OT: Lyrics and Songs that affect you.

Postby Andrew » Fri Nov 09, 2007 2:27 pm

This is a song that remains very close to my heart for many reasons and still gets to me every time I listen to it.

No musical link and no artist (although some will guess I'm sure...)

Just read the lyrics - from someone I believe to be one of the great lyric writers and emotion conveyers of all time (but highly underrated):

==================================

I walk thru the streets of my old town
Trying to remember all the feelings
But the only feeling was that something
Sweet had come and gone for everyone
There's factories in the fields where
we used to run
There's a hard day coming for us
Daughters and sons
Wake up, some things had better change

[Chorus 1:]
Tear it all down and starting here and now
Let it all burn, so many souls in pain
Tear it all down, too many hearts in doubt
We're never gonna learn

All of the treasures we own
God bless the house, the car and the T.V.
They built us a prison without any locks
And meanwhile the men
who claim God on their side
Spit out their message and sell me a ride
While we look for idols inside a fashion magazine
Things are gonna change

[Chorus 2:]
Tear it all down and starting here and now
Let it all burn, so many souls in pain
Tear it all down, too many hearts in doubt
We're never gonna learn, there's a
wall to keep us in
Tear it all down, and walls to keep us out
Let it all burn, too many souls in pain
Tear it all down, too many hearts in doubt
We're never gonna learn

Lying naked here in the shrine of your embrace,
your embrace
We touch the burning cauldron to your
Angel face, angel face
I look at my boy as he sleeps
An innocent facing the lions
I wish there was some way I could talk
To my father again

There's a bomb in the schoolhouse
Wired to the face of the clock
In the face of disaster
We stand like a rock
You can't want you're children to pay
For your sins wake up
Some things are gonna change

Tear it all down, some things are gonna fall
Tear it all down, we can't go back again
Tear it all down, with backs against the wall
Tear it all down, There's a wall to keep us in
Tear it all down, There's a wall to keep us out
Let it all burn, too many souls in pain
Tear it all down, too many hearts in doubt

[Chorus 2]

I had a theory about Rick Springfield and Journey. Could it be that "Still They Ride" is a sequel to "Jesse's Girl" after she left him for Rick, and he goes out to discover his roots?

Cue a sitcom.

Interesting. I couldn't quite figure out the interpretation. I used to watch RS on General Hospital and really followed him back in the day, but have lost track of what he's doing now.

There's a certain Journey song that affects Lula and I every time we hear it. I think you all know what it is.

Thank you Steve Perry; for EVERYTHING.

As of late there are a few songs that have touched me to my core. The obvious being "When I Think of You." After my mother passed I expected this song to be one I could relate to, didn't happen and the same goes for when my father passed. But, when we lost Trevor... boy, did it hit home. Another song that has become very powerful to me is "Heaven Knows (No Frontiers)" by the Corrs. Trevor's eyes were magical, so deep. There is much I can't explain, but I do believe in God and have found some days I actually have fleeting moments of peace. I did see Heaven in Trevor's eyes and have seen Trevor in Wyatt's eyes.

"Heaven Knows (No Frontiers)"

If life is a river and your heart is a boat
And just like a water baby, baby born to float
And if life is a wild wind that blows way on high
And your heart is Amelia dying to fly
Heaven knows no frontiers and I've seen heaven in your eyes

And if life is a bar room in which we must wait
'Round the man with his fingers on the ivory gates
Where we sing until dawn of our fears and our fates
And we stack all the dead men in self addressed crates

In your eyes faint as the singing of a lark
That somehow this black night
Feels warmer for the spark
Warmer for the spark
To hold us 'til the day
When fear will lose its grip
And heaven has its ways

Heaven knows no frontiers
And I've seen heaven in your eyes

If your life is a rough bed of brambles and nails
And your spirit's a slave to man's whips and man's jails

Where you thirst and you hunger for justice and right
And your heart is a pure flame of man's constant night

In your eyes faint as the singing of a lark
That somehow this black night
Feels warmer for the spark
Warmer for the spark
To hold us 'til the day when fear will lose its grip
And heaven has its ways
And heaven has its ways
When all will harmonise
And you know what's in our hearts
The dream will realise

Heaven knows no frontiers
And I've seen heaven in your eyes
Heaven knows no frontiers
And I've seen heaven in your eyes
Until we meet again, may God
Hold you in the palm of his hand.

