Most likely u wont have heard of any of the bands as he has always been in Asia. He started w/a band called Ijos in the Philippines. After winning awards as best vocalist at the World Band Explosion at Budukan, he joined a band called Amo. They were really popular, on TV & radio all the time. Arnel & some of the members split up & formed a band called New Age & went to Hong Kong. The band went thru several personnel changes & names then morphed into being called Most W@nted winning a Battle of the Bands contest. Arnel decided to return to the Philippes & form a band called The Zoo working w/old friends. He's had 2 albums, self-titled solo CD in 1999 which he wrote & was on Warner Bros. & "Zoology" w/the Zoo which is on MCA Universal.

Thanks, you answered a question I asked on another thread! :)

Letting him get somewhat comfortable fronting Journey, feeling out whatever stage presence he will hopefully develop. Better to do it in a venue like this before throwing him to the wolves of a real concert. I mean if he's going to goof up, better he does it out of the eye of joe public internet reporter. This way he can learn what not to do at a real concert.

U are so clueless about Arnel. U really should look into his background & what he did in the 80s. Nervous my ass.

Dear Moron,
I really can't stand people like you. On this board we call them "loons" but what you are is a Fan(ATIC). Someone who blindly jumps to the defense of their beloved superstar, without giving a single consideration to reasonable statements or fair minded discussion.

Don't tell me Arnel's not going to be nervous because this has absolutely nothing to do with knowing anything about Arnel or what he did in the 80's. This has to do with knowing the human condition. You know what Arnel DIDN'T do in the 80's? He didn't front a band whose audience came to love the songs he's going to sing based around a different singer. Arnel is going to be judged and compared to Steve Perry by every single person who know Journey's music. THAT is the reason he is going to be nervous because this is his first public introduction as the lead singer in an ESTABLISHED AND POPULAR BAND.

Mind you, I did point out that the band was easing Arnel into things. Does that mean he won't become comfortable after a few shows? No. I'm sure he'll slip into a groove pretty quickly. It's not his first time on stage. But don't sit there and tell me the guy's not going to be nervous fronting Journey for the first time. Bullshit.

Think before you type.

Well, that tells us who the singer is NOT going to be, then, eh?  Corporate party... wow.

Maybe now the "this is just a smoke screen to fool us all so that we're surprised when Perry comes bacK" people will finally shut the ever-loving fuck up. Or more likely they will just post a thread stating that the Remax convention is part of the smoke screen?

Don't split hairs dude. I got colorful with my description and you took it as an attack on your beloved singer. Yes he WILL likely be especially nervous fronting Journey for the first time, so I don't think it was too far off the mark. Guess what? It's called being human and it's not a slam, it's reasonable. If someone said the same thing about Perry, I'd draw the same conclusion. More importantly, I wouldn't LEAP to his defense if someone said something about him. So yes, for your very fan(ATIC) actions, you are indeed a moron.

And yes, it is an assumption that they are breaking him in but it is a reasonable conclusion to draw given the information in hand. So again, moron, chill the fuck out. Stop leaping to the defense of someone who not only doesn't know you, but doesn't need you defending him.

No, of course not, but the guy is a seasoned veteran who has obviously blown Kevin Shirley away. Think for a second about the singers Shirley has worked with. This guys is obviously the real deal. And if you think Shirley "is just saying that" I'd counter with the fact that he's worked with MUCH bigger acts and had far less praise. Ultimately, time will be the only factor in deciding how good Arnel is. Personally, I'm stoked.

Thanks, which bands as he been in?

Arnel has been a professional singer in Asia since the age of 16. The two bands I'm familiar with are AMO and The Zoo Band. For 23 years this guy has done nothing but record, tour and play gigs. You won't find a harder worker or someone that loves what they do more than this guy....no one.

That's a cultural thing you know  I can say that from personal experience though. He does have a passion for his chosen profession.

First of all, don't call me dude (unless ur from CA as they get dispensation for using the term).
Second, if ur going to state ur assumptions as factual conclusions, be prepared for someone to contradict u.
Third, I'll defend anyone I want any time I want. For all u know, I could be Arnel's sister, mother, whatever.
Finally, sticks & stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me.

Ok carry on.

Wait until they see the second date in the U.S. where they are playing for the International Association of Porta Shitter Cleaners! That should really open up the conversation.

So you're telling me that Journey decided to showcase the new singer to...A fucking private convention??? You've got to be kidding! I can't even imagine that Azoff thought this would be a great way to show the world the new guy? (hitting my head repeatedly against the keyboard, pause, repeatedly hitting my head against the keyboard again!!!) Damn I need some tylenol! This bands decisions are REALLY making my head hurt!

I know it's their band, their name, their gig, but I just don't follow the logic of these guys sometimes. FUCK!!! (Sorry, I feel better now!)

You are forgetting that these conventions are huge and the payday is well worth it. A lot of bands do this, the details just don't get posted on message boards everywhere (sorry guys!)

I know what you're saying Andrew, but you'd think that it's a big enough deal with them getting another vocalist, that they would've showcased him to a few friends, family, and most importantly to the fans! At least before they start doing corporate gigs?

I'm sure they will....We'll never know about it.....And why would we anyway.....It'll be a family and friends thing like Augeri had....

Okay, see this is where it makes sense to defend Arnel. This is indeed not only bullshit but racist. Is it a joke? Sure. Is it a racist joke? Fuck yes and it's uncalled for. Time to grow up peeps.

Say what you will about Neal and Jon's recent choices, but one thing they should be credited for is they are judging Arnel on his abilities, not his nationality or race. I think that's something to be commended not deplored.

I know. I wasn't directing that at you. We all know that between Perry, Augeri, JSS and now Arnel, everyone has their faves and has their comments and jokes about the rest. That vicious circle is never going to end. Me? I'll take a poke at anyone if it's funny enough. Don't get me wrong because as a whole, I respect them as singers/artists. They all have a talent I only WISH I possessed. Besides, everyone knows I bust on all of them equally. Well, actually, I've never taken a shot at JSS (that I recall?). I can't find anything with him that's funny enough to bust on. He's just a cool guy. 8)
