Skynyrd's great. Faves:

Gimme Back My Bullets
That Smell
Gimme Three Steps
Simple Man
Saturday Night Special

Do get tired of FB and SHA since they've been played to death.

There's a funny part in one of Modest Mouse's concerts where crowd keeps yelling for Free Bird. MM says no way in hell they'll ever play it.

Not often these two bands come up in the Jrny board.

A lot of .38 special is good but some tracks I just can't get into. Whereas L.S. always keep their southern sound, .38 varies. Second Chance I guess the best example. Rockin' Into The Night is a good rocker. Both good bands though.

Also like some April Wine & Molly Hatchet.

Ok, NOW back to topic ... :D

I really don't have a problem with .38 Special, and there is a lot of wisdom in the words of "Hold On Loosely". A good song -- just never got into them.

I don't even really mind Skynnard songs like "Saturday Night Special"... I give them their due for sure, but I guess I'm not in their main target audience.

RipRokken wrote:You are right, and I wasn't really thinking. I've never really listened to much Kansas outside of "Dust in the Wind" and "Carry On", and those songs certainly aren't Southern rock. I was mainly thinking of Skynnard, I guess, and probably 38 Special. Maybe I remembered that promo photo I saw of Kansas last year where one of the dudes was wearing an eye-patch and got the wrong impression. Thanks for setting me straight!

That would be Rich Williams, their guitarist. He lost an eye when he was younger in a firecracker accident, so instead of wearing a false eye, he just wears the patch. He's not a flash guitar player, but he's an awesome rhythm player and plays with feeling. Steve Morse was in the band for awhile and said that he learned a thing or two from Rich, which is quite the compliment considering that Morse is thought of as one of the best in the industry.

Anyway, I'd highly recommend checking out Kansas. You might like some of their stuff, at least lyrically. Very spirtually oriented even before Kerry Livgren and Dave Hope, both founding members, became Christians in the late 70s.

There are a lot of these insecure little bastards around -- the "If I can't have you, nobody can" crowd. Control freakedness never works, and only makes everyone miserable. Sorry for going off a bit -- I have a particular disdain for control freakitude... haha!

Haha! I'd be tempted to use Priceline to get a better price, except I could be traced... :) Actually, I guess there is no charge for the hallway. :P

UGH and DOUBLE UGH!!

That is hands down the longest, most annoying, crappiest, most overplayed piece of garbage in American radio.

The rest of their songs follow suit.

Amen.

I didn't care much for Skynyrd, either, until I saw them live a few years ago. They kicked ass. I'm still not a huge fan but those guys are certainly good players.

A Canadian in the Mist!

Wondering how long before someone noticed they're not a southern band.

Whenever I think of this music, I always think of April Wine for some reason. Excellent tunes.

I was very disappointed with The Rolling Stones when I saw them.

Boston on the 3rd Stage tour - because of the sound being too low, and no real backing vocals. In later years they became a much better live act after Fran Cosmo joined the band though.

Any Journey show that was mimed.

Arrrrgh..... hearing the two words "Canadian" and "Mist" within 3 words of each other in the same sentence elicits very bad memories of being violently ill for 3 days straight after drinking a pint of that foul stuff 15 years ago.... LOL! My avatar says it all!

As much as the Foreigner concert I described earlier was a disappointment, the opening act for them was still far worse. I don't even remember the name of the band but it was some band local to the Ft. Wayne area and they were a very poor imitation of Motley Crue or Ratt or something like that. Just awful.

I'm not quite sure what happened to me -- had the worst hangover I've ever had, and ended up calling in sick for 2 days afterwards (I think it was 2, not 3, come to think of it). I know at least that first day I did not get out of bed... haha!
