I think this sort of thing happens on EVERY board. Old-timers get territorial, and wish to mark their place. People get caught up in post count. Again, this happens on every other board I've been a part of.

I don't think it's post count per se...It's more like "Stay here long enough and be involved before we take you seriously".

Regardless, no one will take YOU seriously, anyway.

I learned waaay back in the early days of the internet that you "listen", so-to-speak, and get the vibe of the board before joining in the discussion. Let people get to know you, get to know the people for awhile. I've been treated fine; I could see that this board goes waaaaay back and the folks often meet or have met each other. The old AOL board was like that - at one point we had all met.

I must say I've learned some interesting insults!

:D

Never hurts to file them away, you never know when you might be able to use one in real life

SYDNEY (AFP) - Santas in Australia's largest city have been told not to use Father Christmas's traditional "ho ho ho" greeting because it may be offensive to women, it was reported Thursday.

Sydney's Santa Clauses have instead been instructed to say "ha ha ha" instead, the Daily Telegraph reported.

One disgruntled Santa told the newspaper a recruitment firm warned him not to use "ho ho ho" because it could frighten children and was too close to "ho", a US slang term for prostitute.

"Gimme a break," said Julie Gale, who runs the campaign against sexualising children called Kids Free 2B Kids.

"We are talking about little kids who do not understand that "ho, ho, ho" has any other connotation and nor should they," she told the Telegraph.

"Leave Santa alone."

A local spokesman for the US-based Westaff recruitment firm said it was "misleading" to say the company had banned Santa's traditional greeting and it was being left up to the discretion of the individual Santa himself

Agreed.

But what is most rediculous is the fact it is just another example of how Americanized the world is becoming. Stupid word, stupid use of the word and stupid decision to stop people using it in the traditional manner due to an American slang word penetrating local language.

I love Amercia to death...fabulous place and people. But I want to visit the country to experience that feeling, know what I mean?

It does sound frustrating!!! I was shocked to read that happening in Australia - we have to put up with this stupid stuff every year but I never thought we were exporting it. Hopefully the pendulum will swing back to some form of normalcy soon. I'm so sick of "politically correct" I could scream!

Not exactly Andrew. It's going exactly where those who are driving it want it to go.

Andrew- Around the time of the Constitution in 1776, the signers protected us with "freedom of religion"after their experiences with England. In the last 30 yrs it has changed to "freedom from religion". I blame this on the Democratic party and their stance on abortion and the ACLU Amer civil liberties lawyers which has become PC run amuck. Anyway ,this country is divided. I don't want far right or far left, but just they way it was in the 60-70-80's.

Liberals to be more specific. I can't speak for you Aussie's because I haven't followed your situation down there but I suspect it's similiar. Liberal leaders here want to tear down everything that made this country great. Traditions we hold dear, values, right and wrong, eliminating God from the public domain. Why? So they can rebuild it in their image. So government will be the highest power, the be all and end all.
The 10 Commandments? Gone from public places. Kids saying the Pledge of Allegiance (under God) in class? Over. The Thanksgiving holiday has been taught even when I was a kid as pilgrims and indians (uh sorry Native Americans) breaking bread. It wasn't until just 10 years or so ago that I found out what the real meaning was. It's all about giving thanks to God. Anyway, the foundation of this country has been systematically under attack for longer than I've been alive.
squirt1 wrote:Anyway ,this country is divided.

I don't think so. I think the courts are packed by libs with libs. This is how they bypass the constitution and the amendment process, because they don't have the votes or the will of the people on their side. All they need to do is pack a court to impose their will on us. Simple.
Andrew wrote:Who is giving these buffoons control? Not me....not anyone else I know..

You don't know anyone who believes everything should be "fair, equal, and non-exclusive"?
You probably do. We could eliminate any and everything on these grounds. It's happening and it's happening for a purpose.

