I enjoyed it...but it was pretty damn far from amazing.

Actually, that's true... If Augeri would've done the song a half step lower (as he should've) he would've been crapped on by the fans.

Perry's awesomeness isn't necessarily his range, it's his feel. The guy's got the best vocal feel of ANYONE.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

He was 23 and yes he is doing christian rock now.

Yup yup

I have his Live to Worship CD and it is pretty amazing. It's easy to see why Perry sought him out at such a young age to play on FTLOSM.

So, when Neal Schon gets too old for his fingers play as quickly as they do today, and he plays songs slower or in different keys, will people say he sucks, or will they finally understand that just like vocal chords, age takes its toll? Will people finally understand why soprano males can only sing that way for so long before they have to tune down a step or so to still sing? Will people say 'thats not Journey any more because NS doesn't shred the lead like he used to?

Or, will everyone finally realize that it's a matter of feel no matter how the current delivery?

I'm kinda sick of this half step lower discussion. how many fans have perfect pitch and would know the difference. it's ridiculous. what ? do they make an announcement--"FYI--we are doing the concert 1/2 step lower. if this bothers your ears, please ask for a refund at the ticket counter and GO HOME!"

and are we less than perfect people cuz we can't fit into the jeans we wore in JR high? or do anything else we used to do when we were younger? c'mon.

sheesh

I don't see age as a toll taker. and I don't see Neal slowing down anytime soon. 8) and IF he does, it will still be Neal.

(again, not a comment about what you said personally, just a general comment)

Thanks Nora for posting this!!

I just got the chance to listen to it.

So we have the burden of it being a youtube clip, possibly out of sync, Perry x years older/over the hill/etc , Perry unable to perform at all by some opinions.

What I heard and saw:

Silk

Only a real pro could make it all work like that.

I wasn't trying to start anything by pointing out the En  Eb thing......

All I meant was: after ALL THESE YEARS, with one tour playing "110 live concerts to over 2 million fans" (Frontiers), all he had to do was move down 1/2 of one pitch.

Hell, I've heard other Artists of that genre (Blondie, for ex.) whose version NOW of "Call Me" is UNRECOGNIZEABLE - she dialed it down I don't know HOW many steps.

People don't realize - the Human voice is visceral - muscle, etc - it is NOT separate of your body, IE Neal's Guitar.

With all due respect to Mr. Schon's playing ability - yes, Arthritis would most definitely slow down his ability to play....BUT - he could still play in the same key as he did from Day One.

That fucker can sing in any key.Never off key, Never. He should have waited a couple years, and have had hip replacements, kicked Neal and Friga in the ass, move the songs down a step and Started a tour in 2000. They would have done as good if not better than Van halen is doing right now.Journey was a great band, but they blew it so many times.

He only went down a 1/2 step: from E-Natural, to E-Flat. Played both vocal lines on my Keyboard before I typed.
