All bs aside, doesn't Neal, Jon, Ross, Deen still rock?

Lora is exactly right here. There is NO doubt that is what they are doing, BUT, this is going to backfire BIG TIME. You can't replicate the finest singer ever..why try? Stupid. Rifuckindiculous.

Hell, wait til this hits the RnR world....Embarrassing.

We know JSS is a prolific and skilled lyricist in his own right, outside of his charisma and innovative method of singing Journey material. Is Arnel a decent hand at songwriting?

Dude,

New or not, that statement is udderly fucking reDICKulous so your spot on. The only one that tops that is the claim that Arnel is better than Perry. I've heard it all on this board for sure now. Soto is great for sure but there is no fucking way he could touch Perry upstairs. Sweet and Simple will surely prove that ... and was respect really required in your reply? That was just a stupid statement.

L8r,

Aaron

I think if they still need the money and want to continue on
they do need to prove themselves as you worded it, putting out new music
and playing it to the crowds is the best way to do that.
If they want "my" money new music must be involved.

Wait a sec.... I would LOVE some new music from Journey or SP, etc, but I'm not going to damn the band publicly just because at pushing 60 they decide to keep performing primarily the hits. And let's keep in mind they HAVE released new music the past few years. I don't know, still seems like alot of users here really just want to bash Journey for the sake of bashing? I've never seen this kind of negativity toward a band, coming from people that call themselves "die hard" fans? And I've NEVER seen a forum allow so many fbombs, personal name calling, etc. All that does is allow people to continue to be someone they're not in the comfort of their monitor.

What you need to realize is that, when you come in here, youre dealing with the MR family, not just die hard fans. You're more than welcome to discuss things with the rest of us, but you just want to cause problems and thats where you will notice us standing up to trolls like yourself.
As many times as we all disagree on things and fight and argue and go back and forth on a daily basis, we're united when needed. This is the house of fun and crazy , but when we smell a rat in the house, we will stand united and make sure we give the rat what it deserve the best. Now you havent got a full rat-killer-treatment (yet) , but youve got a sample of the warning from this MR family. If you change your attitude and start all over , you may have a chance to prove yourself worthy of this wonderful(but crazy) family. If not, dont let the door hit your ass on your way out!

With all due respect, I must disagree. My first day here, I royally and righteously pissed one woman off because I pointed out that I did not feel that JSS could match Steve Perry's upper register. That is ridiculous.

I think so , yes.

I think the vast majority would rather hear some form of new music over anything old...but let's wait and see before casting judgement.

Schon seems to get better and better EVERY YEAR. Every tour he seems to show anew
side or influence or technique to his playing/sound.

I really need to chime in on this one. Neal inspired me to pick up the guitar 26 years ago. I have followed everything he has ever done musically and in my opinion Neal's live performances have not been very inspiring ever since I saw them in 99. Just go back and listen to some of the boots from around 79-80 and of course check out the Houston DVD from 81. That was some inspired playing. To me, lately he has seemed to just want to cram as many notes into a solo as he can. He seems bored to me. I was really looking forward to a new album with JSS because that fresh perspective is exactly what I think Neal needs to get back to his soulful melodic brilliance.

My 2 cents.

That is my guess also. Definitely not new material...but will the big man sign off on this?? Time will tell! :)

I get the same feeling; first thought I had upon hearing they were in the studio w/ Shirley.
This is a ridiculous move. Hell, I thought it was a stupid idea when there was taf them doing
this w/ Jeff and, like many here, I am a HUGE fan of Jeff's.

This is just another example of how lazy and desperate they have become.
You want to try thing s with yet another singer? Fine.
You want a singer that harkens back to the "Legacy" sound (ie Steve Perry)? Fine.
But for the Love of All Things Sacred, do something NEW with it.

Dean made some great example of "Old" bands staying fresh; Springsteen, The Stones, BA...
Don't forget REM, Aerosmith, Clapton, The Who, Carlos Santana...
"Getting Older" is a poor excuse for "Getting Lazy".
I don't buy for a second that these guys truly care about their fans.
They only care about Ticket Sales.

BTW, Is it just me or is this worn-out "Legacy" concern getting a bit ridiculous?
It's become more of a freakin' punchline than anything else.

Who really gives a rat's ass about Journey's Legacy???
The current Band? Sure, they need the money.
But why in the blue fuck should I care???
Their Legacy is safe and secure on my CD/DVD shelves, on my iPod
and in all the great memories those songs/years inspire.

Like trying something "NEW" or thinking "Outside the Box" for once could ruin that in a fan.

I just do not see Perry letting this happen. My guess is that they are just fiddling around with some new stuff and will still play the dirty dozen on tour.

Throw in the Sony factor too.

Well, it seems that I've offended Nancy (Fredinator). I wasn't serious but her feelings have been hurt. I'm issuing a (sincere) public apology. The only reason I AM apologizing is because my comment toward her was unsolicited. I'm sorry.

I wasn't aware they still HAD any integrity. If they do, it's gotta be resembling one-ply TP by now, because I definitely detect pure shit coming through if they're hanging around recording that which NEED NOT BE TOUCHED.

Yeah, lol, you're terribly convincing.

Yes, I'm still here, and I plan to remain here until such time that I'm either forcibly removed or until I willingly depart. A middle aged woman with a poor leash on her emotions (your period must be daily instead of monthly) who prefers to flame a 16-year-old (and rather pathetically) isn't criterion for my departure. And it's not even subject matter that should yield such passionate responses; I find you terribly amusing -- a living example of what a woman ought not try to become.

Now, you can't say as though I didn't try, but you're not worth the patience or consideration. My last gracious act to you will be a warning: raise your game or get the hell out of the court.

She forfeited any decency on my behalf when she opted to repeatedly act like a bitch. I pointed out that JSS simply can't match Perry's upper register. Cue the hissy fit and harrassment. Thing is SM, if you'd been reading here for any length of time, you'd realize Deb's a little protective of her soul brothah. Hey, she ain't called Crazy Dulce Lady for nothin'.  And we's like her that way! If you'd read here for even a little bit, you'd have just brushed it off. Your comments about her are beyond rude & you have no clue how WRONG you are about her, since you've never met her & spent lots of time with her like myself & MANY others here have. And obviously you don't get her humor either.

She's an inredible woman, far more than you'll obviously ever be as a man since you find it so easy to treat a woman like shit. So yeah, go away.

I really don't see anything she said that warranted such a vicious retort. She is actually a wonderful woman, with a very big heart and defends what she believes in passionately. Please don't be nasty to her - she doesn't deserve it at all.
