I like a lot of the AC/DC music, but struggle with the lyrics. I was at a San Diego Padre's game this summer and when pitcher Trevor Hoffman came in for relief, the PA started playing "Hell's Bells". Apparently that's the music that gets played when it's "Trevor Time". They never got to the lyrics, just started with the bells and the guitar intro. I still love that music...

It may help to know that "Highway to Hell" was written about a tour that the band was on at the time, not the real hell. If I recall correctly, the tour was so long and grueling that they referred to it as hell.

My son and husband are over there right now. I should have gone.

Now THERE is a group of people who are not in it for the money. Those kids work their tails off through heat, cold, day and night for months to perfect a show that lasts 15 minutes at most. The crowds are energetic and faithful, but usually pretty small. Some of the finest musicians on the planet, though.

I remember reading a while back that Brian Setzer of Stray Cats played the baritone in the marching band in high school. I wonder what other MR artists were in the marching band?

I spent 8 years through high school and college in the marching band. Traveled more than 50,000 miles, went to 4 Orange Bowls (3 of them for the national championship), and played for Ronald Reagan. I had a roomate puke in my bed and luggage at 0400 after a hard nite of drinking with the percussionists. He passed out in his own puke on the bed, leaving me to sleep for a couple of hours down at the pool with the only clean blanket left in the room, on a lawn chair, in the rain. And then we had to go to rehearsal and march at 0730.

I had the time of my life with 300 of my closest friends. Would not trade it for anything.

That's kind of what I thought. I, too, am a Christian, and frequently have difficulty reconciling my love of the music with the lyrics of many secular songs. I gave my life to Christ 20 years ago, but prior to that grew up listening to AC/DC, Journey, the Who, Zeppelin, etc. Love the music and still find myself singing along.

It's gets hard explaining to my kids in the car what AC/DC "Shook me all night long" means when they are used to hearing DC Talk or Chris Rice lyrics.

I frequently find myself feeling guilty listening to my classic AOR station, because the lyrics are not what I believe glorify God. But often I am addicted. Maybe I need to start an MR Anonymous group.

Back before I knew better I believed the hard-liners that teach that ALL rock music is Satanic, that they are all on drugs, etc., and I didn't listen to any secular music at all. I actually find a lot of spiritual meaning to a lot of songs that probably are not intended that way.

There are a few other albums by Christian artists that nearly made my list whose lyrics I love: the debut albums by Casting Crowns and Jars of Clay and other albums by Chris Rice, MercyMe, Wayne Watson, Keith Green, Guardian, Phil Keaggy, etc. There are lots more that I like as well. The problem I have with Christian music in general, though, is that it's even more trendy than secular music. It drives me insane because they ought to be taking the lead in innovation instead of following it.

Here is an interesting series of articles on the state of Christian Radio. I don't listen too much to it these days as most of the bands sound the same and a lot of the lyrics are pretty lame. Casting Crowns, Christ Rice, Mercy Me and early Michael W. Smith (with Wayne Fitzpatrick's lyrics) are some of my favorites.

Yeah, well, you can probably name one band who is going to state yet again. And it certainly DOESN'T help my attitude when a band who so royally screws up the left hand side of the field by being off AT LEAST four beats not only makes it to the finals, but is going to represent at state.
Yes Debbie, that purple and white crap is going to state with that mess. The boyo and company got fifth overall (from what I understand - he's not made it home yet).

that's way fun! I was such a band nerd that I got my degree in it and am actually now a professional band nerd. hehehehe. hey, someone's got to keep the insanity going.

I know that JSS played trumpet but I'm not sure about the marching stuff. Gary Schutt was a drummer. and Brian White (country guy) was a quad player. NS played the oboe for a while. Deen Castronovo was a big drumline guy.

Most of the lyrics I've seen for the song say "good's".

Was Kiss Alive the silver double lp? My aunt bought me that and Ace's solo lp for my first lp's. Still love New York Groove. I remember I had to hide them under the dresser so my dad wouldn' find them.

No. the silver album was (yet another) greatest hits album. The only "odd" thing with it was a slightly different version of "Strutter".
Ace's solo album is a hell of record !!
