i laugh everytime this comes up. the perry fanatics just rip neal and jon. i remember when steve a joined, it was everywhere this guy sucks, its not journey. but they continued to tour quite successfully, then when he couldnt do it any more and jeff joined a lot of the posts ripped him for being a presence, now hes a god because of it. as for past sales compare arrival to ftlosm for a more accurate comparison. then everybody rips them as a fair circuit band, the fairs pay the same ass the sheds so why not play there. steve hadnt done anything since ftlosm and wont because he cant, the only way to do its is with tapes, oops i know you all are against tapes. as for jeff the soul circus cd didnt exactly light the world on fire. journey will continue as long as neal wants and will do good numbers in sheds because 95% of the people there dont know its not steve perry and dont care just go or dont go neals guitar was just as big as steves voice(remember "i just didnt feel part of the band" i guess not since you fired steve and ross)escape could come out right now and not go gold. the vacations over tour was the best because it rocked, if perry comes back i ll go and listen to why cant this night go on foreverand the girl cant help it and enjoy it or if they get someone else i go and it will rock
neal schon forever

Good post Sniper, enjoyed the read.

One question about your last line. Have you met Perry? If not how do you know that? (I'm not contradicting, just curious).

I met him a year and a half ago and definately didn't think he was a dick in person, by any stretch. He was real down to earth, charming and funny. He seemed pretty happy and content. Before you say anything (JoePa) YES, if he was an asshole, I would have been disappointed and say so. I have no idea what he was like back in the height of the Journey circus. Maybe he wasn't easy to work with, being a perfectist, who knows. All I know is "dick" is the last word I would use to describe him now.

I'll give you that one. Happily. On a silver platter.

That song didn't need to be remade. It was fine the way it was and it SHOULD have been on the original TBF.
The Journey version blows it out of the water and the reason can be crunched into two words. Steve Smith.

That is COMPLETE bullshit. At their height, Steve Perry was clearly the "star" and Neal didn't have ANY problem with it. The only thing Neal has ever been guilty of is being a workaholic and having to try to steer the Journey ship when Steve Perry left at a moment's notice...several times.

Thanks for the quick resp. I've actually heard much worse than that. Probably his delivery in refusal is what you're referring to.

Was his demeanor the same in '81 and '83? Also though, once you said "mostly for Neal", I'd be surprised if he signed anything more for anybody.

*ROFL* Excellent point!! Although, I have a relative who met Journey at the beginning of the height... DSB had just become huge and Escape was #1 on the charts -- and this was NOT in a fan situation, no fans around, no one really to impress... and I specifically asked if Perry was a dick (cuz I've heard stuff...). I'm told no, he was extremely cool. Then again, that was 1981. Maybe he's all old and surly and grumpy now - I have no idea.

Did anyone try to contact the radio station that started the rumor?

Would be interesting to hear their response.

Let's assume for a minute we know Perry can sing (had surgery whatever suits your fancy), what do you think it would take to get Perry back in Journey? Public apology from Neal and Jon? Larger piece of the pie? Complete control of everything Journey? Small tour or one-off venue? Serious backing from corporate entities? Major record label? Agreement to retire Journey afterwards? Can someone make a poll? I don't know how.

I personally think it would probably take all of the above mentioned along with a few we don't know about. But it's been in my mind all along that the biggest stipulation for Perry would be that they retire the Journey name afterward.

But..............that would all take place after hell froze over.

"as long as they have to carry DSB as their banner, it looks like Perry will be right there with them as an overseer, ready to wield his veto power on all things Classic Journey." As quoted by Don on 12/7/2010

It would take Dr. Evil implanting a (big quotation marks with fingers now) "MIND-CONTROL" device in his brain. With it, Perry could sing for Journey again, dazzling the masses, as Dr. Evil completes his plan for world domination.

ain't happenin'....

And then we'll put a giant (quotation fingers) "LASER-BEAM" on his forehead.

PS... was driving around town earlier listening to 97.3 out of somewhere in NC and the DJ came on and said "Guess who is reuniting next summer?!" And cued Separate Ways. Something's going on out there... who knows.

1.) Not talking to myself. Merely speaking in allegory again.
2.) Did NOT steal your cigarettes. However, Liam stole mine.
3.) Love you too, but let's not hijack this into a lebanese love fest, mmkay?
