and here's the future. What a stunning rendition. This dude has no emotion? Bullshit. This is the best version I've heard with the exception of Steve Perry. Give this guy a few months to master these songs and he could really make some waves. Add Journey musicianship to his vocals and take away his $9 microphone and you might have something. This guy has had 2 huge albums and covers 300 songs. If given the chance to JUST do the catalog he'll do it justice. Bet on it.

Considering Perry is spending time with his daughter and grandchildren and Journey IS recording, I'm going to assume it's with Arnel. I'm excited about this guy's unlimited potential. If they can correct some of the language barrier and diction issues. Journey will have their best singer since Perry.

This is not so much an "Arnel" issue for me as it is a "Journey" issue. I cannot see myself paying up to a hundred dollars (or more) for a Journey concert ticket when I can go see Frontiers, and get my 'Journey fix'. I was willing to continue to support them (financially) if Jeremey were named lead singer, because of Jeremey, not because of Journey.

I wish Arnel well. I just have no interest in seeing him with Journey. Journey may very well have their best singer since Perry in this guy, but it's not totally about 'singing'. It's also about 'performance' and I think Arnel is lacking. Jeff Scott Soto had it in spades. At this point, all I can imagine is Journey 'going through the motions' and that's just not good enough for me.

Find the boots of Perry in Japan and look at HIS stage presence. Perry, like Arnel, was aware of the cultural setting and didn't stray more than 10 feet in either direction. Arnel's stage presence will ultimately be a non-issue. His voice is that good. DP, I respect your views and your current stance because you have kept the proper people in your cross hairs.

Thanks Dan. Let me try this again....

I was never fortunate enough to see Journey with Steve Perry. However, in his videos, and the live performance videos that I have seen, it didn't matter how much he moved around on stage. It was how he sung the songs. Like Friga said, "he bleeds a little each time he sings" (or something like that). That's what I mean about stage presence. He presented those songs to us with his HEART, not his voice. Each of us felt them right along with him. And that's why we can relate so much to those songs, and connect them to our own memories and experiences.

With JSS, it was different. He didn't sing the songs like SP, and in most cases, he didn't try to (WYLAW is the only time I remember him actually trying to make the song sound like SP). He knew he would never be a "Steve Perry clone" and so he performed those songs the best he knew how, giving as much of himself to them as he could. I truly believe that is why he was so easily accepted by the 'loons'. We could love him for his interpretation of the music, and we didn't necessarily leave the venue longing for Steve Perry. Was it a 'cover band'? In many ways, I believe it was. However, Jeff's performances brought a whole new meaning to many of those songs for me.

I don't know what Arnel will or will not ultimately bring to Journey. It's just that at this point, I'm not interested. Jon and Neal have bastardized the music to a point that the emotion and meaning behind it is almost gone for me. So I will remember the good times that I've shared with many here going to see Journey with JSS, and I will have all my Steve Perry/Journey videos and CDs to cherish, and I will go see Jeremey perform the music with Frontiers every chance I get. And... if the stars align in their proper places, hopefully one day I will get to see Steve Perry perform live just once.

Deano, you said that about Jeremey too. :D

EGGGGZZZZACTLY. It was never an Arnel issue for me either... I would hold the same opinion about the situation no matter WHO they had plucked off YouTube. The negative feelings a lot people have toward this band started before the ideas and speculation about the next singer even started, before Jeremey's name was mentioned, before any names were mentioned. Hell, a lot of it started when Perry left and/or got booted (I'm not trying to start up THAT argument, I'm just saying it both way to show that's it's not important to the point I'm making). And then of course when Augeri was booted and the hostilities bubbled some more.

And then the JSS mayhem happened, and all the talk about what true shits these guys are started up and turned a lot of people off. I was one of them. I had found a new respect for Journey, despite some of their actions, when they took on JSS permanently because I thought it showed a new direction for the band and I thought it showed them going, "we're not trying to do the Perry clone thing, we got this new guy, he can rock, he does the old stuff justice in his own way and he's going to be great for our new stuff."

Then they pulled the rug out from under that entire operation and the stock market on Current Journey fucking crashed. For me anyway. We could be talking about almost any singer here, and I think a lot of these same expressions would still be coming out because the bad feelings got going with the FrigFro's actions, or lack thereof, around May and June.
