Journey to Tour with Perry in 2008 - FALSE!!!!!!!

Will he or won't he? Stranger things have happened. My conundrum is whether to draw up the contract between my ex and I. I would definitely have to go to him for assistance to even THINK of attending a reunion of this magnitude. And I KNOW what my end of the bargain would entail. ::::shiver::::

Steve's either got to shit or get off and far, far away from the pot and announce it to the universe.... ASAP. I have to prepare myself for this self sacrifice in the event it does happen and all this speculation will drive me to the grave before the year (this one, the next, the next and so on) is out.

Or would anyone here volunteer to be my sugar friend and offer to get me to a possible show?

You have a great night. Wyatt is fine, thanks for asking.

You don't have to look for sympathy 'cause its already here from everyone. You're going through one of the worst things that can happen. I've been there so know what it feels like. I also know you and your family will make it.

But you're right, it reminds us how pointless arguing over a "has been" band is.

So when Perry returns to Journey you will get naked and run?Wow...Talking about 2 dreams coming true!

Well, this must've been one of the most well debated reunion rumors in a long time.
It's not a crime to want Steve Perry back in Journey.
I guess that any true Journey fan would be thrilled to see the classic incarnation of the band coming to life again.
Many of the things that happened lately in the J-camp were unusual,so perhaps that's why a rumor like this made most of the fans think that maybe that's what was going on behind closed doors.
It was a nice dream while it lasted.

Congrats to Arnel for getting the job.He truly is a great singer. He may not be accepted by a part of the fanbase, but I think that Journey are willing to take the risk exactly because Arnel is really good. They trust his singing skills,no doubt about it.
However, business wise, only time will tell if this new line-up will be succesful. It's going to be interesting to watch.

I agree with everything you said except for the well-wishing to Arnel. I actually feel sorry for him, and for the fans. This is just not the right time for another Steve Perry impersonator to be used up and then disposed of. Frigga and Fro are obviously totally disconnected from their fanbase. They just don't get it.

Steve Augeri obviously became the puppet that Frigga and Fro wanted until he trashed his voice, then they threw him away like a used-up disposable Bic lighter. Then JSS was kind enough to save their asses, but since he wasn't the puppet-type, they gave him his walking papers. Now they obviously have someone that they can order around again, and that feels good to them. However, most of their true fans have had enough of this bullshit, and will just have to suffice on their CD's and DVD's of days gone by.

As much as I would like to see Steve Perry back in Journey, I don't know if I want to see him be subjected to the Frigga and Fro machine again. That's probably the very reason he has never come back to the band. Who can blame him? He took the high road, and his legacy has been preserved forever.

Well said, that pretty much somes it up as far Journey are concerned. It makes me mad thinking about it, it's so true though. Can't argue with that.

So when was the last time this band actually had a hit? or close, serious question.

Can someone please link me to where Lora denied this? I haven't been able to find it, or perhaps I passed over it. I did see where Cyndy confirmed that Kevin Shirley was indeed working in San Francisco with Journey.

Andrew, do you have a source for your statement that it's untrue?

This news is very exciting to me (as a loon). I'm hopeful, but won't 'get my knickers in a bunch' if it doesn't happen. As I said, I am ambivalent about even wanting SP with Journey, given the recent state of affairs. I'd just love to see him perform, sometime, somewhere.

They said he was in Nashville, and it was with 'original band members'. Maybe he's gonna sing with Scrap Metal. Steve Perry and Eric Martin... WOW! Would that prompt another visit to the states, Deb????

If it's Perry, there will be flowers, peace and light, and Journey fans can once again hold hands and sing Kum Ba Ya. Man, nothing against Arnel, but I'm sure hoping for the latter.

Bingo Jeremey! See, its happening already...lol

My opinion may not matter but here it is...We all love Journey's music one way or the other....everyone will go buy a concert ticket next year just to check it out as I have stated before...this is a band a lot of people grew up with...and more people than ever are turned on to them.

Deano was also right about this being a 5 piece band..this is a unit....Its Journey with whoever is singing vocals..

We all love Journey deep down!

