Steve Perry...Steve F*** Perry

Postby strangegrey » Sat Nov 17, 2007 3:09 pm

You know....I've been bashing that piece of shit Schon for, what it feels like, years now. That'll never stop.

But I realized something this fine evening....that this band is completely shit without Steve Perry. No fucking singer, no matter how fucking good, whether it's Augeri, Soto, the new fucking outsourced throat or any fucking one else....can even come close to Perry. Even if Perry's singing voice is diminished by age or mileage....there's a tonality to his voice that is can not be immitated by anyone else...I dont care who the fuck you are.

David Coverdale may have the Jorn Lande waiting in the wings....but there isn't a fucking singer out there that can match Perry, no matter what crack you smoke or weed you inhale or whatever....

and until the day these fucking idiots, from schon to the faggot behind the whale.....realize that the only thing that's going to save this band's ass is STEVE FUCKING PERRY.....they will continue to drive this band and its good name into the dirt, along with the half eaten dog bones!

That's my position and I'm fucking sticking to it. This band is completely and utterly shit, without Perry. No one can touch the fucker...and none of you out there in internet land can make a case otherwise...no matter how hard you fucking try.

Until the day that Neal Schon, fat, bloated, and desperate for alimony....crawls on his hands and knees and begs Steve to return....and Steve decides to grant this fucking piece of shit forgiveness.....will this band EVER return to stardom.

It's fucking done people....no one can do it but Perry...not Augeri, not Soto, not some outsourced hotel bar singer from the far ends of the earth...it's simply done!

Until the day Steve comes back, this is simply the end....dead and burried.

Frank - while I pride this message board in being an open minded and free spirited one, I think that post is a little over the top - even for you.

My dear Wombat, why, pray tell, is an animated exclamation...or should I be permitted to say, expulsion of demons...be deemed over the top?

It's an exclamation from the heart. I do feel, in my heart of hearts, that this op-ed is an important declaration in these most desperate times...as Journey is on the cusp of burying its legacy in the most shallowest of graves...we must do all way can, as *true* Journey fans, to express what is the most important job we will have....

...to protect the Journey legacy from final damnation...as we stand on the edge of the gates of hell, about to be thrust into the fire of true damnation (loosely translated into 'karaoke hell with Journey's new singer')...

Who's with me!

Shall I preach on!

No need whatsoever to preach on, Frank. That has been my exact stance for years.......of course, minus the f-bombs

Someone is finally getting it. Thank you Frank!

It may be over the top, but Perry was over the top. No one can ever replace him. It's like trying to replace Elvis.

Some people are angry at Perry for quitting while he was ahead. While part of me would love to see Steve sing with Journey again, part of me doesn't want to see him go out and risk tarnishing his legacy. It's not like any of the members of Journey would care if he blows his voice out or not. Steve has to look out for himself, and protect his own integrity. If Steve Perry never sings another song again in his life, what he has already given to the music world is more than you could ever expect from any human being.

AMEN. They have behaved like teenagers with a Ferrari -- driven it into the ground and can't understand why it's not working. Steve Perry respects the machine; these assholes don't care about anything but the cash.

Perry is in a league all by himself....which is why this topic has always been raised and passionately discussed

i think most major fans know in our hearts they'll never be what they once were without Perry...but we come to these boards curious of their next move...it's like a never-ending soap opera

the topic will always be comparing them to their A-game line-up

Ah Frank, that's what I love about you! Your subtlety! :D :D :D

Preach on, oh leader of hardcore fans - I'm with ya. Except that I think JSS is too good for Journey...hey, I gotta stand up for the only singer I like who is still actually singing!

Steve Perry could return to this band with his own demands, there is no reason to believe they would destroy his throat. If he says 2 shows a week, or even 1 a week then so be it. The remaining members would have to agree to whatever he said. It would be great if Perry would somehow find a more fitting way to say good bye other than the silence thing, unless hes not ready to say goodbye yet. His great career deserves a better ending. Schon and Perry both need to find a way to resolve this bitterness. They created something wonderful and special, and we are still sitting here talking about it 20-30 years later. Someone said Schon reads this board periodically-if this is true and he sees this-BE THE BIGGER MAN NEAL AND CALL HIM, ARRANGE FOR A MEETING AND WORK THIS OUT! EVEN IF NOT FOR A REUNION HOW ABOUT SOME PIECE OF MIND??? It seems to me that a solution to this could be found so easily if someone would just make an attempt.

Irving Azoff is STILL managing Journey for ONE reason and ONE reason only....to reunite the classic lineup. Contrary to some bad information floating around, I've been told that Journey has begged Steve to sing during a show, a song, an album, a tour or forever. He denies every single request. I don't get this guy. He has Uncle Joe Benson tell us that his voice is "as good as anytime in the mid 80's" yet he won't sing. Why sing for this dude and let that leak out. He and UJB are good friends as I understand it, so why the need to perpetuate the rumor that you CAN still sing when you clearly can't or won't? I'm on Journey's side on this one...and I don't give a dead dog's ass about how bad Neal and Jon are. The TBF fiasco and the fans that were crushed deserved better. I can't believe that a guy that could still sing would let his legacy end like that. And I don't care if he releases 27 more solo albums. The fans want him in Journey (and I don't give a shit about the handful of nitwit fans that DON'T want him in Journey).

If he was going to come back, he would have by now. Move on, bro. I could understand all of the comeback talk if Perry was doing solo stuff, but he obviously doesn't want to sing for anybody, including himself.

No, it doesn't. Pretty sad that that is the most we have heard Perry's voice in a song since 1996, isn't it?

Precisely. That's what I don't get, NIG. Why perpetuate the belief that you can sing (UJB, David Pack, GUFF) when you can't or have no desire to? It's like the guy can't be honest to himself or his fans, or both. What I don't think he gets is this: fans miss Steve Perry. The Steve Perry that was a part of Journey. Like the Van Halen reunion, The Police reunion and the Genesis reunion, fans don't care about the singers sounding like they did in the 80's. They want to sit back and take a walk down memory lane one more time and rediscover the feelings that come rushing back to a time that has passed. These other bands "get it." Other than Van Halen, I really think these other bands did it for the fans, not the money. Notes can be hit or missed, songs can be tuned down a step or not, but the fans will slip back into the 80's for an hour or two and get to relive some great times, and that's more important than some missed notes and/or rearranged songs. The tours I mentioned are undeniable proof of that, because a few of the shows have been FAR from perfect, yet the reviews have been. 8)
