What would it take for you to pay to see Journey again?

Postby Voyager » Sat Nov 03, 2007 8:25 am

What would it take for you to pay to see Journey again? Would you pay to see Journey with Singer #4, are you holding out for Steve Perry, or are you done with them altogether?

Personally, I am holding out for Steve Perry. I saw them with Perry, Augeri, and Soto, but I can't see paying to see a fourth vocalist. However, I would pay dearly to see Journey with Steve Perry - probably multiple times.

Steve Perry ONLY. BUT...since that ain't happening...I guess I'm just done with 'em.

EDIT:Obviously if Jeff came back I'd pay to see 'em...but that doesn't look like an option since the Journey organization is run by a bunch of dumbfucks.

I selected that I'd pay to see them with #4 or Perry. That, provided #4 is Jeremey. I'd pay to see them with Jeff, Jeremey or Perry. I'm not interested otherwise.

LOL! The only band I have paid to see multiple times on the same tour was The Police. I saw them in Vegas, L.A. (Dodger's Stadium), and Saint Louis this year. I would have gone to more of their shows if possible. They fucking rocked! However, seeing Journey with Steve Perry in the 80's was the only concert I have seen that sent chills up my spine. It was unbelievable. He didn't get nicknamed "The Voice" for nothing.

Jeremey would be the only possibility for me too, but since that didn't work out, I didn't consider it an option.

At this point Perry or the journey is over for me...Arnel is said to be fronting the band, first show in Feb.

I am done, Journey is a cheap lounge act.

What would it take?

Neal Schon on guitar.

Yeah, but when was the last time you saw Journey? I think it's been a while since they played in London. If you were in the USA, you would probably be like many of us who have seen Journey multiple times in the past few years. Most of us, based on the above poll, are starting to get weirded-out by seeing Journey with a new lead singer on every tour and we have decided that enough is enough. Personally, I would much rather spend a night watching my Journey Live In Houston 1981 DVD with a few friends than I would going to see Journey open up for Three Dog Night at the local county fair with their 4th lead singer.

I'd pay to see them if they did a concept album about Fantasy Island, and Neal Schon played "Tattoo" and yelled "The plane boss, the plane......" to open the show.

Short of that, not spending dime one on those losers.

I saw Journey in Edinburgh with Augeri in 2006 and they were shit. Then I saw them in London in March with JSS this year and they were great. Who knows how they'll be in 2008...but it doesn't follow that just because it'll be singer number 4 the band will have suffered terribly. After all, singer 3 gave them a huge shot in the arm. So replacing singers isn't bad in and of itself.

Sure - Journey can never touch the '81 show...of course not...but I can watch that any time I like. But seeing Schon play live is always a real thrill, I reckon....and well worth the price of a meal at a half-decent restaurant.

And if you could get over being weirded out by the absence of Perry then you ought to be able to get over anything the band does.

A lot of people feel the same way about Eddie Van Halen, but that didn't help ticket sales when they hired singer #3 (Gary Cherone). The only reason Journey sold a lot of tickets with singer #3 (JSS who was unknown to most fans) was because they opened up for Def Leppard who is still on singer #1.

Will most fans pay to see Journey with singer #4? I think that will completely depend on who they are opening for. If they are planning to headline a tour, I think ticket sales will be a disaster. For that reason, I don't think any concert promoters will allow them to headline. They will end up opening for a popular headliner.

The Cherone-fronted Van Halen failed to live up to the album and ticket sales of the band's previous incarnations with founding singer David Lee Roth and Roth's replacement, Sammy Hagar.

''Van Halen III,'' the only album the band has released with Cherone behind the mike, was certified gold (500,000 units shipped to retailers). All of Van Halen's previous album releases have gone at least double-platinum (2 million copies shipped). The 1998 tour in support of ''III,'' which often played to half-filled houses, proved to be a box-office disappointment compared to the band's traditionally sold-out road ventures.

The music news will probably read very similar to this if Journey attempts to headline in 2008 with singer #4:

The Pineda-fronted Journey failed to live up to the album and ticket sales of the band's previous incarnations with founding singer Steve Perry and Perry's replacement, Steve Augeri. The 2008 tour in support of Journey's new album, which often played to half-filled houses, proved to be a box-office disappointment compared to the band's traditionally sold-out road ventures with former frontman Steve Perry.

History has a way of repeating itself.

Steve Perry is no fool of man...for whatever reason, and there are many, HE CHOOSES not to sing publicly.
Get over it folks, maybe someday he will get the urge to produce some new material in whatever key he wants to sing..
Could be baritone for all I care, cuz it will still sound like him.

Yes, NS, would have to get on his knees and that still wouldn't help.
Steve doesn't need Journey, they need him.
Also, I love Journey music live, and I would go see the new singer one time and only if it was close to home.
Saving my money for Jeff Scoot Soto's next USA tour. That will be a flying trip again. Maybe California and see all my friends there.

Journey gets one chance only!!!!!!!!!

Amen to that!!!

For me it would really depend on the price of the ticket. I shelled out quite a bit to see them with Augeri... then he became ill and we got to see Jeff instead (I love you Steve but Jeff was BRILLIANT!!!!).

It's clear that we're never going to see Perry, Augeri, or Soto singing lead again so no way am I paying triple digits for singer #4.
He'd have to be at Soto's level of performing or higher (good luck!!!)
.... or Michael Sweet. 8)

The only way I ever will see Journey is with Perry or Jeff. They had the stage on fire with their personalities. I don't care who they open for ,I will not open my wallet ever again.

The ONLY way that I would go see them is with Perry at the helm.

Look for that to happen by 2010/2011.

They will get inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame within the next year or two.

When this happens look for the final Journey tour ever ( ala The Police).

This tour will take place between 2010 -2012

P.S. The tour with Sammy at the helm is about to happen.

2012 is too late,I think according to the Aztecs. Anyway, if not by 2008 ,it is probably never goning to happen. Perry is not going to run around the stage @ 62-63. Mick and Tyler will still roll on.

Perry Only!

Postby annie89509 » Sun Nov 04, 2007 5:55 pm

I only became a Journey fan 2-1/2 yrs. ago when I watched and heard SP sing those 2 lines on the We Are The World 20th Anniv. dvd. The whole Journey saga fascinates me, and I have become a fan for life. Although I like his solo efforts, there is something about a Journey song that gets the heart pumping. It is only Journey w/SP for me though, so :( I guess I will never get to go to a Journey concert.
