The smokescreen and poker-playing comments remind me of the Journey saga back around 1991 when it was learned that SP is back in the studio ready to sing again, but only wanted to go solo (not with Journey). The Journey guys then got together with Kevin Chalifant (and Greg Rolie), saying they were going to re-form (with or without SP). Well, we know how it played out. SP did his solo thing and went back to Journey.--leaving poor Kevin out in the cold.

Now fast forward to this year. It has been confirmed that SP lost weight, practicing the scales, writing and going into the studio. Jeff gets fired for no good reason. They tried out Jeremey, then Arnel when there are dozens of more established and better known singers out there that would have been a better fit. Why, if not to force SP's hand?

The most likely scenario, my best guess, is that Neal & Jon realized it was a big mistake (after seeing the fan fallout) and asked Jeff back. They're going through with their original plans to record a new album and tour on it next year.

But IF it is SP, I'll be falling all over myself, abandoning my family and business, planning for the concert road trip.

Not happening.

Like he's going to let his hand or any other part of him be FORCED. I have no idea what's going on with this, other than wild rumors at this point, but I seriously doubt he sitting there going "well damn, they got me. I better do it." I don't know why, but he strikes me as the type who, whether he actually wants to do something or not, is going to tell the person trying to force him into anything to go fuck off.

Yeah, it worked - that tour was GREAT! Okay so they had an album. Then they told him to hurry up with his medical stuff, and he told them, more or less, to fuck off because he wasn't hurrying up for nothing. That's about it in a nutshell, isn't it? (depending on who you're willing to believe on that particular story, but hey....)

Nope. Dave always said it was inevitable.

Saw them last night. Very enjoyable.

Jeremey wrote:So Journey is either in the studio right now with Arnel Pineda or Steve Perry. Could there be any other cliffhanger to see what twist fate turns on? If it's Arnel, it's business as usual, and we go right back to the old bickering and bashing, but this time with race baiting thrown in for good measure. If it's Perry, there will be flowers, peace and light, and Journey fans can once again hold hands and sing Kum Ba Ya. Man, nothing against Arnel, but I'm sure hoping for the latter.

When Perry said that he had "no such plans whatsoever" to return to Journey back in June, that could have been his feeling at that time. They may have been talking but, at that point, Steve wasn't seeing the numbers he wanted and wasn't in a position to commit. They were too far apart and Steve thought it wasn't going to happen so, he squashed the rumors in order to have a peaceful summer. They bring in Jeremey and then Arnel as "plan-B's" (no offense to Jeremey or Arnel) while they continue to talk to Perry. Pictures surface with Arnel but, that could have simply been a scrapbook photo that got leaked. It has been months since we've heard anything official from Journey about anything even though Arnel has been rumored to be in the works for quite some time. If he was the guy, we should have heard by now. That also might explain why Jeremey got the whole "Steve Perry magic" thing from Neal and why he felt uneasy about the situation and followed his instincts and turned the deal down.

On many levels it all makes some sense. On the other hand...
Or, Steve was using that statement as a pawn to the Journey camp that they weren't in his ballpark yet. We'll have to wait and see, but when Steve made that comment back in the summer, I was a a little hesitant about it and for some reason read something between the lines. Maybe cuz I'm a loon. There are certainly a lot of unanswered questions, that's for sure. And I heard sometime back, right before they sacked JSS, that Azoff told them to either get Perry back or shut down shop.

True dat, but he did resurface. Maybe they auditioned Arnel just to make Perry think.... "Hey, I've got to save this from getting any worse." But after reading Lora's comments in the other thread, it all seems moot. FUCK!

Update from Kevin Shirley's website - http://www.cavemanproductions.com/cavediary.htm

______________ThursdayNovember1st2007San Francisco , CA

Up in San Francisco for a couple of weeks - it's foggy. Went for a bike ride along the bay - had flashbacks to working here with Steve Perry and the J-boys in 1996.

Check the year - 1996! No mention of Arrival...

It's funny - I originally took that to mean he had flashbacks of working with Steve Perry and the J-boys, but now I take that as the emphasis being on the year.

All of my wishes during my life-time have come true except for one...I have never seen Steve Perry live and that is my last wish before I die. Since I was born in the same decade as Mr. Perry, that doesn't leave me a whole lot of years, maybe 20 or so, but if he does sing it is now or never. As we get older our stamina certainly dwindles and so do our desires to continue to reach new goals. A last small mini-tour would a dream come true. I have had a happy life and this would be the icing on the cake, but not a necessity, however, I would pay anything and fly anywhere, guess the makes me a loon.
That would certainly be one huge party!!!!!!

I was fortunate to see SP with Journey in Miami in 1983. I was a teenager and didnt realize the magnitude of what was before me but I sure do now.

Well, I'm not believing it, either, but if they were trying to get together with Perry, I'm sure they'd be very tight-lipped about it. I wouldn't expect Lora to know anything.

Also...I'm sure the band would knock the head off of anyone that posted stuff on their blog that would start rumors like this. Especially someone that they were currently in the studio with.
