I wonder if it comes from the fact that their respective bands were so successful and they are jealous that the lead singers got a majority of the fame that went along with their success?

I wonder if he's becoming jealous of Cain now also since he has gotten more notice recently with the success of that crap version of "Faithfully" and the press that ensued after DSB was on that last episode of "The Sopranos"?

If you haven't seen the last one, then you need to. It does a great job of closing out the story. It was made very well.

Bon Jovi I can understand. I've never gotten the whole U2 thing. Even in the 80's, WTF?

I love U2's 80s stuff. Since then, though, with the exception of a couple of albums, they have just followed the trends.

I did like U2 early on, as well as Bon Jovi, but since the early 80's neither of those band have done anything I've cared for.

My musical window is incredibly narrow of late. I know I'm missing a lot, but dammit, I'm enjoying what I love.

Last Jovi cd I really liked was "Keep the Faith". The song "Fear" off that is great!!!!

AR wrote:They say you never stop listening to the music you grew up with. A truer line was never spoken. I will always be a melodic rock / metal fan and listener. However these bands are dinosaurs ready to become extinct.

I remember getting dragged along as a kid and early teen to with my parents when they went to oldies revivial shows. Franki Vali, The Association, Roy Orbison (that was VERY cool actually), and plenty of other acts. They would play the small ampitheater here in Baltimore at pier 6. What's astonishing now, is that my favorite bands have become those acts and are now OLDER than those favorites of my parents were at the time!!!!!!

Many of us here are in are mid 30's, 40's and in some cases 50's. Do not kid yourself that any of "our" bands are ever going to have a hit again. It just isn't ever going to happen. Just be happy if a 70's or 80's band just puts a new song or some new material out because it's the best you can hope for.

What many people don't get is that it has been over for quite sometime. Some of these acts can still draw audiences, which is a testament to them and this style of music. However barring the one shot reunions of a Van Halen, Kiss (now 11 years since they got back together), The Police, etc. - they are all just waiting to be put out to pasture.

Just look at the Billboard hit singles charts and it will tell you all you need to know. I don't know any of the songs on there. You know why? Because I'm getting fucking old. I hate hip hop, American Idol and Country music and that is all that sells.

So embrace it. I have. I am now what my parents were in the early 80's - going to see my heroes a few more times before they pack it in. I take comfort in the fact that I grew up in the best possible era of music. I will buy a ticket to see these bands as many times as possible, because there will become a time when they are not around to enjoy anymore. With the expception of the fools in Journey of course who I wish empty seats and aging cellulite ridden groupies on. ;)

I was thinking along the exact same lines, but you summed it up probably better than I ever could. Excellent post!

I think the reason U2 has survived is by their ability to evolve with the times. I remember seeing them on Mtv singing "I will follow" and wondering if they were related to Adam and the ants. There next album October had a different sound but they were not quite there yet. Then came their Joshua tree album and they blew up. If some of the these guys would take a risk to reinvent themselves even just a little bit they would probably be able to have some sucess in this day and age. Then again some groups don't really have to change their sound, just put something out there to show the fans your trying. The Moody Blues are in their 60's and still have good album sales even though their last 5 records sound very similar. The groups that wither and fade are the ones thinking the same dirty dozen is going to satisfy us for the next twenty years. The Blues , Bon Jovi and U2 will actually play some of their new songs in concert which helps new fans from feeling cheated when all they hear is the back catalogue and none of the songs from the CD they just purchased.

Dave kill that faggot Red Sox avatar. If they DON'T win with a $140 million dollar payroll, they should kill themselves. Major League Baseball is fucked up. Following it is gay.

I can still play at almost 40. Love the game, hate the HGH, steroids, frauduent records and Red Sox and Yankees bullshit. Salary cap fucks them up. They can spend irresponsibly, but don't win every year. Shows me they suck dicks. If Billy Beane from the A's had that payroll that witch would kill the Sux and the Yuckies.

Get a fucking life.

The Kansas City Royals were amazing when I was a kid. They can't possibly compete now.

Yeah, Go Sox, my smelly nutsack. Don't you like the traitor Colts as well?????? :? Front runner.'ll at least give the Dolts props for competing on a level playing field despite a STOLEN name. (Go ask the Browns fans who kept their name, and are absolute hoodlums) Your moron city WANTED the name Colts because you fucking ass clowns couldn't create your own identity. FUCK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great team, stolen logo. I'd root for them otherwise.

Baseball is fucked up and ridiculous. Go steroids, and unlimited spending!!!!!!!!

Oh, and God bless the Sox. Jesus blessed them with $140 million you fucking hypocrite.

Any artist either singer or movie star that says they are doing it for the fans are lying. Sure some are more honest about their feelings, and their is nothing wrong with it. DDY said he was in it to make money, and they all are, they just happen to give the fans something they like-ERIC
