That CJ was a control freak for sure. She mercilessly pounded anyone who dared say they preferred Perry over Augeri. You couldn't even have your own opinion over there. It was like a little cult.

He announced he was temporarily leaving the tour due to a throat infection which required that he rest his vocal cords.[7] The band hired Jeff Scott Soto, of Talisman, to fill in for him. In addition, Deen Castronovo, who had long been supplying background vocals and even backing up Augeri on lead, performed the lead vocals during power ballads like "Faithfully" and "Open Arms". On December 19, 2006, the band issued a statement on their official website naming Soto their new permanent lead singer. [1] Then, in an about-face, on June 12, 2007, Journey announced that Soto is no longer the lead singer, and said that they were looking to move in a new direction. [2]

The brief tenure of Jeff Scott Soto as lead singer resembled the equally brief tenure of Robert Fleischman in that position in 1977, out of which came the decision to hire Steve Perry. Fan speculation hinted that the band was seeking the same formula thirty years later.

As of November, 2007, a new lead singer had yet to be named. Longtime friend of the band and former Storm frontman, Kevin Chalfant, had been considered a strong candidate for the position. The band briefly gave serious consideration to 36-year-old Jeremey Hunsicker of Roanoke, Virginia, the frontman for the Journey tribute band Frontiers, but Hunsicker soon turned down the position.[3] Other conjectures included Hugo Valenti, the frontman for the New York-based Journey tribute band Evolution. In September, a picture surfaced of the band with little-known Filipino singer Arnel Pineda, from the former cover band Zoo (now performing original material).[4] Accompanying articles stated that Pineda had been invited to the United States to audition for the position of lead singer, and that MelodicRock.com's Andrew McNiece, who had been the first to accurately predict the departures of Steve Perry and Jeff Scott Soto, was now predicting Pineda's having been hired by the band.[5] (As reality sometimes mirrors fiction, the possible hiring of tribute-band lead vocalists is the plot of the 2001 film Rock Star starring Mark Wahlberg, coincidentally a film in which Jeff Scott Soto provided vocals for the original vocalist in the fictional band Steel Dragon.)

May I have a small history lesson here? Is the above statement true?

Read how a listing on Wik is created. (esp paragraph 3)

Well, I didn't predict the departure of Perry, but I was the first to state he was out and not too many believed me at the time until it was confirmed a week or two later. Got some cool hate mail that week :)

JSS - I knew what was happening, but didn't state publicly in advance.

Yeah, he's really well respected around the classic/melodic rock music scene.

Well, consider that the Journey camp was paying her and hubby a little chunk of change to build & operate BT. She had to remain loyal to whatever they wanted. I never agreed with some of the over-zealous mods and their heavy-handed tactics, but I always respected CJ's & Mark's economic & political position.

We should compare hate mail. Remember tapegate, the apex of it? I got death threats and boxes delivered to my house. I should have saved it. I saved some, but not all.

I missed the entire "tapegate" thing; I knew it was a big controversy once I arrived here at MR, but I'm appalled you would get death threats and boxes at your house!

All I knew was that Steve was not sounding so hot on the Generations tour, I was always up front and couldn't understand why I couldn't hear Steve over the music. Drove me nuts!

I was never on Back Talk, but when I headed over to the site for information about JSS' departure, BT was down and I sent an email. CJ was very nice and pointed me to Frank's place for info. I appreciated getting a response as I was frantic for news/gossip - and some well-deserved Journey bashing

I did too. Thank god. Long ago, I once and very briefly considered going back to look for the posts just to see what got said, etc, but the very idea is just too damn exhausting. I can barely keep up on what's currently under attack around here. Something about another lead singer?

Death threats? Wow - fucking insane. And I thought WE all took this band and it's antics too seriously.

The voice of reason here. BT was not popular with many (and certainly not here)...and it being closed has sure as hell made my life harder....but can we refrain from insulting CJ any further? Just not needed at this point in time.

You may be surprised to learn how "little" that chunk was. I don't believe Journey poured a whole lot of money into their website. I'd say that the Journey site was more a labor of love than a profit machine.