Broken
The broken clock is a comfort, it helps me sleep tonight
Maybe it can stop tomorrow from stealing all my time
I am here still waiting though i still have my doubts
I am damaged at best, like you've already figured out

I'm falling apart, I'm barely breathing
With a broken heart that's still beating
In the pain, there is healing
In your name I find meaning
So I'm holdin' on, I'm holdin' on, I'm holdin' on
I'm barely holdin' on to you

The broken locks were a warning you got inside my head
I tried my best to be guarded, I'm an open book instead
I still see your reflection inside of my eyes
That are looking for a purpose, they're still looking for life

I'm falling apart, I'm barely breathing
with a broken heart that's still beating
In the pain (in the pain), there is healing
In your name (in your name) I find meaning
So I'm holdin' on (I'm still holdin'), I'm holdin' on (I'm still holdin'), I'm holdin' on (I'm still holdin')
I'm barely holdin' on to you

I'm hangin' on another day
Just to see what you throw my way
And I'm hanging on to the words you say
You said that I will be OK

The broken lights on the freeway left me here alone
I may have lost my way now, haven't forgotten my way home

I'm falling apart, I'm barely breathing
with a broken heart that's still beating
In the pain(In the pain) there is healing
In your name I find meaning
So I'm holdin' on (I'm still holdin'), I'm holdin' on (I'm still holdin'), I'm holdin' on (I'm still holdin'),
I'm barely holdin' on to you

This has become my new happy song and one I
sometimes need to take a lesson from.........

Live every moment - love every day
'Cus before you know it your precious time slips away.
Live every moment - love every day
'Cause if you don't you might just throw your love away.
I walked for seven miles this mornin'. Footprints in the sand.
Washed away without a warning when the water hit the land.
But I will walk on 'til I can no longer stand.
I'll take you by the hand and we'll...

Live every moment - love every day
'Cus before you know it your precious time slips away.

There's water in the wind tonight.
There's a chill in the air.
It's coolin' down my skin tonight
Soakin' through your hair.
There's warmth enough within' tonight
for both of us to share.
We can take it anywhere. And we'll...

Live every moment - love every day
'Cus before you know it your precious time slips away.

Sometimes I wish we could take a trip far away.
Leave all this trouble and heartache and pain for another day.
I will search for that place but 'til I find it all I can say is...

Live every moment - and love every day

In Loving Memory, Alter Bridge

Thanks for all you've done
I've missed you for so long
I can't believe you're gone and
You still live in me
I feel you in the wind
You guide me constantly

I never knew what it was to be alone... no
'Cause you were always there for me
You were always home waiting
But now I come home and I miss your face so
Smiling down on me
I close my eyes to see

And I know
You're a part of me
And it's your song
That sets me free
I sing it while
I feel I can't hold on
I sing tonight
'Cause it comforts me

I carry the things that remind me of you
In loving memory of the one that was so true
You were as kind as you could be
And even though you're gone
You still mean the world to me

I never knew what it was to be alone... no
'Cause you were always there for me
You were always home waiting
But now I come home and it's not the same no
It feels empty and alone
I just can't believe you're gone

And I know
You're a part of me
And it's your song
That sets me free
I sing it while
I feel I can't hold on
I sing tonight
'Cause it comforts me

I'm glad He set you free from sorrow
But I'll still love you more tomorrow
And you'll be here with me still
All you did you did with feeling
And you always found a meaning
And you always will
And you always will
And you always will

And I know
You're a part of me
And it's your song
That sets me free
I sing it while
I feel I can't hold on
I sing tonight
'Cause it comforts me

Sounds like an awesome night. Hopefully Jeff's many connections will lead to exposure on a bigger scale for him.
I hate that any chance of Soul SirkUs continuing has been lost, I'd much prefer that to Journey at this point. I'm liking the second AB cd very well on just a few listens.

There are SO many lyrics that affected me over the years...
Right now, tho,it's Daughtry's song "Home".Love the lyrics so much.

"Home"

I'm staring out into the night,
Trying to hide the pain.
I'm going to the place where love
And feeling good don't ever cost a thing.
And the pain you feel's a different kind of pain.

Well I'm going home,
Back to the place where I belong,
And where your love has always been enough for me.
I'm not running from.
No, I think you got me all wrong.
I don't regret this life I chose for me.
But these places and these faces are getting old,
So I'm going home.
Well I'm going home.

The miles are getting longer, it seems,
The closer I get to you.
I've not always been the best man or friend for you.
But your love remains true.
And I don't know why.
You always seem to give me another try.

So I'm going home,
Back to the place where I belong,
And where your love has always been enough for me.
I'm not running from.
No, I think you got me all wrong.
I don't regret this life I chose for me.
But these places and these faces are getting old,

Be careful what you wish for,
'Cause you just might get it all.
You just might get it all,
And then some you don't want.
Be careful what you wish for,
'Cause you just might get it all.
You just might get it all, yeah.

