I think this may be the most IGNORANT statement I have every read here on MR.

Absolutely not...and until you've been on the business end of a trumped up traffic court trial...you really have zero business commenting. The fact of the matter is that the VTL in all 50 states has been radically abused by the legal system. It starts with traffic police, continues with rubber stamp decissions by judges and ends with a stunned and helpless citizen on the other end writing a check to both the lawyer that didn't do enough and a court that happily takes the 'fine' and uses it to 'fund' the payroll accounts of the courts.

Howe many times have you gotten a speeding ticket for driving 10 mph over the limit....on a road that could easily handle a rate of travel 20 mph over the stated limit? If you've gotten a speeding ticket at all, you've been in this situation. There have been significant studies conducted that show the speed limits are purposely kept lower to snare more drivers. 99% of drivers will drive a road at a safe speed, irrespective of the stated limit. Usually that safe speed is *above* the stated limit. The remaining 1% would drive the road unsafely IRRESPECTIVE of the speed limit. You don't need to be a genius to deduce that speed limits are designed to generate revenue.

Let's take traffic lights. If I told you how many towns actually reduce the time a traffic light remains yellow...and then subsequently parks a cop at the intersection....your head would spin. There's a specific time that a light has to remain yellow, to give someone entering the intersection at the time the yellow light comes on, enough time to safely exit the intersection. That time is dictated by the stated limit...although we've already discussed how much bullshit is injected into 'stated limits'....but the fact of the matter is that it is a COMMON tool among municipalities to reduce the switchover time from yellow to red, in order to snare more drivers. You will see this technique employed HEAVILY in towns where traffic intersection cameras are used.

Let's move on to drinking limits. The fact of the matter is that .08 BAC is not 'impaired'. Even so, my statement stretches from the fact that it seems QUITE CLEAR that the equipment used to snare liam and throw him in jail is in ERROR!!! This is where judgment comes into play...something police officers MUST employ, but often dont....

...and the reason is, is that they are the first step in a very corrupt process of revenue gathering....it's bad enough we're taxed through our noses...but when I see people snared by an abused traffic law system....it pisses me off.

It further pisses me off that there have been a handful of self righteous douchebags in this very thread that feel it's their duty to judge Liam without *any* careful thought....only because Policemen are always honest...right?

My husband is the sergeant of a traffic unit. So YES I think I know a little about the business. I can tell you that he is not in the business of drumming up money for our town. No way. When he pulls cars over for DUI or for speeding, he is doing it with the intention of getting people to correct their behavior. There is absolutely nothing in it for him. I know many of these traffic cops and do you honestly believe the whole time they are pulling over a car they are thinking "money money money". Bullshit! They are thinking, do I need to pull out my gun, does this situation look safe. I actually did a ride along once and it is a very eye opening experience. Maybe you should try it sometime so you can have some idea of the "business" from the cop end of things. If anything, accuse them of looking for more with their traffic stops. When they pull a car over, the actually are hoping to find something bigger. He's been a cop for 14 years now,and the number of warnings he gives far out weighs his number of tickets. Hmm, why is that if it's about revenue? Blame the states/cities/ governments for how they set the price of a ticket, don't blame the cop for doing his job.

In the state of Florida, it is a .08 limit. Do you know that you can be below a .08, and still be deemed impaired if you can't pass the road side sobriety test and still go to jail. It's not about the limit. It's about the level of impairment. Some are impaired at .04. Impairment is different for everyone. There are a lot of factors.

No one likes a cop until they need one. Calling them pigs was out of line.

And don't take your anger out on me for the people attacking Liam. He happens to be a friend and I feel very bad he is in this situation. What i had a problem with you YOUR comment on police.

I partially agree with Strange on this one.. Maybe they should start prohibition again.. So what your saying is that someone can have one beer or drink, blow a .04 and be drunk? 1st of all the legal limit set at .08 doesn't mean your drunk, its just the limit the state set..Period! Doesn't mean your drunk or even buzzed at .08.. Just means they can bust you for a DWI if you pass all the test and fail the breath test.. This is coming from someone who doesn't drink much at all.. Show me someone that was .04 and was impaired.. That is the most bullshit statement I have ever heard.. Hell lets make that .02,why not.. Cops trap people for bullshit all the time.. He's an example for you honey! They came out with this new law I have never even heard of before..Along with 20 other people in court with me that day.. When emergency vehicles have their lights on,your supposed to change lanes on the freeway.. How about when 2 cops are off to the side of the freeway, not even close to it.. The new law is if you see any law enforcement cars on the side of the road, even with their lights off and no one pulled over, they can pull you over and give you a $175 ticket.. I had a clean record,no tickets in 15 yrs and the judge even commended me..The lady before me was about 50,no tickets or accidents ever, and this judge who was very nice actually said it wouldn't go on our record and he would knock it down to $120.. I said ,how is that fair, there was nothing in the news or anything about that new law.. He said its possible for people not to have known about it..So I said, what happened to warnings? Don't we at least deserve that ? He said,I would throw it out ,but we have court costs! So there is your bs that Strange grey was talking about..Its all about the money!!!! They lowered the drinking limit to bust more people to make more money.. I wouldn't doubt sometime in the future that they would dip it to .06 ,then talk to me how it isn't about money..Everything about this god forsaken planet is about money..people steal it,kill for it.. The government legally steals it !!!

