They sounded great in the little auditorium. Managed to scrounge up a guitar pick that Rick Nielsen had tossed to the crowd. After that show, it wasn't long before they were playing to packed arenas. Kind of felt like they were our best kept little secret and then all of a sudden in the blink of an eye they weren't anymore!

I remember when Styx was playing at a local high school in Illinois...I think shortly after that they became huge. I didn't see them then or ever, but just saw Tommy Shaw/Jack Blades in an intimate place this month - and that was good. :) Now, Cheap Trick is playing there next month...think I'll go.

I think I'd rather see the "Escape" line up reassembled for a concert at an intimate venue, though we know that would never happen!

...And, when they pull up in their ratty old Chevy. I'd love to hear more about those times.

So, you're about as old as me then! . Early Styx was pretty cool. I remember listening to the Styx album "Crystal Ball" when I was about 19 or so. Partying to the song "Light Up"! After the Grand Illusion they got to wimpy for me.

Seeing Three Dog Night with my Father would have been
a dream come true, original line up, small venue....I would have offered my eyes
after experiencing that.
