What is it? :?

Technically it's lizzard spit that you inject twice a day! It's used to treat insulin resistance and people lose weight like crazy on it.

I was curious and I looked it up.Seems to be pretty risky for the ones that do not have diabetes and want to use the drug only for its miraculous weight-loss effects. :?

This article is very good but it just keeps referring to diabetes, the drug is also used to treat insulin resistance...many diabetics are also insulin resistant but the drug also treats patients who are insulin resistant and not diabetic....but insulin resistance often leads to diabetes.

I dont get why people keep thinking there is some sort of "quick fix" out there...and will risk their health and their life for it! It's a lack of discipline, determination, and willpower to avoid temptations. The "secret" to weight loss is eating a balanced diet of the foods that nature provides us.....fruit, veggies, fish....chicken...cut out or down on the red meat........and most importantly ....exercise.....no matter what you do with your diet it wont help if you dont exercise....you might lose weight, but you'll also lose muscle tone.People have forgotten that the human body is designed to be kept active and moving. Everyone seems to want their cake and eat it too.....it's a "gimmie", "gimmie" society.....They dont want to work for anything...just looking for a quick fix and indulging themselves to no end. What happened to a little determination and hard work?.........JMO.

I don't think she specified she was taking it to lose weight. Byetta is used to treat type II diabetes. Although, from what I understand it is to be used as a last resort because there is only a mild decrease in blood glucose levels. I've not heard of using it to treat insulin resistance unless that is an unlabeled use.
Interesting fact: exenatide (Byetta) was originally identified from venom found in the saliva of the Gila monster lizard, which eats only four times per year and secretes exenatide to stimulate pancreatic action.

It is used for Type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance. I won't go into the specific physiology of how it works but it helps the body to utilize insulin better, by the nature of the way it works it does decrease appetite and if the patient taking it eats too much, they will most likely puke it all back up. It does facilitate weight loss but it is not the main use for byetta, however, many patients that lose weight do not need as much medication to treat their type 2 diabetes or insulin resistance therefore, they usually are able to discontinue they byetta-although this is a decision that is made by the patient and their physician, some physicians keep their patients on it.

I am mainly just asking what kind of side effects people have noticed if they are taking it. I am well aware of the use and the mode of action of byetta.

Yulog-where are you?????????

Sorry. I just know that none of the physicians I know use it. Perhaps because it is still (relatively) new. Maybe the endocrinologists use it more often.

They do. We have an OB/GYN group that has been using it alot lately too, but they are working closely with the endocrinologists too.
