Does Neal have a macho complex?

Ok, I know this is stupid, but it's something I've wondered about for years. I remember the first time I saw the "Separate Ways" video, I got the impression Neal thought he was a bad-a55. Or maybe it was just the video... But then over time, stuff keeps coming up that makes me thing this is so... little things each, but the combination of them all... song titles/themes like "Showdown", "In Self Defense", the way he dresses or poses like a street tough in group shots, the shades, and even the handle "lockandload"... It was just too much... I had to finally start a thread about it.

Plus, Deano mentioned recently that he and Vince Neil almost got into it (or did), but I never heard the details of what happened?

How tough is Neal Schon, or how tough does he think he is? :P

I also had that example... haha... but didn't want to mention it as it came from a PM from ya! :P Yes, definitely adds to the thought. So what happened exactly between him and Vince Neil, because I think you also were the one that mentioned that?

What happened? Way to much booze. I have a lot of stories of NS duking it out with other musicians, but some things need to be kept quiet. I respect his personal life and will never "out" some secrets.

Probably as tough as anyone behind a guitar, that doesn't train to fight for a living - so I'd say, he's not very tough at all in regards to fighting. But I'd say he's mentally strong, to go out there and put up with all our bullshit day in and day out, and keep making music - have to give the guy credit for that.

Though Neals been hit with beer bottles before on stage, bleeding and he kept playing, I guess that has to count for something

Excellent point.

While I'm highly skeptical that Neal Schon is a martial arts using badass or an especially gifted fighter, I'd say that he has a relatively high pain threshold and tolerance. Being hit in the head/neck/face with a beer bottle is potentially lethal and he lost a fair share of blood on that occasion; and kept on playing as if nothing had happened. That's pretty impressive.

No bashing from me...the vids on youtube really don't do him justice... can't imagine how he will sound with a great band behind him and a few English lessons and a vocal coach.. he will be well prepared for his tour with Journey.

This isn't really Neal-related, but you've reminded me of something. Last Friday, I received my green belt in Taekwondo, and my instructor is a sixth degree black belt from Korea and he told us on that very day that "there's no such thing as a fair fight" (I think that's what he said, anyways, he speaks in such ridiculous English that I initially considered getting a translator.) and went on to say that when one is in a fight, one must use every and all opportunities one has, even if that's a shot to the groin.

Actually contrary to erroneous opinions here, he's more fluent in English than some native English speakers I know.

If u watch more videos on YouTube than just Journey, u will see he has great stage presence, he can dance, jump around & he has tons of energy (oh & he's sexy as hell too, u know I had to say that). His track record of performing so many nites a week so many long sets for the last 24 yrs speaks for itself. It's not like he hasnt performed on HUGE stages before (back in the 80s), been on TV, & had major record deals. Just b/c people in the US didnt hear about him until now doesnt mean he wasnt famous in another part of the world. The world is a big place.

As a fellow loon, I really hope u check out a show. His voice eases my pain that Perry isnt performing these days.

For some reason I'm thinking of that Dave Chapelle Rick James skit with Charlie Murphy, where Rick says, "CHARLIE MURPHAAAAYYY!" and punches him in the face. Now I have this strange vision of Rick James punching Neal in the face... "NEAL SCHOOOOOOON!" PUNCH!!!! :P

How tall is Neal? I never thought about him being short until reading some posts on here. I'm 5.7 and a half, so I have no room to talk, but just wondering.

If I'd accomplished half what he has I'd be pretty confident I could do just about anything.

As for the "locknload" name reference, he's into riding motorcycles (big motorcycles) so its fair to say he's macho.

Some advice for Neal -- watch that geetar-pickin hand with all that ass kicking you have going on. It's not hard to break a hand on someone's face. Or maybe he uses brass knuckles? A set of those would go quite well with that wallet chain.

A "wifebeater" undershirt, stupid baseball hat turned sideways, and some saggin' pants would make him look tough. It might sell some albums too, as that seems to be what all artists the record companies are promoting look like. Snoop Neal :D

Well I haven't! :D I looked into Arnel when he was first announced as a potential lead and was surprised that he is as old as he is and has been around the block with record deals, etc. Having said that, it's not his fault I'm through with any more emotional investment in Journey - I just hope Arnel isn't chewed up and spit out like other Journey lead singers. He definitely has a voice, and I never go by You Tubes because the sound can be horrible in them (I've see JSS You Tubes with horrible sound).
