I absolutely despise what Journey has become..but if you honestly believe that there is not a legion of fans that have no idea what the day to day drama with x vocalist, or x tribute band singer is...you quite possibly could be dumbest human alive. They don't care. If it says Journey...they will be there. I'm not saying they will enjoy it as much as they would with an SP type lineup..but they will be there because it has the Journey name. End of conversation. People don't care for the most part...they are living their lives and love the music because they either grew up with it, or it played a part in their lives in some capacity. Most of my friends have no idea that SA even left the band and still to this day think SP may eventually get back together with the band. But if Journey books a show in our city...every single one of them will go..because they just want to hear the music. Lead singer be damned.

[/quote]

Okay, I posted this on another site. Purely out of curiosity, I ran this informal poll the first weekend of November. The people attending were from all over the US and as memory serves, listened to a very broad range of music during our high school days.

"On the subject of a percentage of casual fans not realizing Perry is gone.... I ran a little research at my reunion this weekend (and yes, they all thought I was completely BONKERS). Out of 220 attendees, ONE did not know Perry was no longer with the band. Twenty did not know that Augeri was no longer with the band. The majority had no idea the band had picked up Jeff (nor did they know his background - they do now) and subsequently dropped him. When asked if they would attend a concert with a new singer (I did not mention who the new singer seemed to be), better than 90% said they would most likely pass. When asked why, they simply stated that concert going was simply outside the realm of what they do in their lives now. At which point I just had to ask if they would go to one of the new VH concerts if it comes near them. @@ Ten already have and about forty of them have tickets and will be going. The others said they would definitely go. I don't get the difference!!!! "

Taking the above at face value, the difference is a bit glaring. As it was a reunion weekend, I didn't quite have the time to find out how all the attendees knew the things they knew about the band, but it was obvious I was the only one keeping up as I do in a forum such as this. Yes, while there probably is a VERY large percentage of citizens that are my age and up who don't have a clue as to what has happened (just the changes - not the dirt) with singers in this band... there is also a surprising knowledge amongst the unwashed masses. Whether the band will receive support on a broad spectrum or not will only be seen after the first few concerts (if they happen) stateside.

Are you perfect? Have you never had things go "south" in your life?

Yes, suicide is lame but, why do you have to make a joke out of it? Alot of people are hurting over what happened to Brad.

Think about it.

Listen you twit. You remind me of someone who sits around trying to pattern his life after someone else (who also used to sit around and pick fights on this board) because you think it'll make you relevent or cool or popular.

Guess what?

It doesn't. It only makes you look like the shriveled-up penis head you are.

Turn over a new leaf will ya? You bore me and I'm sure others on here.

texafana wrote:"All they care about is touring and making an easy buck." Easy? C'mon...touring is NOT easy for these near 60 year olds. And you can tell when Neal gets pissed off at his sound tech when his guitar tone is crappy that he CARES about his performance. And they HAVE done more than just tour with the hits. They DID put out new material, several times. If they didn't put out any new material I might agree with you in limited form, but at their heart they are first and foremost musicians, and they love performing. You can see it in their eyes, emotions when they perform live. They are not just sitting there going through the motions. They get into it, sweat their ass off, play emotional solos, etc, etc. Easy buck? No way dude....no way.

I somewhat disagree with you on this one. I was in Baltimore, exactly one year ago today, for my first Journey concert with JSS on lead. They all KICKED MAJOR ASS!!! The Pompano Beach show in February was probably the best one I've seen (I've seen 5 over the years). Fast forward to May. I had invited a high school friend of mine to the show (he was the ultimate Journey fan in the 80's). I was almost embarrassed to have bragged so much about them. I had a bad feeling about the show. It wasn't something I could put my finger on at the time, but I was a little less than impressed. The separation of each of the members on the stage was unsettling. Of course, a few weeks later I learned why. There was a 500 pound gorilla on stage with them. They had been in the process of screwing Jeff over, even as he was pouring his heart out for them. How sad.

Going through the motions? Yeah, that's exactly what it was. Jon Cain said it himself shortly thereafter with his "we want to sound like the 65 million units out there" comment. They don't want to work for it. They think we'll just keep coming back for more, like the brain-dead twits they think we are. Sorry... not interested.

However, one final comment. We here at MR, the Annex, TBJF, and some of the other forums may be but a small fraction of people who attend concerts. But, we are the ones sharing this music (and the bullshit that they are pulling) with the "average, everyday fan". My children and co-workers have been exposed, who expose their friends, and who become the newest fans (or not). We ARE the future of these bands, like it or not. As the die-hard fans, we have every right to express our satisfaction or dissatisfaction with their behavior.

How do you guys do it? I barely have enough time to log in to MR to see what the latest skirmish is.

Heard about the Annex way back, maybe even joined, don't remember but for me MR is all I need.

I get caught up on the MR world, see who the singer du "Jour" is, a couple posts and I'm out.

Funny how you can totally attack and offend people on here and use the IDENTICAL language as I did and somehow you are defended by others.

Weird and unfair to say the least.

BTW, you started this whole thing by your totally perverted, insensitive, comments relating to a suicide of a FANTASTIC, talented, and LOVING man...Brad Delp. I tried to keep it "above board" but you and others decided to egg me on. You seem to take joy in belittling and bashing a guy who died a very sad and tragic death...regardless of whether you understand the reasons behind it.

It's so funny how people on here stick up for people even when they are being total assholes.

There IS help available for depression shit for brains. He chose not to seek it out and instead chose to end his life in probably one of the most ridiculous manners that I've heard in over 20 years in fire and EMS. I have seen lots of suicides in that time span and in 99.9% of these, the deceased chose not to seek help before deciding to "end it all".

Stop sounding like that little cock chugging faggot that was screaming about people bashing Britney Spears.

I get defended by friends because they know the real me and that I am a no nonsense individual that calls it like I see it.
Never once did I belittle the guys talent. There is no question about what Brad Delp was able to deliver musically. He simply chose a cowards solution to his problems and as a result of those actions, left scores of people wondering "why".

I'm sorry that your pathetic little life affords you so much time to grieve over someone you place on a pedestal.
