Keep On Runnin'

Another great song by the same title:

I always wondered if JOURNEY's line "Keep on runnin' - keep on hidin'" was a nod to this song...

That makes 3 I think.

I knew about 2 Journey songs that had titles of other songs.

Raised on Radio by The Ravyns
Ask The Lonely by The Four Tops

Now this one!

No doubt that they "borrowed" that line.

"Keep On Runnin' Keep On Hidin"

It's too great a line not to use together.

How about Sam Cooke's "Nothin' Can Change This Love":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNhzDM1zSAQ

About :38 into it:
"Make me weep - and you can make me cry..." sound familiar?

Yup. He was 14 in 1962 when Spencer Davis first met him and asked him to join his group

Sam's "I was booooorn by the river - in a little tent..." echoes in Happy To Give's "I was boooorn a believer - played the fool..." it's subtle but it's there.

Oooo - that's a good catch! For all the times I've listened to both songs I never picked that up! Subtle, but there!

Another real subtle one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZQwgLW92n4

Slow down Sam's "Whoa-oh-oh-ooo-oh, little girl..." and you've also got the opening line to Little Girl from Dream After Dream.

I don't think it was intentional or even subconscious, for that matter. They sound somewhat similar but not enough to really draw much of a comparison.

If you're at all familiar with Sam Cooke's work you'll hear it. Sam used this type of vocal intro in a efw other songs, too particularly when he was with the Soul Stirrers. To my ear Happy To Give is clearly a "lift".