Last night at our watering hole, without my saying so or egging on, college kids were screaming in unision for the local 80's band to sing Journey. The kids got what they wanted as the band sang Lovin You is Easy, Stone in Love, Send Her My Love, Separate Ways, Lights and DSB. My fiancee and I were lookin at each other that this was too good to be true.

Anyhow, long story short, Journey is still one smokin band! The music is timeless and it will always be. Long live Journey!

That's pretty spot-on. Journey will sell just as many concert tickets with Arnel (if he's the guy) as they sold with Augeri or Jeff. The majority of people going to those shows want to hear Journey tunes and as long as they have an adequate singer, they will be fine. I will check them out with whoever their next singer is just as I did with Augeri & Jeff. Didn't care for the Augeri line-up so I only saw a couple of shows. LOVED the Jeff line-up so I saw several shows. I will always be a fan of Neal Schon, the musician, regardless of the choices he makes as a person. And I will always love Journey-past, the music they made and memories they gave me.

As of today, given the choices we have been discussing, I can say unequivolently that I will NOT be buying a concert ticket next year for anyone other than SP. Of course, we don't all have the history with the others that you have, Lora, so I kinda understand where you're coming from.

I don't necessarily agree that it's "Journey" with whoever is singing vocals. I think that belittle's SP's contribution and influence on them as a group. No one really knows how successful they would've been in the 70's & 80's with another singer, but I think we can all agree that SP, the voice, did make an incredible impact on the genre that became wildly popular, known as arena rock, corporate rock, etc.

Of course I'm a 'loon' so I'm supposed to say that. It's in the contract...

I have to disagree. I think you will see a huge amount of empty seats at the next Journey show with Arnel singing; that is, unless they open up for a really popular headliner. However, with Journey being on their 4th lead singer, I think a lot of popular headliners will give them the cold shoulder and stay away from them. It's just too fucking weired having a different lead singer every tour. It reminds me too much of a karaoke bar.

Of course it's not to you and me, and it never will be. I don't expect it to be. When I go to see Journey now it is like going to see any other band that I have a casual interest in. For me there is only one Steve Perry and I'm just glad I was able to see as many shows as I did with Steve and Neal together on stage making their magic.

If this ever turned out out to be true, I'll follow Andrew and run naked across the freeway too.

It's not happening. This is a sad and sorry but exact repeat of what happened in June.
Some ill-informed DJ went running off at the mouth and the next thing you know, everyone is looking for the conspiracy, the great plot, the DaVinci Code... or rather, the DaJourney Code. What are they doing and why and what's with the silence and Perry is secretly getting his voice in shape... OY!

And all the silence is exactly what should be proving that this IS false. Don't you guys think IF such a thing were true they would WANT it out there? There is no money to be made and no attention to be gained by keeping something so major under wraps for so long. They would have to be the crappiest business men on earth to keep something like that under wraps, especially sicne it's the one thing that could curb, dare I say end, all the overwhelming negativity that the events of 2007 have brought to this band. The Sopranos/DSB gravy train has ended. Couldn't ride that forever. Yeah they had a good run and generated sales in June and July thanks to that, but that's long over so it's either strike while the iron is hot, especially for an aging band that hasn't done anything but a greatest hits tour lately, or fuggetabottit.

They didn't strike because there's nothing to strike with. But what am I arguing it for...
People don't even believe it when Perry himself says it, so what the fuck's the point.

In all honesty, it felt that way to me, with JSS was announced...to me, it was like 'WTF are they smoking, this SO cheapens this'....Only after JSS had been singing with theband for about 9 months, did I see what he brought and decided to change my mind....

but really, any band that can't do it with a second singer, needs to forget about trying to pull it off with a third.....because the singer is NOT the problem.

In this case, really....adding a 4th singer just turns it into shit....crap...a pure cheapened whoring out of the fanbase. Never mind the fact that the new singer has zero stage presence, sings with bad diction and is an obvious attempt to fool the fan base like never before.

I wish someone close to the band would tell them to either insert Perry back into this circus (if he's even willing and there are some significantly in-the-know folk here that have said thats impossible) or just fucking pack it up.

They didn't crack the stone.....they ground it into fine dust...

fuck this band and all those that still support it.

