road playing to 8 to 10 thousand people a night and those are the facts. Like them or not.

Somehow comforting youself with the inane notion that Journey is going to be playing county fairs is juts plain wrong. Did they handle everything with Jeff right...absolutely not...it was disgraceful, but to the average fan who just wants to go hear the music on a warm summer night it doesn't matter and that average fan will shell out the $$$ to see Journey and listen to the dirty dozen and relive their youth.

Be mad at Journey that's fine at least though don't blind yourselves with emotion and think that because of how Journey hurt Jeff it will make an iota of difference in the amount of money they are going to make next tour, because it won't.
so then save your money and go see a different tribute band at a smaller venue.
