I won't have you address users of this forum in this manner and should you choose to target the new singer from Journey in the manner you have - kindly do it in a more appropriate manner..

What's the problem?

Postby RockitRide » Sun Nov 25, 2007 2:06 pm

From what I have heard on my crappy PC speakers at work, Arnel has a better voice than 99.99+% of the hacks I hear on the radio. He doesn't sound like he is trying to cop anyones style or sound, and that can be tempting for a singer in a cover band. I would see this guy perform with anyone, including Journey. Not that it means anything, but I am fortunate to study opera with a world class NYC/MA voice instructer whose students have performed principal roles at the Met (not me, cause I am just a hack too...), and there are very few pop or rock voices that I can listen to. With a tad more vibrato, which he could get from a more relaxed and open throat, Arnel could move up a notch, but I am not complaining. His voice sounds consistant througout his range over which he appears to be actually "singing", from a technical perspective, rather than "yelling" which is actually what a lot of "great" pop singers do at certain points in their range. This can result from bad technique or simply from singing in the wrong range. But hey, they sell a lot of records, so who cares? I don't because the Sox are the World Champs and they just re-signed Mike Lowell. And least we forget the Eagles are in for an ass-whooping of biblical perportions tomorrow!

No. YOU made yourself lose YOUR temper. These are just words on a computer on the internet. You did not have to reply. In fact, you were not required to react in any way. Can you not control yourself? Why must some post on an internet forum "make you lose your temper"? I mean, if you are SO enraged, then get up and walk away from your desk. Was someone standing over you, threatening your life, to make you reply?

Seriously, turn off your machine...go outside...think about the REAL things important in YOUR life.

You are right,Arkansas.I should have clicked the big red X and walk away. That's what I always do when the level of negativity is rising around here.
I don't enjoy fighting and being obnoxious.Attacking people is not my style at all. What enraged me this time was to see the same idiocy displayed at nauseam.
Yes,I come here to read for entertainment, but I get really tired to stumble on the same crap over and over and over again.
I'm only human...Blowing off steam once in a while helps my blood pressure to get back to normal. :P

As for these being just words on a forum...I dunno.Andrew might not agree with that.Sometimes these words can be really harmful.
This Forum is the public outlet of a fanbase AND someone's bread and butter, too. All this cheap negativity directed at Journey is wrong and it's out here for everyone to see.
I'm not saying that the fans shouldn't express their opinion on the band's decisions or on the new lead singer...But there are much better ways to to do it than resorting to cheap nasty shots.

Now...I am going to use my wonderful self control, click that red X and focus on the real important things in my life. :) As usual.

Ladies, ladies... now now, it's happy season time. Xmas is around the corner.

Interesting flame war going on. Well the fact of the matter is, that if somebody doesn't like something for whatever reason that is, you cannot convince them otherwise, it's their decision. Non of this "oh but, it's really good, and stuff, you should watch this, then what this again". That's doesn't work. You are either good, or you are not. Simple as that, no excuses.

People have tried to convince of the most ridiculous things in the past, I just laugh. Where is Andrew anyway?.

Seriously tho, they REALLY need some new material, they need to widen the fan base and they might have a slim chance of that IF they come out with something new. As was said earlier, this type of music isn't what's selling these days and you can only put out so many reissues right? Maybe if they just changed the recipe slightly, they might just do it. Getting back to Arnel, imagine the pressures on that guy? Make no frikkin wonder he's forgetting words! I say give a guy a chance, see what happens.

Hello Everyone,

Well, this is my first post so I would like to say Nice to meet you all. Is anyone here on this board a professional musician and if so, to what degree do some of you get involved with music?

So tell me, what are the general opinions here with Arnel joining up with Journey? I've been reading some things and it's a bit overwhelming to take all of it in. To narrow it down some, do most people not like Arnel or just waiting to see how he does singing in Journey?

I read in a forum some place, not sure if it was this one, but someone mentioned that Journey is going to "show case" Arnel while doing the gigs in Chile and Vegas. Someone also mentioned that Journey will be doing these small time gigs simply to work Arnel into the mind set of performing in big places. Another person mentioned that Arnel would behave more like a squirre crapping out peach pits because he will be scared in front of a such a large crowd as the ones that Journey would be playing for, Arnel will not be accustomed to such large venues.

I think the guy who said that stuff above got it half right. I do not think Arnel is going to be scared performing in front of thousands, he's got so much experience being up in front of thousands already. I believe Arnel will actually perform even better because of the numbers in the audience and how large the place he will be performing will be. It will be like a complete rush to him to be up on such a stage with one of the great bands that he's been covering for 25 or so years. It will be a total psychological reality check for him, I believe that will push him beyond much of his limits. But I do believe that Journey is working with Arnel and doing these smaller gigs not to showcase him as much as to make sure that Arnel does not do something that will look bad or not go over well on stage during the more larger and more important concerts in the near future.

That's all I got for right now, just my opinion on it. Thanks and look forward to reading the responses.

First of all, welcome. Glad you're here.

Second of all, this board is predominately upset at Journey for letting JSS go, so the reception of Arnel is weak at best.

While you might think Arnel has all the goods, there is a huge contingency here that thinks he's not right for the job.

There is another variable that factors in here. Jeremey Hunsicker was considered for the job, and there is another contingency that wanted him to do the job. That didn't pan out however.

This board is very fragmented in it's opinion on what Journey's next course of action should be.

If you over push one over the other, you'll meet with resistance, and it may not be pleasant. So armor yourself with thick skin when discussing such matters because if you don't you might not get the response you hoped you would.

This is a Journey forum, but at this time it can be explosive because of all of the different aforementioned variables that are in place.

Have fun! :D

Hey thanks for the insite and also the greeting into this forum.

I was reading lots of posts and I can agree with a lot of stuff. One thing is difficult is when a group's singer leaves the band. It's not always like if a bassist or drummer leaves, sometimes the band can keep on moving forward. But when a singer leaves a band, that's a pretty drastic change. So Arnel will have his work cut out for him at best.

Why do anyone suppose Journey has gone with Arnel? I'm thinking two possibilities here. Perhaps the members are sick and tired of singers coming into the band and wanting everything their way and perhaps having a huge chip on their shoulders. Or another possibility is perhaps Arnel will do the job for a fraction of the pay that most other big rollers would do it for. I'm looking into the reasons why Journey has gone this route. I'd like to hear the opinions of what other's think the motivation for Journey to go with Arnel may be.

Also is it official in any way that Arnel's got the job? I've been checking out video's on the net and all I can see is Arnel in his most recent band, yet according to sources, Arnel has been singing in bands for a very long time. Does anyone know if there is video of Arnel performing in his previous bands other then the Zoo band? If so, someone please post the link so I could see it.

If I'm forking over a lot of cash to see them in concert I'd expect to see someone who can sing and MAYBE interact with the crowd?. I am not there to give him a break. As bad as I felt for Steve Augeri when I was at the Hershey show in '06, all I wanted to do was leave because he simply could not sing. If I had known that before the show, I would've saved my money.

You're probably right about that, Steve, but if not for that tour I wouldn't have discovered JSS and I wouldn't have met all you great people, so I'm not too terribly disappointed. :)

fair enough. I never looked at it that way. Money is money after all and it's hard to come by. Still, SA MIGHT have been ass kicking and if you hadn't taken the chance and spent the money, you would have never known right? It just turned out that he wasn't able to live up to the expectation. Seriously tho, I would have felt the same as you if I was in your shoes. I'm just trying to see it from a different angle.