This is the attitude that the majority (75%) of Journey fans seem to have about the fourth singer replacement. If you think this pessimism about the state of Journey is just limited to the members of this forum who are/were for the most part all hardcore Journey fans, think again. Check this thread out:

Well, another Steve Perry rumor fades into the sunset. :(

You know, this was a very special band. I mean, out of all the music I have (and I have a very eclectic collection of music,) the Journey records have always been the ones I have never gotten tired of listening to. Steve Perry's voice was always in a class all by itself. Neal Schon's guitar playing made the band have some muscle, and I still believe he is badly underrated as a musician. Jonathan Cain's writing made Journey very special. Ross and Smitty's rhythm section was also priceless. Guys and gals, this truly was one of the best collection of musicians that we have ever had the pleasure to listen to. It is such a shame that these guys cannot bury the past, but it is what it is.

I do think Journey, Neal, Jon, Ross, and Deen are more than good enough to go on and entertain their fans with whoever they get to sing the classics. So, if a fan wanted to see them live, they would probably put on a good show. Nothing like what they did with Jeff though. I do believe that was special...almost as special as having Perry back in the band. As for putting out new music, well, I think they would've been great with Jeff or Jeremey. I believe that because I have Jeff's stuff and he writes some great music. While I have only listened to a couple of tracks from Jeremey, I DO think Journey would've been as close to the Perry sound as one could get. With Arnel, well, it is one of those have to wait and see type of deals. I'm not putting a lot of stock in this version of Journey, but if I'm wrong then I'm wrong. I have said that Journey is pretty much dead to me now. I do wish them success though. I don't believe they will ever be that special band they once were with Steve Perry, but we'll see. I think they could've been darn near close with Jeff Scott Soto.

At least I have Jeremey and his Frontiers band close by for me to experience Journey live!

I understand what you're saying Lora and to me that's one of the saddest things about what's happened to Journey. They just keep selling tickets and paying their bills on the songs that Steve made with them.

They will never be MY Journey to me without Steve Perry.

Augeri was watered down Journey to me. He may have been good at what he could do, but he just couldn't do Journey to suit me.

I was excited about Journey with Jeff because he was bringing a different dimension to the music and I liked it a lot. It was almost like seeing another band that I liked doing songs that I loved. I'll remain a fan of Jeff's because I met him through Journey.

I would have stuck with them for Jeremey if he had gotten the job because I'm a fan of Jeremey. I think given the opportunity he could have brought his own dimension to the band.

I'm not the least bit interested in any other singer who's trying to replicate the original sound. I have no interest in, in fact I feel insulted by the idea of, any other singer rerecording the hits. I can listen to Steve Perry sing them on CD whenever I choose, so why in the hell would I want to buy a CD of someone else singing them? I really can't understand why Neal is so hell bent on this. It has to be because he thinks it will make the songs belong to him(being in his mind the personification of Journey  ) rather than to Steve Perry (as Charlize Theron and the White Sox have proven that they do in the minds of the masses).

I won't buy a ticket to any show just because the name of the band is Journey. If I want to hear another singer sing the hits live I much prefer Jeremey with Frontiers.

Last night in a thread that was closed when I came on here today I said something about not caring who was playing guitar. Some of my friends took that to mean that I didn't think Neal was an amazing guitar player. That's not what I meant. I know how talented he is. What I was saying is that the guitar playing isn't nearly as important to me as the vocals. I'll take an adequate guitar player with a fabulous vocalists any day over a fabulous guitar player with an adequate vocalist. That's why Augeri didn't impress me. Image

Awesome post, Lora!!!

I think Arnel is the guy and that's fine with me, he's a great singer and a professional who's been in the biz for several years with a record deal and so has the experience to go with all this.

Sometime I wish I was a distant fan who didn't even know SP was gone, much less about all the other crap-o-la. LOL

Yea settle for another copycat singer thats fine with you.
Fact is this is the last time Steve Perry will get the chance to close the JRNY book forever
If he passes this chance then he is short changing himself and his fans
To just quit the buisness and never come back is really pretty sad,
This guy was the king and now he has just faded away.

There are ways to get rid of a hoarse voice and Perry needs to do it.
As said before if its anyone but Perry then this game is over.