Oh, well I'm going home,
Back to the place where I belong,
And where your love has always been enough for me.
I'm not running from.
No, I think you got me all wrong.
I don't regret this life I chose for me.
But these places and these faces are getting old.
I said these places and these faces are getting old,
So I'm going home.
I'm going home.

How about "Mother Love" by Queen. It has to be the saddest lyric I've ever heard, knowing Freddie was dying at the time. It was also his last vocal ever recorded, not more than a few weeks or maybe a couple of months before he passed away. :(

I don't want to sleep with you
I don't need the passion, too
I don't want a stormy affair
To make me feel my life is heading somewhere
All I want is the comfort and care
Just to know that my woman gives me sweet mother love

I've walked too long in this lonely lane
I've had enough of this same old game
I'm a man of the world, they say I'm strong
But my heart is heavy and my hope is gone

Out in the city, in the cold world outside
I don't want pity, just a safe place to hide
Mama please, let me back inside

I don't want to make no waves
But you can give me all the love that I crave
I can't take it if you see me cry
I long for peace before I die
All I want is to know that you're there
You're gonna give me all your sweet mother love

My body's aching but I can't sleep
My dreams are all the company I keep
Got such a feeling as the sun goes down
I'm coming home to my sweet mother love

Can't hear this one without it putting a tear in my eye. Not normally a big Celine Dion fan but this one is stunning...just makes me love my mom and miss my grandma even more.

"Goodbye's (The Saddest Word)"

Mamma
You gave life to me
Turned a baby into a lady

Mamma
All you had to offer
Was the promise of a lifetime of love

Now I know
There is no other
Love like a mother's love for her child

And I know
A love so complete
Someday must leave
Must say goodbye

Goodbye's the saddest word I'll ever hear
Goodbye's the last time I will hold you near
Someday you'll say that word and I will cry
It'll break my heart to hear you say goodbye

Mamma
You gave love to me
Turned a young one into a woman

Mamma
All I ever needed
Was a guarantee of you loving me

'Cause I know
There is no other
Love like a mother's love for her child

And it hurts so
That something so strong
Someday will be gone, must say goodbye

Goodbye's the saddest word I'll ever hear
Goodbye's the last time I will hold you near
Someday you'll say that word and I will cry
It'll break my heart to hear you say goodbye

But the love you gave me will always live
You'll always be there every time I fall
You are to me the greatest love of all
You take my weakness and you make me strong
And I will always love you 'til forever comes

And when you need me
I'll be there for you always
I'll be there your whole life through
I'll be there this I promise you, Mamma

Mamma, I'll be
I'll be your beacon through the darkest nights
I'll be the wings that guide your broken flight
I'll be your shelter through the raging storm
And I will love you 'till forever comes

Goodbye's the saddest word I'll ever hear
Goodbye's the last time I will hold you near
Someday you'll say that word and I will cry
It'll break my heart to hear you say goodbye

'Till we meet again...
Until then...
Goodbye

one of pauls best ballads...

Paul Stanley- I Will Be There

Each and every day
People turn away
Change the things they feel
Change the things they say

We can never know
Where our lives will lead
Wherever you go
Whenever you need

I will be there
Wanna be there
I will hear you when you call
Give you anything at all
I will be there
Anywhere
Like a father to his son

You are just a child
All is yet to be
Growing all the while
Knowing when you leave

I will be there
Wanna be there
Only blood will run so deep
Seal the promise I will keep
I will be there
Anywhere
Like a father to his son
I can swear to only one

Time moves quickly as the years go by
All these moments slip away
When Im gone and life will carry on
You will know someway

I will be there
I will be there

I will be there
Wanna be there
Only blood will run so deep
Seal the promise I will keep
I will be there
Like a father to his son
I must swear to only one

This is the song that always seems to come on after I lose somebody close to me. Neil's got a knack for hitting the right emotion for just about everything.

Afterimage by Rush

Suddenly-
You were gone
From all the lives
You left your mark upon

I remember-
How we talked and drank
Into the misty dawn
- I hear the voices
We ran by the water
On the wet summer lawn
- I see the foot prints
I remember-

- I feel the way you would
- I feel the way you would
Tried to believe
But you know it's no good
This is something
That just can't be understood
I remember-
The shouts of joy
Skiing fast through the woods
- I hear the echoes

I learned your love for life
I feel the way that you would
- I feel your presence
I remember-
I feel the way you would
This just can't be understood...

