Do you have any insight into the whole Journey-in-the-studio-with-Shirley and Steve Perry-is-back-with-the-band comments that are starting to fly around?
Any help would be appreciated understanding, of course, that anything you might know would most likely be confidential. Feel free to be cryptic. You can trust us. We won't tell. It's just between us girls.![]()
Andrew doesn't know anything about SP returning to Journey because it isn't happening. Ever. Despite what a bunch of idiot djs are saying on their radio show. But, as always, I trust that people will ignore reality and believe what they wish.

The band's first show is in Feb. Arnel singing.

Then who is singing with Journey in the studio, as Cyndy confirmed in the Caveman Diary thread?
Could be no-one. Vocals could be added later...sadly.
Yeah...but why go in with Shirley? They could have done it without vocals with Elson or anyone else.
Its happening - finally! Well, maybe anyway! From Kevin Shirley -

Up in San Francisco for a couple of weeks - it's foggy. Went for a bike ride along the bay - had flashbacks to working here with Steve Perry and the J-boys in 1996.

bwaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahaha... I just had my own flashback. About, oh.... ten years ago, the band + SA came down hickville way before striking out for the big stuff. Oh joy..... This means my little hickville is ripe pickins for a trial run with the new guy.
Hopefully the one or two other bands will make it worth the ten dollar ticket (standard price down here in hickville - unless yer someone worthwhile like old Willie). Do we have any inkling of who the main ticket will be?

Granny wrote:I really do love Journey music...I'm sure Arnel will be whipped into shape, the accent will be gone, and I sure hope they hire a choreographer for him and add some personality otherwise I like his voice....don't throw stones, but he can sound like the VOICE, on occasion, but rarely.
All should work out, but I will only go and see them if I don't have to fly anywhere....and spend lots of hotel money.
Now Jeff was worth going anywhere to see that man on stage...there is more to a band than just someone standing up there singing the old catalog with a good voice...
Jeff Scott Soto had charisma,,,,,,Arnel has none!!!!!!!

Either that or Steppenwolf and Three Dog Night might be able to find an opening spot on the bill for their county fair tour.

I respectfully disagree and personally think Arnel comes across as being very likable and charismatic through the videos posted on YouTube. There is a certain charm and conviction in his performance. With that in mind I will add that JSS has a very dynamic stage presence and is the very epitome of a true rock star.
The access to video footage that the internet affords us can colour anyones view in negative ways as well as positive. For instance, if one was just relying on clips it might be fair to state that Jeff's hand raise, mic drop moves are a little too frequent for some people and might appear cliched. However, having seen Jeff perform live it becomes apparent that such things are a very small part of a balanced and extremely exciting live performance.
Hopefully the same thing will be said for Arnel when we have access to more than just three minute video snippets.

Nope... it will still amount to a bad cover band.
If you need to hear the "legacy" sound it is all there on a CD with the original and only Journey.
They better make the county fair tour ...but watch they'll go down like a .50 cent whore ..Voyager wrote:ProgRocker53 wrote:Journey will open for Kansas and Bachman Turner Overdrive.

Hey I'd pay to see Gordon Lightfoot, but I'll wait until the opening act is over to go in.

Didn't Gordon Lightfoot die in a plane crash back in the 70s?
Never mind. He's alive. Well, a lot of them died that way in the 70s.
EightyRock wrote:I personally don't care who they hire, at this point. Arnel may or may not sound good. He may or may not be able to sing the dirty dozen. As far as him "sounding like Steve Perry".....PLEASE.....Fro thinks everyone he hires sounds like Perry. Only Perry sounds like Perry.
Journey fans hoped for a new direction (and a different sounding voice) with Soto. It wasn't "Perry" enough for the band, so now they think Arnel is their next clone. This money grab via Perry's sound year after year is old....and so are THEY. If they played across the street from me and it was free, I would not go. Classic DVD's & CD's are the only Journey worth anything to me now. Even that is somewhat spoiled by all the shit Frig and Fro have dumped on fans for ten years now.
