" ... at end of October, when I abandon my wife and sons again immediately for the Bay Area, to record San Fran's fave sons ... "

Wonder who he's talking about here? Santana, Metallica, Steve Miller, or ???
Anyone hear any rumors? Maybe the demos that Journey gave to Jeremey are being finished...?

Jefferson Sunkship?

Favorite "sons" rules that one out. Plural so Santana and Miller out. Either Metallica or Journey. If it were Metallica I think he'd describe them differently. Leaves Journey as the option.

I'm guessing Journey's gonna make one last gasp at it. Hope its better then Generations, that shouldn't be hard to do.

I've said it all along - it wouldn't make any sense to announce the new singer and then wait 6 months before announcing a tour. I had a feeling they would announce the new singer and the fact that they are recording a new album with him to be released before a summer 2008 tour (or whenever it will be). It wouldn't surprise me if Shirley is hitting the studio with Journey with ______ on lead vocals.

Well I hope he's talking about Journey. Some other acts that call the Bay Area home - Green Day, Night Ranger, Huey Lewis and the News (doubtful), Y&T, Sammy and his band. The favorite sons comment cetainly seems to be a hint at Journey since he has regularly worked with them, but could still apply to anyone mentioned in this thread so far.

Hopefully we get some concrete news here soon.

Yeah, after all the blowback, regardless of who fills that blank, they better get a good album out before they announce any tours.

It's going to be real interesting how this goes down.

The Cavewoman

Postby StoneCold » Wed Oct 17, 2007 7:14 pm

Sorry Arkansas, 'gotta change up for a second.

When I saw the title of the thread, I thought it was a plug for the Caveman show that's on now.

I caught it last night and they had a cavewoman. Here she is before? cave makeup.

Jeremey would be a much better choice to follow JSS than another fellow who AP -parently already has the job.

Don't worry about Froy, EA...she has an unexplainable contempt for me, so much that she waits for new YouTube vids just to pounce on them and say how much I suck. I don't know what I did to her, probably said something about Styx at some point which she took as a personal attack on all she holds dear. It's absurd really. Just post something about me, and Froy will be in the thread within hours to bash.

With regards to the OP, I would highly doubt he is talking about Journey....For one, Neal mentioned many times that he could not stand Shirley's production idiosyncracies and arrangements, and I highly doubt he would be brought in for another Journey project. Second, there is no way they have enough new material to record a new CD at this point. Plus, Elson is their man. He would be at the helm for any new production efforts.

Well if whispers of perry's return have substance to them, and they record, i'll bet it WILL be Shirley, ergo another snoozefest.

Well with Shirley, Journey seems to make the most sense. Metallica and Green Day are the only real other big SF names operating these days. I can't see Shirley working with either of those two though.

I guess we will hear something soon. I am wondering, it it is Journey, does having Shirley mean they have signed a new recording deal with Sony  . If they have, I missed that bit of news.

Shirley has worked with Metallica before.

And they are the only SF band I can think of that is actually working on an album.

Any chance Shirley could be working as Rubin's engineer?

The only way I could ever see Shirley back with Journey is if Perry and Kalodner were involved and insisted on it.

Agreed 100%

Altho JDK has been "retired" he has always said that his favorite sound in the world is Steve Perry's voice.

And JDK has hired Kev on many projects.

and we could be making mountains out of molehills, but then what else is new??

Isn't Rubin busy being the president of Sony Records these days? Maybe Shirley is coming in to take some heat off of him. I guess it's within the realm of possibility that Shirley could be involved in a new Journey recording, but it just wouldn't make sense considering the feelings Schon had about the Trial By Fire situation. Plus, Perry didn't get along that well with Shirley either, so aside from a Rick Rubin or Phil Ramone stepping in, I can't imagine anyone but Elson being behind the console for any new Journey recordings.

Froy tread lightly on bashing Jeremey. He is a friend to an awful lot of people on these boards, and if I am looking through my crystal ball correctly you are headed straight into an ass ripping of biblical proportions. That of course is JMO but I am also one who considers Jeremey a friend and I would like nothing better than to beat you down right at this moment but one of my other MR friends has even bigger problems that has my focus elsewhere.
