Anyway, I don't know that he had such malicious intent in covering the song. It's a classic that's been covered many times.
The film of the same title spurred a re-release of the song in '86 which reached the Top 10 charts again. I'm guessing it was a popular song to play at the time.

PS Springsteen and U2, along with The Beatles and Zeppelin, are the most overrated musicians ever. I'd have to put that dirty jean wearing dirtball Bruce in front of the other noise pollution, though.
Depends on how you are rating "musicians". From a technical playing of the instrument perspective, your are right. From an ability to create music that impacts people on an enourmous scale, you're wrong.