Here is the song I sing to Wyatt, one that has always made me smile inside and out... trying to lighten things up ;)

You're just too good to be true.
Can't take my eyes off you.
You'd be like Heaven to touch.
I wanna hold you so much.
At long last love has arrived
And I thank God I'm alive.
You're just too good to be true.
Can't take my eyes off you.

Pardon the way that I stare.
There's nothing else to compare.
The sight of you leaves me weak.
There are no words left to speak,
But if you feel like I feel,
Please let me know that it's real.
You're just too good to be true.
Can't take my eyes off you.

I love you, baby,
And if it's quite alright,
I need you, baby,
To warm a lonely night.
I love you, baby.
Trust in me when I say:
Oh, pretty baby,
Don't bring me down, I pray.
Oh, pretty baby, now that I found you, stay
And let me love you, baby.
Let me love you.

You're just too good to be true.
Can't take my eyes off you.
You'd be like Heaven to touch.
I wanna hold you so much.
At long last love has arrived
And I thank God I'm alive.
You're just too good to be true.
Can't take my eyes off you.

I love you, baby,
And if it's quite alright,
I need you, baby,
To warm a lonely night.
I love you, baby.
Trust in me when I say:
Oh, pretty baby,
Don't bring me down, I pray.
Oh, pretty baby, now that I found you, stay..
Until we meet again, may God
Hold you in the palm of his hand.

**helping with the chorus and a few high kicks**

I love you, baby,
And if it's quite alright,
I need you, baby,
To warm a lonely night.
I love you, baby.
Trust in me when I say:
Oh, pretty baby,
Don't bring me down, I pray.
Oh, pretty baby, now that I found you, stay..

That's such a cute one! I thought I'd keep with the lightening of mood by sharing the lullaby I used to sing to my little brother when he was a gerber-muncher. :)

"Godspeed (Sweet Dreams)"

Dragon tails and the water is wide
Pirates sail and lost boys fly
Fish bite moonbeams every night
And I love you

Godspeed, little man
Sweet dreams, little man
Oh my love will fly to you each night on angel's wings
Godspeed, sweet dreams

The rocket racer is all tuckered out
Superman is in pajamas on the couch
Goodnight moon will find the mouse
And I love you

Godspeed, little man
Sweet dreams, little man
Oh my love will fly to you each night on angel's wings
Godspeed, sweet dreams

God bless Mommy and matchbox cars
God bless Dad and thanks for the stars
God hears "Amen" wherever we are
And I love you

Godspeed, little man
Sweet dreams, little man
Oh my love will fly to you each night on angels wings
Godspeed
Godspeed

Sweet dreams

Here's another one by Silent Force...This song is about D.C. Cooper's son but it makes me think of my daughter anyway...

"Spread Your Wings"

Only the child sleeps with a conscience that is clear
Closes his eyes, drifting away without a fear
The innocent mind, I envy all that's pure
Grace his young years, within him is the man

Was he chosen
Chose to be within my life
Chose to be here in my life

Spread your wings, little man
Grab the sun, the hopes and dreams
Of everyone lies in your arms
Spread your wings, little man
Embrace the love that sends you on your way

My promise to you is that I'll do the best I can
Protect you from harm, but there's only so much I can do
You'll be left without a weight upon your shoulders
Oh how I wish that I could save you from this cold world

Are we the chosen?
The chosen ones placed in your life
Chose to guide you through your life

Spread your wings, little man
Grab the sun, the hopes and dreams
Of everyone lies in your arms
Spread your wings, little man
Embrace the love that sends you on your way

Oh, every day the world seems new
When I take one look at you
A feeling comes from deep, it brings a smile
You know when I'm falling
Picks me up and takes it all away
Spread your wings, little man

Spread your wings, little man
Grab the sun, the hopes and dreams
Of everyone lies in your arms
Spread your wings, little man
Embrace the love that sends you on your way

Come on, spread your wings - Spread your wings, little man
All your hopes and dreams
Come on, spread your wings
All your hopes and dreams
Come on, spread your wings
Embrace the love that sends you on your way

Lula wrote:As of late there are a few songs that have touched me to my core. The obvious being "When I Think of You." After my mother passed I expected this song to be one I could relate to, didn't happen and the same goes for when my father passed. But, when we lost Trevor... boy, did it hit home. Another song that has become very powerful to me is "Heaven Knows (No Frontiers)" by the Corrs. Trevor's eyes were magical, so deep. There is much I can't explain, but I do believe in God and have found some days I actually have fleeting moments of peace. I did see Heaven in Trevor's eyes and have seen Trevor in Wyatt's eyes.