Officer pulls you over, asks you to get out of your car, you get out. Officer asks "have you been drinking tonight sir?" You reply simply with "Officer, before I say or do anything I'd like to speak to my attorney."

Do not give the officer ANY evidence AT ALL. Do NOT say "yes I just had 2 beers." Do not tell him where you have been nor where you are going. The officer will not be happy and will try to intimidate you into giving up the evidence he needs to arrest you. DO NOT GIVE YOURSELF UP AT ALL, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO, YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT, AND YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO REPRESENTATION. Again, the officer will not be happy. SUCKS TO BE HIM.

Officer asks, "sir I need you to to walk this white line, or , I need you to stand on one foot arms outstretched and try to touch your nose."

You reply, "Officer, before I say or do anything I'd like to speak to my attorney."

Do not blow into his machine, do not take a field sobriety test. Repeat after me "Officer, before I say or do anything I'd like to speak to my attorney."

You should then request to be able to leave the scene. Car parked and you walking if need be. This should all be on the officers video camera tape for your attorney to later review. This will help remove the officers "probable cause" to arrest you. You were most likely pulled over for a minor traffic infringement and the officer is trying to turn that into something bigger, in this case a DUI.

You will be arrested of course, and that will suck, but it won't suck near as bad if you give yourself up, as the officer will have no evidence. Other than HIS word in his report. He'll write a report and say "bloodshot eyes, slurred speach, aroma of alchol ect.." Without the breathalyzer though, your attorney can serve you much better.

Let your attorney take care of the rest after a good friend or family member bails you out later that night or the next morning.

So once again. "Officer before I say or do anything I will need to speak to my attorney" and "I would like to be free to leave." This should be the extent of your conversation with the officer. Resist his questions repeatedly yet nicely. Don't be a dick or anything. Give him your license and papers, registration and insurance card. Do not answer any questions about your behavior or whereabouts. Do not do anything to furthur incriminate yourself. Your attorney will thank you and you will thank yourself later on.

If the officer asks to search your vehicle or your person the same quote applies. "Officer, before I say or do anything I'd like to speak to my attorney."

Again, the officer will not be happy and again SUCKS TO BE HIM. You have the right to remain silent and you have the right to representation. DO NOT GIVE UP YOUR RIGHTS. People have fought and died for these rights, USE THEM TO PROTECT YOURSELF. Let the professional attorneys work out the rest. You will be gald you did.

That quote can serve you well in a lot of situations with police officers. Use it when you feel threatened or intimidated by police, or perhaps when you may be guilty of something.

" Officer, before I say or do anything, I'd like to speak to my attorney" and "I like to be able to leave now."

Otherwise, shut up. Clam up. PERIOD! It's nobodys business where you have been nor where you are going. Do not incriminate yourself folks, you are just making the cops job easier, thus making it harder on yourself. If the officer trys to lead you to believe he'll go easier on you if you talk to him HE IS LYING , PERIOD! Trust me please. Don't lose your rights.

Great advice, but the problem is if you do that and don't take the breath test in some states, you lose your license on the spot ! Then they will take you to jail, where you won't get it back for 90 days or a yr. Then blood test at the jail.. They have ways around our so called rights.. I have no problem with cops keeping drunks off the streets at night, but for the love of god, they need to relax a little, not everyone on the road at 1 am has been drinking.. I got pulled over twice in one week ,and I wasn't a drinker..The regular cop was cool and let me leave right away.. 2 days later a state trooper followed me out of a bar..I had water all night and I was chewing gum.. He made me do all the test and its was like 0 outside in the winter..Then the breath test..I passed of course and he was soo pissed.. I hate cops like that..He wasn't just doing his job,he was harassing me!

Yep, and you wasted his time, that's why he was pissed.

There was a guy at work telling a story about people using decoys. They'll have a stone sober guy in the bar. They all leave at the same time, and the stone sober one will stagger to his car, drop his keys and grab the officers attention while the others drive off. When the officer pulls him over and he passes the test, he asks why he was staggering and dropping his keys. He said he was dying of laughter from a joke. That's underhanded but clever.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

It is,but what would have been more clever is the idiot should have been driving his friends home!!![/quote]

C'mon now, why do you have to call the man an idiot??? Have You never made a mistake? It's human to err, and it's easy to pass judgement. Let's ease up a little bit here. It's not like the man drank a 12 pack, and went cruising around town. Who hasn't drank 2 beers, then gotten behind the wheel? I'm not saying it's right, but we all make mistakes. All I'm saying!

I was just relating a story I heard at work.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

I think this may be the most IGNORANT statement I have every read here on MR.

I wish I knew a traffic cop so we could send him to kick his buns.

and then write him a traffic citation!!!!

Go fuck yourself you self righteous piece of shit....Please refrain from posting in response to anything I say and I'll do you the courtesy of letting you brew in your own self-loathing...but continue to involve yourself with anything to do with me and I will make your internet life a living hell....

you've been warned.

No Frank...YOU are being warned. This is completely and utterly unacceptible. And for the record, my best mate is a long serving police officer and I have the greatest respect for the difficult job he has.

Hell yah Andrew!!!! :)