So, "Non-Denominational Holiday Figure" won't be allowed to say,
"Lady of the evening! Lady of the evening! Lady of the evening!",
instead having to say, "Chuckle! Chuckle! Chuckle"???

And then said Non-Denominational Holiday Figure will be leaving
gifts underneath a "Family Tree"???

Nope, they had to change THAT too!
Hell, they had to change the name "Hostess" because too many
people were offened; they interpretted it as slang for
"immature, high school ditz that kept me waiting for a table for over 2 hours!"

They are now called "Dining Room Receptionist Ha-Has"

Here are a few more, so-called "Politically Incorrect" terms/phrases I found online
that just make you wonder, "Why in the blue fuck are people so god damn sensitive???"

1. Flip Chart: The term can be offensive to Filipinos, please use ‘writing block’
(No pun or joke towards possible new singer for Journey; I just thought this one was hilarious!)

2. Use of the Color "Black" -- Staff at a coffee shop in Glasgow refused to serve a
customer who had ordered a 'black coffee', believing it to be ‘racist.’ He wasn’t served
until he changed his order to 'coffee without milk'. Around the world we have reports
of the word ‘black’ becoming emotionally charged and politically incorrect depending upon one’s point of view.

3. “Our Mother and Father Who art in Heaven” – From a new, ‘inclusive’ Bible translation
of the original "our Father" prayer that replaces what it believes to be “divisive” teachings of Christianity.

4. Thought Shower or Word Shower : substitute for brainstorm so as not to
offend those with brain disorders such as epilepsy.

5. "God Rest Ye Merry Persons" for "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen": A Christmas, eh, Holiday
carol with 500 years of history is not enough to sway the Anglican Church at Cardiff Cathedral (Wales) from
changing the original lyrics. There are those who suggest going one step further: "Higher Power Rest Ye Merry Persons".

6. Happy Holidays or Season's Greetings for Christmas : However, the word holiday is derived
directly from Holy Day, and in the word X-Mas, the Greek letter 'chi' represented by the Roman X
actually stands for the first two letters of the name Christ. Now there are published reports of organization
banning the traditional Christmas Colours of red and green.

7. C.E. for A.D: Is the current year A.D. 2007 or 2007 C.E.? There is a movement to
strip A.D. (Latin for "In the Year of the Lord") from the year designation used in the West since
the 5th century and replace it with the supposedly more neutral Common Era ...
though the zero reference year for the beginning of the Common Era remains the year of Christ's birth.

Can you believe some of this shit????

The Australian government (Liberal Party Of Aust.) have been in power for 11 years and kissing Bush's ass for 7 of those and are about to be handed their ass in a sling next Saturday with the 2007 Federal Election.

1 down (I hope) then 1 to go.

Exactly. Thanksgiving was meant to be a celebration of thanks to God that the pilgrims made it through a very harsh winter. Many schools today teach that they were giving thanks to the Indians or some such nonsense.

I work in the education publishing industry. You would not believe a lot of the sensitivity issues that must be considered when writing textbooks and other materials. The whole Common Era issue is huge. Many publishers are going with CE instead of AD now. The reason for that is that is what some of the big states are requiring it. Publishers are afraid that if they don't make the change, a state will not consider their book for state adoptions. The craziest requirement I ever had on a project was instead of using "Native American," I had to use "indigenous people of North America." Now the swing seems to be going back to Native Americans and even Indians in some cases. My daughter was told at school that the original reason for Halloween was that it's fun for kids.

The latest thing that's driving me batty is a new Illinois law that is the opposite of PC. It's the "Silent Prayer and Reflection" law (I can't remember the exact name, but it definitely has the word "prayer" in it). My child is required to have a moment every morning at school for silent prayer or reflection about the days events. Yes, the law states what children must think about. My child was told that she cannot spend her 10 seconds of time thinking about Nintendo, etc. I told her that her thoughts are her own and she can think about whatever she wants. It disgusts me that the government wants to mandate what my child thinks about.
