Nothing a server upgrade would not fix. I am awaiting quotes.

This was being discussed elsewhere. I think SG mentioned that it's strange all of a sudden the chat board server needs an upgrade. It has been running like a champ for a long time, then it starts hiccuping. There hasn't been a whole hell of a lot of more traffic. It ran better than this when the JSS news broke and BT closed. There were a ton of people on it. We were just concerned that someone might be trying to fleece Andrew. It was also mentioned that there are plenty of hosting sites around if someone is trying to pull a fast one on Drew.

That's what I'm thinking also. I get errors then when I am able to slip in. I see 4 members logged in. Back when the JSS thing broke there'd be over a dozen or so. Somethings fishy!!! :D

The server has been hammered for MONTHS!

The upgrade was needed 12 months back and still hasn't been done. It is wearing out....

Hey, Andrew -

What is wearing out -- is a component going defective (hard drive or network card)? Do you own the server, or does someone host the board for you? It doesn't sound like traffic is the issue, and if not, you may be able to spot-fix the problem without having to replace the entire thing.

I need more memory apparently as the number of SQL requests are driving the server into overload....checking into that currently.

But, some tweaking of the SQL settings was done today, so let me know if this has helped things in some way.

Agreed -- haven't had a hitch since they adjusted something. I'd hold off on any upgrades for now unless it gets rough again.

It's running great today. I'm wondering if when people download files from MRX for instance, that doesn't put too much strain on it. I don't know if you store the files for download on the server computer, but if you do, moving them elsewhere may reduce the bandwidth strain.

I have plenty of bandwidth...I pay ovr US$300 a month for it :)

It is the strain upon memory with all the SQL requests (this board etc...). Tweaking seems to have helped though.
