Why would anyone want to hear a person that be a vocal chameleon? I want to hear a person that can only sing one style of music, because they want to. I want to hear a person that sings one style of music because their heart and soul comes through their vocals only that way. They are able to emote their feelings and personality into their vocals because they sing from their heart, singing in a zone that can only come from their soul. A lot of people can sing a lot of shit, but only a few can sing from the heart and convey that to their listening audience. Vocal chameleons can't do this and show through clearly. Give me a Steve Perry or Bon Scott any day as those guys sang only one way, from the heart.

Funny how we all think so differently. That is one of the very reasons I like JSS. 2 songs that I never even really noticed years ago or that I heard but didn't really care too much about are now 2 songs I really like. Ok in one case looooooooove..........Crazy and Frozen. The tiny bit of edge that JSS's vocals add to those songs, made all the difference to me I guess. :D And with the mix of rock/metal/pop/funk that he throws into his shows, definately one of the funnest I've been to in a long time. A lot like Journey in that way........if you listen to Infinity, Frontiers and TBF......they couldn't sound more differently vocally and musically. I love it when vocalists/bands change it up...........keeps me intrigued. Find it funny you used Steve Perry as an example.......IMO, one of the best vocal chameleons, throughout his catalogue.

This argument is flawed beyond comprehension... who is to say that the singer can't feel the emotion of the song or style he is covering? By that logic, none of us should feel any emotion from the music we LISTEN to either. Total nonsense

That's a valid point.

Hey CLR,

How are you? Do you really think Perry changed his vocal styles that much, I don't. I look at it like this, if you put on any song sung by Perry, is it obvious who is singing it? No matter what song it is, when you hear Perry's voice you can immediately identify who is sing. I think that type of talent comes from singing what you love. That is what I'm getting at.

Sorry Aaron, but I totally disagree with this part. Concerning JSS, he does sing from the heart and soul, and conveys that feeling very clearly.

I am wondering something tho. Why just one way with singers? I think singers should change up every now and then so they are not so damn predictable. Perry did change his vocal stylings when Escape came out. That went in a totally different direction.

Deb,

Everyone is different for sure. :) I don't think Perry was a vocal chameleon at all. If a song comes on that Perry is singing, can you identify it immediately? I bet so. Which is why I'd say Perry is not a vocal chameleon.
