Thanks for the tip -- I'll have to check them out!

I played in a band with John Schlitt's brother Jeff for several years. He sings a lot like John and plays a mean keyboard. He probably could have taken over for John as Head East's lead vocalist, but I guess there were some issues that prevented Jeff from having any interest. Jeff played in a band called Johnny, which was John's band post-Head East and pre-Petra.

John Schlitt has always been one of my favorite vocalists, right next to Steve Perry in my book. He did some great solo stuff on an effort called "Shake" that sounded similar to old school Head East in their heyday. But alas, John will only sing Christian music - so Journey is out of reach.

I wish I could find some YouTube links to some old Head East songs such as Dance Away Lover. That song really shows John's range. I have it on CD, but no (legal) way of posting it for you to hear.

Check John out on this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o71-KBT7BuU

That's absolute nonsense. You must be tone deaf.

This was live a couple of years ago. Not bad for a 57-year-old dude. I'll say it again, one of the best EVER. Very much underrated because he is a Christian artist rather than secular. What a shame his talent hasn't been exposed to the big stage.

Oh yeah, I forgot...since Petra is retired, John is selling real estate in Nashville right now.

Here's another one from the most musically-talented real estate agent in Tennessee.

[/quote] I tune pianos for a living,i am not tone deaf, and he is on key for sure,it is his tone,{the sound of his voice} that annoeys me, I do like Rush though. If he would sing a Journey song, I would puke. Then again no one could sing for Rush Like him.

Just a heads up... John is not retired, just retired from Petra the "rock" band. He and Bob Hartman [Petra guitarist] are still playing together doing acoustic shows and put out a new album called "Two guys from Petra" last year. His new solo album is also almost ready to be released. Just thought I'd pass the info on since not too many people probably know about this since he's a Christian singer.

On a side note, I have met John on a couple occassions. He is one great guy and a pleasure to talk to.

Thanks for the info! I didn't realize they had already done something. I e-mailed Bob over a year ago and he responded, saying that he and John intended to work together again. I'll have to look for it!
