Marillion

Postby Memorex » Sat Nov 10, 2007 12:18 pm

Well, what can I say? It's all about Marillion for me these days. The lyrics I am posting here are some of the best. The newer versions with Steve Hogarth solo with piano are amazing.

Two other songs from Marillion that are close to me are Waiting to Happen & Fantastic Place. The latter for my current emotional state and the former for how I feel about my kids.

Waiting to Happen: http://www.marillion.com/music/lyrics/holidays.htm
Fantastic Place: http://www.marillion.com/music/lyrics/marbles.htm

Afraid of Sunlight
Drive the road to your surrender
Time comes around... out of my hands
Small boats on the beach at the dead of night
Come and go before first light
Leave me running in the wheel
King of the world
How do you feel?
What is there to feel?

So how do we now come to be
Afraid of sunlight?
Tell me girl why you and me
Scared of sunlight?

Been in pain for so long
I can't even say what hurts anymore
I will leave you alone
I will deny
I will leave you to bleed
I will leave you with your life

So how do we now come to be
Afraid of sunlight?
Tell me girl why you and me
Scared of sunlight?

All your spirit rack abuses
Come to haunt you back by day
All your Byzantine excuses
Given time, given you away

Don't be surprised when daylight comes
To find that memory prick your thumbs
You'll tell them where we run to hide
I'm already dead
It's a matter of time

So how do we now come to be
Afraid of sunlight
How do we now come to be
Afraid of sunlight

Day-Glo Jesus on the dash
Chalk marks on the road ahead
Friendly fire in hostile waters
Keep the faith
Don't lose your head

So how do we now come to be?

Rick Springfield has been one of my favorties for decades. Rock of Life was so well written and produced. The years following seemed almost tragic. Talk about a fall. But Karma and S/D/A/A are incredible. My kids love SDAA. Some really focused anger on that disc. It was the raw follow-up to Rock of Life if you ask me. I could have done without The Day After Yesterday though. But that's more me than him, I imagine. Not exactly the best way to follow up such a great offering.

Tear it All Down and World Start Turning are my favorites from Rock of Life.

I grew up listening to this one and it always seems to pop into my head whenever things are going wrong. Never fails to put a smile on the face and some pep in the step. Yeah, chalk that up to one of my known nerd qualities.

What a Wonderful World

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.

The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do
They're really saying I love you.

I hear babies cry, I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll never know
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
Yes I think to myself what a wonderful world.

Louis Armstrong is so great. I had to go look this one up so I could hear it again.

I have 2 such songs .
1. is 'The Moment of Truth' Thunder...This song sums up the relief felt after living in a dangerous situation for a long time, lets just say that :)
2. 'When I'm Back on my feet gain'.Michael Bolton. this song sums up the determination my dad showed even though he knew he was terminally ill before he passed away Nov 5 1991, and I have missed him every single day since then. I also believe that he is back on his feet again in a better place :)

both songs make me smile, and sometimes the latter makes me cry

Moment of Truth
I spent a long time thinking 'bout what you meant to me
And I've decided I was wrong
I fooled myself, thinking it was how it's supposed to be
I should've known it all along
Now I don't want to fight about it no more
It was all so clear to me, when I walked out the door

Loving you's like fire, but I'm tired of getting burned
It's been a long time coming baby, but the tables just got turned
'Cos you swallowed up my soul, and you wasted all my youth
The time has come to face it, it's the moment of truth

I'm amazed I let you do the things you did to me
But they say that love is blind
Now my ball & chain has melted away, and I feel 10 feet tall today
'Cos I've stolen back my mind, oh baby
I should've realised it years before
But now my satisfaction's guaranteed, without you that's for sure

Loving you's like fire, but I'm tired of getting burned
It's been a long time coming baby, but the tables just got turned
'Cos you swallowed up my soul, and you wasted all my youth
The time has come to face it, it's the moment of truth

I've waited a lifetime, but I'm finally on the track
Out of the dark into the sunshine, and I ain't going back.

When I'm baack on my feet Again
Gonna break these chains around me,
Gonna learn to fly again
May be hard, may be hard, but I'll do it
When I'm back on my feet again
Soon these tears will all be dryin'
Soon these eyes will see the sun
Might take time, might take time, but I'll see it
When I'm back on my feet again

When I'm back on my feet again
I'll walk proud down that street again
And they'll all look at me again
And they'll see that I'm strong, oh

Gonna hear the children laughing,
Gonna hear the voices sing
Won't be long, won't be long 'till I hear them
When I'm back on my feet again
I'm gonna feel the sweet light of heaven
Shining down its light on me
One sweet day, one sweet day I will feel it
When I'm back on my feet again

When I'm back on my feet again
I'll walk proud downthat street again
And they'll all look at me again
And they'll see, that I"m strong

And I'm not gonna crawl again
I will learn to stand tall again
No, I'm not gonna fall again
'cause I'll learn to be strong

Soon these tears will all be dryin'
Soon these eyes will see the sun
Won't be long, won't be long
'till I see it
When I'm back on my feet again
When I'm back on my feet again

I'll be back on my feet again

When these came out, I was working with with shelter animals - and, boy, these 2 songs just about killed me, lol… still choke me up

Pink Floyd
On the turning away

http://youtube.com/watch?v=2v240bYbbrM

On the turning away
from the pale and downtrodden
and the words they say
which we won't understand
" don't accept that what's happening
is just a case of others' suffering
or you'll find that you're joining in
the turning away"

It's a sin that somehow
light is changing to shadow
and casting it's shroud
over all we have known
unaware how the ranks have grown
driven on by a heart of stone
we could find that we're all alone
in the dream of the proud

On the wings of the night
as the daytime is stirring
where the speechless unite
in a silent accord
using words you will find are strange
and mesmerised as they light the flame
feel the new wind of change
on the wings of the night

No more turning away
from the weak and the weary
no more turning away
from the coldness inside
just a world that we all must share
it's not enough just to stand and stare
is it only a dream that there'll be
no more turning away?

Bruce Springsteen's 'Streets of Philadelphia'

I was bruised and battered and I couldn't tell
what I felt
I was unrecognizable to myself
Saw my reflection in a window I didn't know
my own face
Oh brother are you gonna leave me
wasting away
On the streets of Philadelphia

I walked the avenue till my legs felt like stone
I heard the voices of friends vanished and gone
At night I could hear the blood in my veins
Just as black and whispering as the rain
On the streets of Philadelphia

Ain't no angel gonna greet me
It's just you and I my friend
And my clothes don't fit me no more
I walked a thousand miles
just to slip this skin

The night has fallen, I'm lyin' awake
I can feel myself fading away
So receive me brother with your faithless kiss
or will we leave each other alone like this
On the streets of Philadelphia

Two powerful songs

Bottom of Your Soul - Toto

Where are the children we lost not long ago
Feel for the Mothers who weep for them
I pray for the Fathers who are standing by their side
In their world of pain and suffering

Have you ever seen the look in a hungry child's eyes
They can't eat money or promises
Give them your smile and try holding out your hand
Let them know you're there, let them know you're there

Chorus
Why is it always the ones that we love
Are the ones that will never come home
Why must all of the bridges we cross take their toll
Always remember the voice in your head
Speaks to you when you're alone
And it comforts you
From the top of your heart to the bottom of your soul

You can swim in a river of tears they cry
For they sleep on the winds of uncertainty
Show us a sign and make us believe again
There's no other way, oh, there's no other way
