We found Steve Perry's video location!

Postby *Laura » Fri Nov 02, 2007 9:48 pm

It was like finding the Holy Grail!
I'm talking about the Park Plaza Hotel - the place where 23 years ago Steve Perry filmed the video for "Oh Sherrie"!

Couple of weeks back,Kate and I decided to find the place. We knew it was somewhere in LA.
Despite the fact that someone told Kate that the hotel was tore down years ago,she didn't believe it.So we drove around for about an hour trying to locate it....Just when we thought that maybe it really wasn't around anymore,Kate makes a right turn on this street (forgot which one) and...lo and behold!there it was, right in front of us in all it's splendor!

Walking into the hotel was surreal...We froze in the middle of that familiar lobby.Everything was the same, just like 2 decades ago.Nothing was changed - the carpets, the stairs, that fence up above,it was all there!
First thing I did was to sit down on the stairs...LOL.Had the feeling I was dreaming...The video was "playing" in the back of my mind and I was sitting in the middle of the setting...for real! Eerie.

We started taking pics, touched the walls, the stairs, the fence... Then we noticed that a few limos pulled in front of the hotel and a wedding ceremony was about to begin!! OMG.Just like in the video!
Now THAT was weird!! The only thing missing were the trumpets and Steve Perry dressed up as the King!

It was a lot of fun.Great memories of a great era...
So glad that the hotel is still there, untouched. 8)

Those pictures are great and the shots are so relevant to that video. You girls are great to go the extra mile and for bringing them for all to see.

OMG, that is freakin amazing! How did you figure out it was the Park Plaza? That is pretty exciting..... A friend of mine and I took a similar trip through the Central Valley this past summer visiting all the SP Historical landmarks, Angels Camp, Hanford, Lemoore. It was so much fun.......we even got a picture in front of the bandroom at Lemoore High School where the whole thing started.

YEP, I'm a certifiably insane loon. Thanks for the pictures.

Nora, I gotta tell ya, we sat on those steps, and kept sayin' Holy Shit... The viewpoints, all of it, came back in a flash like it was happening in front of us.

That's pretty neat...maybe, one day I'll drive over & take pics before it disappears like all the great landmarks here. I've been wanting to see the Art Deco Union Station for years - that's in a lot of movies/t.v. shows.

Several years ago, it came up as a topic of discussion on a board. A few people came up with their thoughts on where it was, and there were more than a few that said it was the Park Plaza. Personally, I'd never heard of it.

For the record, it's on the west side of MacArthur Park, above Wilshire. Go. Enjoy. It's very much worth the trip.