"Heaven Knows (No Frontiers)"

If life is a river and your heart is a boat
And just like a water baby, baby born to float
And if life is a wild wind that blows way on high
And your heart is Amelia dying to fly
Heaven knows no frontiers and I've seen heaven in your eyes

And if life is a bar room in which we must wait
'Round the man with his fingers on the ivory gates
Where we sing until dawn of our fears and our fates
And we stack all the dead men in self addressed crates

In your eyes faint as the singing of a lark
That somehow this black night
Feels warmer for the spark
Warmer for the spark
To hold us 'til the day
When fear will lose its grip
And heaven has its ways

Heaven knows no frontiers
And I've seen heaven in your eyes

If your life is a rough bed of brambles and nails
And your spirit's a slave to man's whips and man's jails

Where you thirst and you hunger for justice and right
And your heart is a pure flame of man's constant night

In your eyes faint as the singing of a lark
That somehow this black night
Feels warmer for the spark
Warmer for the spark
To hold us 'til the day when fear will lose its grip
And heaven has its ways
And heaven has its ways
When all will harmonise
And you know what's in our hearts
The dream will realise

Heaven knows no frontiers
And I've seen heaven in your eyes
Heaven knows no frontiers
And I've seen heaven in your eyes

Incredible song.

This is my "Evan" song. Whenever I hear this song I take my own little "time out". It was an ending to alot of things in my life that would eventually bring wonderful changes and keep all the powerful memories alive safely in my heart.

I, I can't read the future
But I still want to hold you close
Right now, is all I want from you
So give me the morning
Sharing another day
With you, is all I want to know

And baby I, I've tried to forget you
But the light of your eyes still shine
You shine like an angel
A spirit that won't let me go

I, I didn't want to tell you
Things I didn't want to know myself
I was afraid to show
But you gave me a reason
A reason to face the truth
To face the truth, face the truth, face the truth

And baby I, I've tried to forget you
But the light of your eyes still shine
You shine like an angel
A spirit that won't let me go
Won't let me go
Let go of my heart
When in doubt, DUCK!

This was my friend Kelly's favorite song....

Little did I know, approx 2 years after singing this to her at a Karaoke bar, she would die ~ after battling complications from Diabetes....

I miss you, Kells....

"Total Eclipse of the Heart"(Bonnie Tyler)

Turnaround, every now and then I get a
little bit lonely and you're never coming around
Turnaround, Every now and then I get a
little bit tired of listening to the sound of my tears
Turnaround, Every now and then I get a
little bit nervous that the best of all the years have gone by
Turnaround, Every now and then I get a
little bit terrified and then I see the look in your eyes

Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and
then I fall apart
Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and
then I fall apart

Turnaround, Every now and then I get a
little bit restless and I dream of something wild
Turnaround, Every now and then I get a
little bit helpless and I'm lying like a child in your arms
Turnaround, Every now and then I get a
little bit angry and I know I've got to get out and cry
Turnaround, Every now and then I get a
little bit terrified but then I see the look in your eyes

Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and
then I fall apart
Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and
then I fall apart

And I need you now tonight
And I need you more than ever
And if you'll only hold me tight
We'll be holding on forever

And we'll only be making it right
Cause we'll never be wrong together
We can take it to the end of the line
Your love is like a shadow on me all of the time

I don't know what to do and I'm always in the dark
We're living in a powder keg and giving off sparks
I really need you tonight
Forever's gonna start tonight
Forever's gonna start tonight

Once upon a time I was falling in love
But now I'm only falling apart
There's nothing I can do
A total eclipse of the heart

Once upon a time there was light in my life
But now there's only love in the dark
Nothing I can say
A total eclipse of the heart

Turnaround bright eyes
Turnaround bright eyes

Turnaround, every now and then I know
you'll never be the boy you always you wanted to be
Turnaround, every now and then I know
you'll always be the only boy who wanted me the way that I am
Turnaround, every now and then I know
there's no one in the universe as magical and wonderous as you
Turnaround, every now and then I know
there's nothing any better and there's nothing I just wouldn't do

Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and
then I fall apart
Turnaround bright eyes, Every now and
then I fall apart

And I need you now tonight
And I need you more than ever
And if you'll only hold me tight
We'll be holding on forever

And we'll only be making it right
Cause we'll never be wrong together
We can take it to the end of the line
Your love is like a shadow on me all of the time

I don't know what to do and I'm always in the dark
We're living in a powder keg and giving off sparks
I really need you tonight
Forever's gonna start tonight
Forever's gonna start tonight

Once upon a time I was falling in love
But now I'm only falling apart
There's nothing I can do
A total eclipse of the heart
Once upon a time there was light in my life
But now there's only love in the dark
Nothing I can say
A total eclipse of the hear
