Night Ranger Lead Singer / Schon, Cain

Postby brandonx76 » Sat Oct 06, 2007 11:08 am

Hey folks -

I was talking to my brother who lives in Hawaii and he was listening to a radio station. Apparently the DJ is friends with Neal and he has made a few appearances on the show. In any event, the DJ was playing a song that was from the 'lead singer' from Night Ranger, and members of Journey were on the track (definitely Schon, possibly Cain). I think this may be from a Jack Blades solo release or a Kelly Keagy solo release. Anyone happen to know what track this might be? Said it was really good.

cheers

Don't know the song, but the Journey website used to have a link to an interview Neal did with a DJ in Hawaii. Since the site is down, you can't find it there.

With regard to Jack Blades, I was thinking last night about what Journey might sound like with him out front. Nothing like Perry, but he and Neal wrote Higher Place on Arrival together. They seem to have some writing chemistry.

Van Halen went clearly a different direction with Hagar. Journey could do something similar with Blades, write some new material and bring in fans of both Night Ranger and Journey. Won't happen if they want the classic sound, but it's fun to dream of the possibilities. :D

On Jack Blades self titled solo album are three songs written by Jack Blades & Neal Schon:

- Sea Of Emotions - where Neal also played guitar
- Alone Tonight - with other guitar player
- To Touch The Sky - where Neal also played guitar

On Over The Edge featuring Mickey Thomas album are two songs written by Jack Blades & Neal Schon:

- One World - with other bass and guitar players
- Surrender - with Neal Schon on guitar, but with other bass player

On Ted Nugent's Great Gonzos! The Best of Ted Nugent is a song co-written by Ted Nugent, Neal Schon, Jack Blades and Tommy Shaw:

- Give Me Just a Little

Jack Blades was responsible for co-writing of 6 Journey songs in Augeri-era:

- Remember Me (Cain/Schon/Blades)
- Higher Place (Schon/Blades)
- World Gone Wild (Schon/Cain/Blades)
- I Got A Reason (Schon/Cain/Blades)
- Kiss Me Softly (Schon/Blades/Augeri)
- Never Too Late (Schon/Cain/Blades) - with Deen Castronovo on lead vocals

Other than that, I might be missing a song or two written by Blades & Schon on some other Frontiers Records release...

Thanks Maro! I am pretty sure it was something from the Jack Blades stuff, because my brother mentioned it was the lead singer of Night Ranger (though they had two lead singers) I wonder if these songs are on iTunes (checking)..they're not..:-(

I noticed the track listing on Jack's solo CD does not include ' Alone Tonight ' is that a bonus track on a special edition? (see: http://www.amazon.com/Jack-Blades/dp/B0001MMGQ8)

Ok, I tracked them all down. By far the best cut is Little More Time, by Ted Nugent. Don't have any of 'The Nudge's' albums, but if any are as good as this track....it's a definite rocker.

The Alone Tonight cut, is something I'll probably never listen to again...what's with that last vocal thing Jack does towards the end of the song?? uhhggg..

Anyway, the other cuts are pretty good, Schon's guitar shines through the mid level production (a strange organic / home studio sound prevails). Sea of Emotion is a great track, and could've been on Arrival. Definitely a Night Ranger meets Journey sound. Mickey Thomas cuts are decent, again Neal's playing, just awesome.

Thanks again Maro

Null problemmo... happy to be of help... :D
Speaking of Nuge, try with Penetrator album... there is Brian Howe singing... who'd be later doing great things in Bad Company...
